I'll be getting a gcn, but that's later new years day, as for the previous night (tonight), I'm not sure, I'll be traveling 200 miles to my fiance's grandparent's ranch, so I'm sure it will involve chores.

I'm in full agreement with you, I don't really see the point in celebrating a dismal year.
Hopefully 2004 will be better than 2003. _________________

You see, you guys are approaching it in entirely the wrong way... It's not about celebrating a new year, it's about having a reason to get smashed in public! Until you learn that you can never enjoy a NYE properly!
I started the night at melmish's sister's party, which was fine, but I really wanted to see the fireworks (again), so I went into the city with a friend. We only got to circular quay around 11:40, so there wasn't much room, but we went as far up the rocks as we could. We ended up behind suck behind the passenger terminal there, so we could see the bridge, but not much else. Nice lighting effects with the spotlights.
The real reason to go to the city, though is to enjoy the atmosphere, so we hung around till about 1. Amongst other interesting events there one guy passed out near were we sat down and these Asian teenagers were taking pictures of themselves lying next to him in various posses. It got a good laugh from everyone around (don't worry - the ambulance people came and woke him up later, so he was fine). There was also two girls in their early 20's and some guy probably in his late 30's doing some things together that's normally kept behind closed doors.
Then on the way home there was lots of fun on the trains. We got stopped for about 20 mins while some kids were playing on the tracks, and putting things on the line. There was also some guy in his 40's who was pulled out the train by the police and we heard him crying "I want my mummy" as he went past our window. Lol. As if that isn't enough, I found out from my sister today that in the carriage she was on there was on last night, there was this awful smell of burning hair just as she was getting out at the station. The train didn't leave the station and an ambulance came while she was there. She found out from someone that someone had climbed up between the carriages and was electrocuted by the power lines! I expect it'll be in the paper tomorrow.
So fun all round. Anyone here actually do anything?

I drove to the Gold Coast, walked around soaking the atmosphere. Drooled at all the half-naked chicks walking around( ), saw the fireworks and saw a man get beat up by a group of drunken idiots. Then headed home. Yay! _________________

I headed out to my best friend's girlfriend's place out at Highfields for the usual celebration - drinks and pool. After making a bit of an ass out of myself last year (took me 3 days to piece together what happened), I decided to keep the drinking to a lighter level than usual. After the whole countdown thing was over, the night slowed to a crawl - I think I sat around with my mate's girlfriend's sister for a while yabbering on and trying to solve some silly match puzzle. After the alcohol was clear from my system at about 2:30, I left to take a friend back to his place, and go home myself. We took one of the side roads off Ruthven street to avoid the inevitable police barrage that you'd get that way. Unfortunately, we went one side road too early, and ended out about 10km west of town - but we successfully avoided any police contact, though I'm sure it wouldn't have mattered if I was RBT'd.
Good night, and the end of what was arguably the most lazy year of my life.
