Bluejay - Don't bother calling up the support center, it's just a waste of time with the procedures they put you through. You know you have the RROD and whatever they say won't change it. Register a repair at xbox.com, read the package requirements and print off the address coupon and away you go. You'll save yourself $6 in the process as well.

i've just had the RROD again and if they tell me that when i call them tomorrow they're gonna cop a barrage of f bombs.
my 360 days may officially be over.

If it's still within three years of purchase or the RROD occurred less than a year from your last console repair, you won't have to pay anything.

Have they upped the repair price to 200$?

Last time i had RROD they said it would be 130$ but i sweet talked them into a freebie repair aka "I'm a consumer and I'm not putting up with this shiz rant"

Was only 4 weeks out of warranty too btw, and ended up with a free 1 month of live.

Push to the highest level of authority, dont cave in.

@zarnoss -yeah they told me $200 bucks if they found any issues not related to the RROD. it was still under warranty though so i didn't need to worry. got it back in about 5 days (was pretty surprised by that) and it's working beautifully. i think they may have replaced the drive because it doesn't sound like a jet engine powering up when i switch it on anymore.

I have no money for a new one.. so hopefully i can flog it on ebay for a decent price :\

My brother-in-law's console got the RRoD yesterday, followed by mine today. This is about the 3rd time mine has had it, but the weird thing is it plays games for a while, just freezes then gets the RRoD when you turn it back on. The other 2 times I've gotten the RRoD I've waited a little while and turned it on and it's been fine, but now it seems to have killed itself. Pretty funny that they both got the RRoD at the same time though.

Anyway, 2 questions. 1) Do you need a receipt to prove it's under 3 years warrenty (Brother in law can't find his) and 2) Will mine get repared for free even though it turns on, freezes and then gets the RRoD?

First my phone now this icon_sad.gif

If you get RRoD at all they will repair it for free, mine would also turn on for a bit and then do it - and you shouldn't ever need a receipt. Microsoft knows when each unit was sold. They're spying on you.

As for you, B3NBO, it sounds like it's just your disc drive messing up like both of my 360s have done. Both of their disc drives still crash in games, but can install them fine, so that pretty much negates the issue in my opinion. icon_smile.gif

It's a bitter sweet day for Microsoft today well, sweet for Microsoft and not so sweet for early adopters. Today is the day that apart from being 3 years of success in Australia, also means the 3 year warranty on RROD on XB360 launch models expire. So anyone which a launch XB360 model no more warranty for you.

theage.com.au wrote:
The early adopters will now once again live in fear of the dreaded "red ring of death", as Microsoft's extended three year warranty to cover the rash of "general hardware failures" will no longer provide free repairs for their console.

Microsoft has confirmed to Screen Play that Australians who purchased an original Xbox 360 console on launch day would now no longer be covered by the extended warranty.

But spokesperson Mariana Cidade said customers can still call 1800 555 741 or visit www.xbox.com/support to organise a repair if their machine fails. Customers that call technical support to organise a repair will be charged $180, while those who use the web-based service will be charged $149.

Today has been a bad day icon_sad.gif.

Was playing Guitar Hero for about half an hour before my TV starting getting blue streaks down it. I reset the console to be greeted with a single flashing red light and the error message: 'E74 - PLEASE CONTACT CUSTOMER SUPPORT'.

After trying all the recommended troubleshooting tips online, I called the support line and was informed that my Xbox (six weeks out of warranty) can be repaired for the low, low price of $200. The difference between it being covered by Microsoft's three year warranty is apparently the extra two flashing lights.

I'll call up again tomorrow and see if I can debate the principle behind replacing shoddy hardware, but if I have no luck I'm definitely not going to support MS by purchasing another of their faulty consoles.

Luckily my 360 has never red ringed. I made an effort not to buy at launch when I heard all the issues and waited until they came out with the Falcon chips to buy. So far it has been a sound decision.

Craig, my sister's boyfriend who has moved in here and is a great mate, has been getting annoyed as his elite is getting very buggy as the hardware starts fucking up, it's about one and a half years old, and we use it as the main playing console for heaps of halo and cod4.

As far as I'm concerned the Falcon chip means nothing. My console was manufactured in Jan 08 with a Falcon chip, and yet it malfunctioned.

This may be a crazy conspiracy, but the word on the Internets is that since the new dashboard update, Microsoft have changed the firmware to display only one flashing light instead of three when the console breaks down. This would save them millions in possible repair fees.

Grand, I know, but this is Microsoft we're talking about here...

First was the disc unreadable problem

Second a network card zapped in thunderstorm. God damn it. I know this sounds crazy but have acutally started renting out that 360 to people at my school who want to play over holidays or longer break etc, getting $15.00 a week over the hols... not to bad.

3rd one luckily was a jasper and is running sweet.

Just to add to the mix, my 1.5 year old Elite gets RRoD now.

Can't even get to the dashboard, just RRoD's when it's turned on. Used to freeze during Resident Evil 5, and Fable 2. But now, well... kinda dead.

Strange though, that it coincides with an update that it asked me to do this weekend. Maybe related, who knows...

Has anyone been having issues on xbox live since that new update? I tried playing with a friend today and neither of us could connect to each other, either in game or private chat, yet we could join other games. When we finally connected through someone else, I couldn't hear anyone at all. No voices. No chat. Nothing. Yet he could.

WTF??!?!?!

Welcome to my world. I haven't been able to talk to my two closest mates for 13 months now. Was working for almost two years, no problems then one day it just died, and hasn't recovered since. It's most likely a router issue between the two of you, as I can talk to my friends only when one of us is directly plugged into our modems, which can never happen as other family members want to use the internet as well. Maybe give that a try and see if that works.

Such a pain as it only ever happens between close mates, it's a conspiracy I tells ya.

In more unreliable hunk of **** news, one half of my quick charge kit decided to stop working. Yay.

Well, a couple of weeks after one of my controllers and charge kits died, my 360 has had its second RROD. Sigh. And of course, it's happened right before a long weekend.

I guess I'll just grab an Arcade with my Rudd dollars (arrive soon please) and shove in the hard drive. It should just resume working as if it never switched consoles, right?

The other question I have is, are HDMI ports standard in the Arcade consoles now? It says on the official website that it's only some Arcade machines.

ah no, it won't transfer your licenses for your arcade games or anything like that, i think gamertag and therefore save games should be ok, but you probably can't play any xbla games until you do that dumb arse license transfer on the xbox site.
Don't know about the hdmi
