You've probably all seen it now. In case you haven't...
Whilst nobody has any idea where it has come from, it looks damn cool. Sony themselves have said it didn't come from them. And you would think there would be more than 2 controller ports, if Sony have any common sense.
Still, it looks quite good - if they go ahead with a slightly larger shaped discman, I'll be all for it.

...That's a good point. They could keep the button layout the same and change only the analogue sticks and the moulding, and I would be happy. It really shows going from GameCube to PS2.

I also heard about Sony's denial, but the representative said it could have come from Japan, since they didnt know. Personally though, it does not look good in my eyes. And it still bears all the Sony trademarks. Same button icons since Playstation, same 2 controller port...

The design is by a french artist who made special note that the image was a fake on his website when he posted it. I'll find up a more concrete source rather than my words soon _________________

I don't think Sony will retain the same logo design from PS2 onto PS3.

Took me a LONG time to hold a PlayStation controller properly. Even now my left index finger doesn't reside on the L1 and L2 buttons - instead underneath holding the controller, too used to N64 controller.. but funny thing is that with the GC controller, my finger goes on the L button quite easily. Buggers me how that works. Maybe Sony just suck at controllers and are too busy copying ideas

I think it looks nice, but it also reminds me of a chrome waffle maker. _________________

It means that Sony love to copy ideas. *COUGH*NINTENDO*COUGH**HACK**WHEEZE*
I'm pretty sure I had read something like this before, whether it was here or not, I don't care..
But it was about Sony basically copying the controller design that Nintendo had for SNES, button layout and all (just the buttons were lettered for SNES, they were now symbols for PS1!@$!). N64 controller rolls along with rumble support - Sony say WTF why didn't we think of that, and bring out the Dual Shock. Blah blah blah.
If I was clumsy at all, I'd never finish games using that controller. Not that I have a HUGE gripe with it, I just found it all so hilarious.

While I agree with that, I think MS are biggest ripp-off artists ever! Just look at the Xbox controller - it's basically a DC/GCN/PS2 pad in one! _________________

Sony's pad is what a I like to call a 'cookie-cutter' pad. It is true that their button layout was pretty much lifted straight from the Super Nintendo's. And I doubt Sony would have ever released the Dual Shock had Nintendo not included an analogue stick on their controller.
However, this does not detract from the fact that I find the PS2 controller comfortable and easy to use for just about any type of game on the system. _________________

Back to the topic on the ps3 image - i doubt that Sony will be switching to a circle shape, it would actually make for a higher bottom line price i would think. I think the ps3 will be silver and greatly resemble a ps2, only i bet it's deeper and about the same width - and the next controllers I'd imagine will be usb, or at least they should be.

USB controllers so everyone can use them on their computers? Too practical.
...And how would a round shape raise the price of a machine?

It might.... specially when it comes to Sony. Just look at the silver PS2 - why should we pay an extra $120 for that colour? _________________

Really? The price of the silver PS2 in the UK is about £10-15 more than the standard black PS2. _________________

Sorry about that typo - i corrected it (The ps3 will resemble the ps2).
My thoughts behind why it would cost more for a round design are manufacturing costs. Round items (especially in plastics - as in the outer shell and silicon - as in the system board) are more expensive, even in mass-production they have a higher cost of production. It's cheaper to make square items.
The usb controller idea was not that it would work with your computer (I'm sure the controller would be proprietary), but more so that it also would be cheaper to produce and they would have a longer list of third party companies that could manufacturer them. I do think that the new color will be metallic - a silver or blued finished.
