Couldn't help myself, I picked it up today. Wanted to see what the graphics were like.
Watched the intro video, was impressed, the character models and demo run of the game looked amazing. The face of the bad dude was amesome and I loved the space scenes, flying around etc. Started the game was much less impressed. Sure you'll probably all complain about my biased or whatever, but I thought the game really didn't hit the graphic level I was hoping for. I know I've only played one level. Plus the textures weren't that flash. It's a bad analogy to make, but it reminded me of Halo. I remember getting that game and expecting to be blown away, only to be slightly disappointed starting the game in a bland ship that didn't look that great. This game reminded me of that totally.
The controls are interesting, very sluggish. Feels a bit unresponsive. Plus I noticed the same problem Obs did with the slight loading/shutter as you play.
Is it just me or does the game really not as good in the light scnes? The game really seems to shine in the dark environments. Like in the running demo if you leave the game run. Frozen? Is there a scene like the rain level in Gears 1?
Also what's with the scrolling subtitles, I found that very jarring and the conversions very hard to follow.
Is it just me, or is the sound and brightness on the game very low?
Music = wow. Impressed. Great score so far.
Looking forward to playing it more though and seeing what it has to offer. It's got GREAT polish though and I LOVE that. Feels so slick. _________________ Shin J Leon.

^impressions are fine dude, entitled to think whatever you wish about the game
There isn't really a 'rain' level, but you're right that the game shines in darker levels. Trust me, you've not seen anything.
Also, I got my promo for playing Online. Just played 2 hours straight of it and WOW is it fun. Already unlocked Medic class and am averaging 106% accuracy with Shotgun . MP is great. _________________

played it for half hour after work, (Stace went out and got it for me, isnt she sweet) only played online, absolutely loved it took me a little while adjusting to the controls but they are all sweet now.
I'm very tempted in calling up work and saying i wont be in tonight, but i think most of the people there know it would be because of this game so i better not.
the only thing im confused on is the weapons, do you just rank up and unlock more or is it complete certain tasks to unlock weapons? i havent really looked into it, i just got home chucked it in played online. Im sure i will eventually find out through just playing but thought i may aswell just ask here. _________________

^Basically you get points for everything you do. Headshots give you 2 points, a kill one point, capturing or stopping something about 5, etc. If your team loses, you just get that amount of points you received onto your experience bar. If your team wins however, it goes into a 1.5x multiplier which gives you more experience. As an example I hit about 60 odd points in the last match I had, and we won, giving me about 105 points. _________________

I've put nearly 25 days (600 hours) into Modern Warfare online and I don't even consider myself a fan of first person shooters as a genre. It's no CoD4, online or off, but it's solid. Having said that, I'm willing to put the multiplayer through its paces and use it as a gap filler until Resident Evil 5 drops in March. _________________

I don't think the graphics hit me as much as say, Uncharted did the first time I saw, but I think it's the sort of game you'll begin to appreciate it the further you play.
In the first level, I think the explosion on the bridge blew me away (pardon the pun, or EMBRACE it!). I then thought that the section after that with the light coming through was also amazing. There's a lot of neat little touches that you probably aren't seeing at the moment.
In that warehouse bit with the light coming in from the top, you can see how good the light flare effect or whatever you call it is. Animations are also excellent.
And I don't think a game will ever look as good in the dark as in does with light. I think where K2 shines is when you are shooting someone from a short distance - the lighting is frikking awesome!
And I also hate those stupid subtitles - I actually hate subtitles in general - I always seem to be drawn to them and miss what's going on on screen.
Looking forward to some more online tonight/early hours of tomorrow.
ManiacKast - WATCH OUT! I'd also like nothing more to PWN you leon, but I somehow doubt my request would be approved.

Anyone else find that controls seem really really clumsy?
It might just be me though.
That aside, not incredibly blown away yet. _________________

I think it's most clumsy when running - it's like you can't steer your dude properly or something.
And L3 to run! ARRRGHHHH!!! _________________

To tell you the truth I wasn't that blown away to begin with. But a little later on the dynamic lighting starts to make more of a difference and I almost died a few times because I was too busy gawking at the screen.

You do realise you just tap it and don't hold it down to run, right? I just press it down and let go, and keep holding forward. _________________

A vast majority of first person games still don't do this, so it's hardly 'old gen'. Granted, I'm in the group that thinks it should always be there, because its fuck awesome to look down and see yourself, just saying it's hardly uncommon.

If you mean graphically then yes, most games look better in dark environments than light environments. Same goes for films using CGI; darker scenes often look better.
This is thanks to all the shadows and general dim tones hiding anything that might make something look 'CGI', or in the case of games, not quite as pretty as one might think. Light scenes force everything to be brightly lit, making them stand out. Easier to spot sloppy textures, crappy shadow/lighting effects, etc. _________________

Haha, yes Fronzendude, I realise that. But it's a little awkward, expecially when you are using the stick and it's at an angle.
I sort of press it down and then run...it works, but don't you find it a little 'unnatural?'
It seems like I'm the only one who doesn't like the run button...mmm.... _________________

The Killzone 2 thread over at GAF is ripe with people who equally hate the run button. Fear not; you are not alone. _________________

Is anyone else suffering the dreading Network Error 931 at the moment?
I can't for the life of me connect, and it's been doing this since 9.30pm. I got through twice (suggesting it's a server load issue) and played about 10 minutes (and was doing well!) before being unceremoniously disconnected from the network mid-game.
Really annoying, especially considering I'm working all day tomorrow! _________________

But, but, but....Hawx demo comes out tonight, so it's not like I'm sleeping ANYWAY! Killzone 2 servers should be considerate of the fact that I'm staying up late and would like to utilise their servers! _________________

picked up my preorder today, woo for getting the correct price and tshirt.
My first impressions, the intro was interesting, not sure wtf is going on but that doesnt matter, if the game looked like the intro thatd be awesome.
The gameplay now...
The controls are megasluggish for me, the graphics after playing xbox 360 games and beating halo 3 so many times, i just feel that these graphics are pretty meh compared to halo 3. Theyre good and all but not that great, im sure my opninon will change once i get into the game more but right now id rather play halo 3.
The controller, omg how i hate playing an fps with the sixaxis, after playing with a 360 controller for so long or mouse/keyboard going back to dual weird feeling jobsticks is annoying and the sixaxis... does that even work properly? it will only go certain directions for me.
The enemys are fine, but aiming is pretty annoying due to the controller and having to take alittle while to actually line people up. I havent played cod(anything) on a console and i have most of the good co-op fps's on 360.
If this game used a 360 controller instead i might feel alittle bit more at home already, but as of now having not touched the multiplayer aspect at all due to not wanting to plug in my ethernet cable and lack of wanting to play this game.
Ill give it:
9/10 for graphics
6/10 for controls
?/10 for story
?/10 for sounds because all i really hear is gunshots and that doesnt count
I think i might boot up halo 3 and give that a quick game now

^Yet you say Killzone 2's online isn't good? When Halo was one of the best online shooters, and most played.

He might prefer the more brighter colour pallet and art style in Halo 3 to Killzone 2. The latter is undeniably superior in engine and rendering, but I guess if the whole GREY GREY GREY thing isn't your preference then you might find it bland. _________________

I'm a major knife fighter in killzone 2 so running is something I do a lot and I don't have any issues with the running. THe game is incredible and I've come all the way through the game and I just got to
the bridge
. The start of that sequence with all the soldiers, explosions going off really gives a sense of scale.
Halo 3 looks absolutely shithouse when compared to killzone2. Its amazingly archaic looking for a next gen title _________________

also on this... the audio work is amazing and you say that about the audio work?
and if this is 9/10 for graphics... halo for sure isn't a 10/10. _________________
