Yes, we do. Having played it now, I reckon the game received a lot more hate than it deserves. The only issues I've had with it are some repetitive dialogue during the campaign, and the occasional AI ally who gets into your line of fire. If nothing else, it's a very solid online FPS, and there have been plenty of people ready to play every time I've gone on.
On topic, what made me smile today happened at work (Maccas). One of the counter girls was going outside to deliver a meal to one of the drive through people who had to wait, when she had a massive stack. Freshly mopped floors = slippery. Needless to say, fast food lived up to its name. She picked herself up (she was fine) and everyone was laughing. _________________

Played Sacred 2 all today and damn level 12 atm and loving this game. It made me smile because it reminded me of diablo 2. Of course not as good but this will fill the void for a while till Diablo 3 comes out. I wish there was a hack n slash game that had a great item system like diablo 2 sighhhh. _________________

Gabe Newell, Valve and Mike Morasky
I emailed Gabe the other day out of boredom rather than doing my music assignment, basically asking if he could get me more info on the music in L4D than is already in the commentary.
A few days later I get a reply from Mike Morasky, the composer for L4D saying he is happy to help me, this made me pretty happy.
So I replied, basically saying I am not too far in the assignment yet so I don't have an awful lot of questions but asked if he could tell me a bit about the instrumentation.
He replied
| Quote: | Hey Todd,
Off the top of my head the instrumentation looks like this:
acoustic:
female soprano choir
female alto choir
male bass choir
flute
horn
trumpet
trombone
bass trombone
tuba
piano
harp
timpani
snare
taiko
misc percussion
cymbals
violin
viola
cello
contra bass
electric bass
synths:
native instruments absynth
native instruments reactor (steam pipe)
native instruments fm8
logic sculpture
I'll think about it some more, I might have left something out but that's the general collection of instruments.
The "ambient" pieces were done entirely with acoustic instruments utilizing extended techniques. Some of which were:
choir
bowed cymbals
brass
strings
piano
flute
Each "campaign" has it's own opening piece, which are all variations on a single theme. The first 8 bars are totally unique to each campaign. The ambient music for that campaign is a collection of pieces that reflect (instrumentally) the opening 8 bars of the title piece. For example: Death Toll opens with some scary brass, most of the ambient pieces used in Death Toll are created using extended techniques on brass instruments.
There's tons of conceptual theory and motifs that went into L4D, I'd be happy to share them with you a bit at a time. |
I was amazed at how long the reply was, I replied thanking him and telling him I would be happy to learn more about the conceptual theory and motifs. This assignment is going to pwn , and my teacher won't believe this, he was amazed enough as it was the other day when I handed in my draft "wow, you did some work for once." _________________

Further proof that nobody does customer service and public relations like Valve do, Platinum Games being the rapidly growing exception. _________________

I completely agree, no idea how they have the time to actually reply to people like me, let alone with good lengthy responses. Maybe this is why they take so long to make games haha
also I forgot to mention in my last post, I found the information he gave me quite interesting. _________________

It had nothing to do with your own ideas.
We were simply discussing the population of our feline friends. It was closed because no one made a reference to female genitals. Thus making the topic pointless.
