For the original Eva, I can't watch it in Japanese, it has to be English, but for this remake, I've only heard the Japanese and it sounds weird.

^ Yeah to me it sounded weird as well..but when you're half asleep at 4am in the morning and can't get to sleep, such details tend to take a back seat to everything else.
After a while the jap vocals kind of grow on you. Although I do miss the English dubs for Suzahara + Shinji now that I think about it. _________________

Not always, some sites offer different streams, such as a high bandwidth one and a low bandwidth one. I've actually seen some very good quality streams. That said, I sure hope the little window on the Naruto website isn't what they'll be showing the eps in.

That's a good question. We're able to watch the little preview video, so that's something, but I really do hope they give us access to it. Crunchyroll are always an alternative I guess.. _________________

for me it depends on the show, i thought deathnote was fine with the english dub, that and i didnt have to be reading while watching,
for evangelion the english dub uses different intonation and really changed the effect of the words, and in the english dub shinji sounded even more whiny, when in the japanese one i found him to be more quiet and shy then pessimistic, thats not to say he wasnt, just that i found the english dub overdid it. I guess its also dependednt on whether you see the dub first or the sub first. _________________

I usually prefer subbed, but there are some really good dubbed ones around. Two that come to mind and have already been mentioned are FMA and Gundam Seed. Interestingly enough, at least one visual scene was also slightly modified in Gundam Seed between Japan and US versions. I didn't mind the english voice of Lacus either.

Beck had a fantastic dub. I can't even imagine watching it subbed. _________________

For me, watching a show in it's original language is the only way to go.
That even goes for Asian movies that get a big Western relase like Crouching Tiger etc.
Similarly, if the movie is French, I'll watch it in French.
Same as the aspect ratio. If it's 4:3, I'll watch it in 4:3. If it's Japanese, I'll watch it in Japanese. Can't stand it when people stretch 4:3 content in some shape or form to fill a 16:9 screen. _________________

Sub, for several reasons.
It's in the original voices for the characters.
Most of the dubbing is with American voice actors - no offence to the American people, but after awhile... I'm still not entirely used to the accent yet.
And... I'm sure there are other reasons, but I'm going to read manga now...

It's a little weird that you're more used to people talking in a foreign language then you are with an accent? _________________

Well I hate reading subtitles so it's dub for me.I don't think I could watch DBZ sub even if I liked sub as I HATE goku's annoying whinny sounding voice.

I interchange, usually whatever I see the first episode of a show done in I stick with that. I don't like changing voices because I begin to identify with those particular voices.
That said if the english is super bad, subtitles all the way, sometimes it is a little confusing though because often the Japanese is slightly different to the english translation and I get confused.
My Japanese isn't great enough to watch entire shows unsubbed unfortunately though.

i prefer sub instead of dub. why? sometimes there's wrong in dubbing process and the way of a character speaks. the mouth movement was sometimes not in tempo or mismatched pronounce of those dialogues by a character.

^ . . . you cant be serious. As if the translation people are going to go back and REANIMATE all the frames just so they the dub track fits what they're going to say.

sub's always better as it retains the original emotions that the actor is trying to convey

I feel that a huge number of dubs have mismatched voice-to-characters. Most of the times I feel that the emotional tone of the voices in dubs to be misaligned from the context of the script.
For instance in a scene where the character is supposed to convey a sense of urgency, you instead hear this dull english voice-over whose actor sounds like he/she is falling asleep.

Watch better dubs.

Beck
Gankutsuou
Cowboy Bebop
just off the top of my head I rekon the dubs are far superior to the japanese voices. _________________

It definatly depends on the Anime as to whether it is better dubbed or subbed, you will have to try both. _________________ ARR me Harties! Ye just lost the Game ARR.

I agree with Gnomey, it really comes down to the individual anime. I'll admit that in most cases subs are better imo, but I'm always willing to give the dub version a chance. FMA and DBZ are two good examples of dubs done right imo. The new dub of Soul Eater is going to be an interesting one... _________________
