I'm sorry but it still so hard to understand that people can not see that Nintendo is just a recycling center.
Rehash after rehash which allows them to keep prices a lot higher than they all should be. To new gamers or old, they should really take a step back to see if they are really getting a bargain. _________________

I'd buy Pikmin, had I not already bought it :\
Looking forward to the Mario Tennis remake though. _________________

You did read that these are being released at the budget price-point right? _________________

The only one of these 'remakes' that interests me in the slightest is Metroid Prime, simply because it's such an amazing game. 16:9 presentation and a few added features might be enough to purchase the game again, and actually play my Wii again. _________________ PSWii60

To say Nintendo is just recycling old games is unfounded. It is no worse than any other console. In fact, it is probably better.
Xbox 360 top 10 games for 08
1. GTA IV
2. GoW 2
3. Fable 2
4. Halo 3
5. Assassins Creed
6. Guitar Hero 3
7. Saints Row 2
8. Call of Duty World at war
9. Fallout 3
10. Star Wars Force Unleashed
So out of the top 10, only 2 games are not sequels.
Wii Top 10 games 08
1. Wii Fit
2. Mario Kart
3. Mario & Sonic at the olympics
4. Big Beach Sports
5. Super Smash Bros Brawl
6. Carnival Games
7. Wii Music
8. Super Mario Galaxy
9. Lego Star Wars
10. Sonic Unleashed
So out of that list, only 2 games are remakes (Kart & Brawl). 2 others feature Mario but they are new games. Sonic Unleashed could be considered a sequel at a stretch.
PS3 Top 10:
1. GTA IV
2. Call of Duty World at War
3. GT5 Prologue
4. Assassins Creed
5. MGS 4
6. Fifa 2009
7. Resistance 2
8. Call of Duty 4
9. Little Big Planet
10. Guitar Hero 3
So 2 original games and 8 sequels.
Won't even bother with PS2 since 7 out of the top 10 are Singstar.
So you can argue that Nintendo is all casual games, that is a valid point. But don't try to argue that Nintendo is all rehashes, when the ENTIRE gaming industry is almost all rehashes.

Using your logic of "remakes" then actually 4 games on your Wii list are remakes. Mario galaxy, brawl, mario kart and sonic unleashed. Also if Lego Star Wars is the Complete Saga version then it as well can be considered a remake.
So 4/5 instead of 2. _________________

I'm sold on Pikmin... depending on the control setup. I always thought that the original was the better game.
Metroid is one of the few games that actually delivered on advanced wii controls - I especially love the onscreen visor selection buttons. Playing the best game of the trilogy on Wii would be worth it. Maybe this time I can nail the final boss!

Erm, small point of contention here... sequel =/= re-make.
Small difference in some cases, perhaps, but a difference none-the-less. It's the line between playing the same game again, and playing a new game that is part of an existing IP.
Anyway, what kind of fun-hating troglodyte wouldn't want Pikmin thrust into the hands of new gamers everywhere? It's a title that deserves as much play-time as it can get. _________________

No, there will be a Pikmin 3 on Wii. This is just a remake.
And people, stop arguing over Nintendo "recycling" these old games. You forget that the GameCube didn't sell as well as Nintendo hoped, so there would be millions of people who own Wiis that never played Pikmin or the original Metroid Prime etc. _________________

I'm up for it.
Not so much Metroid Prime with MP3 controls (I happen to think the controls were perfect in MP1, and I already have all 3 MP games) but if the price is right I'll get Pikmin Remake.
I never played the originals, and it seems to be praised quite a lot on these forums, whereas when it came out all my GC owning mates were disappointed with it (but they've all proven themselves to be complete idiots)
...
These ports seem to have come about rather quickly since they were announced at (E3?) last year. Especially for an Aussie release.
Anyway, we'll see what the price is, otherwise I'll just nab the GC version next time I see it. _________________

I happened to own a cube and borrowed the Metroid title froma mate and promtply spent most if the time going "weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" with rolling around in circles. So ten you also have people like me who tried to play the titles and promptly got distracted by super awesome side thingies.
This would have be awesome timing though, birthday on the 28th of Feb and Shadow Dragon shipping 26th, please oh please keep that date since I cannot be arsed buying my own present!

It wouldn't surprise me if quite a lot of Nintendo's upcoming games use MotionPlus, so they're probably waiting for that, which leaves a hole in the lineup till April or so, and they're plugging it with this Wiimakes. I think Metroid Prime is the only one I'll buy.
Definitely interested in Fire Emblem though.

I for one did not own a gamecube but do own a wii. All but two of the games being remade are ones i tried to find in bargain bins but they were always full price. I'm definitely looking forward to this range coming out on wii.

It's true. I never owned a Gamecube myself and have spent many days playing only Gamecube titles that I've bought for my Wii, purely because I was never able to experience them before. It's great!

Yea but thats called BUSINESS. You see the same thing with other companies (e.g. mgs substance/subsistence) dvds (special edition, collectors edition etc). IMO there is no downside to this as it gives consumers a wider choice and in pikmins case, a chance for people who did not have a gamecube to enjoy the game with enhanced controls.

In Japan they got Donkey Kong first, so I was all geared up for that .
I'm still not sure about Pikmin, it looks interesting, but strange - might give it a rent first.

The Gamecube was dump [/troll] and the actual good games on the system are hard to find nowadays, so as a wii owner, this seems like a win.
Especially since I only play Brawl on it nowadays (and that rarely).

Your logic is flawed because brawl/kart don't change the game very much. Most other sequels on other platforms are by different developers are very different - could be new games. And you're only looking at this top 10 and not seeing how there is a distinction btw sequels made by other developers and the stuff made by Nintendo.
Nintendo with wii = shockingly lazy. Animal Crossing is the almost the same game it was on the DS/GC. They couldn't even be bothered doing more to graphics/engine.
LOZTP = waggle enhanced gamecube port
Pikmin = recontroller enhanced
MP1+2 (incoming) = recontroller enhanced for wii.
and they keep churning this stuff out. Definitely not hardcore gamer friendly. Where's the new games announcement at the last EEE, non-existant. _________________

Also Nintendo are providing absolutely no support/backing for new IPs and 3rd party companies. For a console that had the most hype I have ever seen they surely made it boring within weeks due to the fact we know everything thats coming gamewise. If they were going to have a revolutionary controller they could of atleast added some revolutionary games to it that are new, fresh, stellar and exciting. Just a couple would be fine. Nintendo has some awesome franchises under its belt too, its just Nintendo doesn't seem to be able to take them in the best direction anymore. The games used to feel like compelling masterpieces, now they feel like rehashed stories told in a different way. The formulas definitely need to change.
And it sucks that Nintendo are now aiming for that casual market, they would never do anything dramatical such as killing peach or transferring Link to a foreign world and need him to escape/etc. Nintendo are far too predictable and its boring. Hyrule this, Castle 8+Bowser that...over it.
I wish Valve would take control over all their franchises, especially Zelda.

I think the problem here is that both these game are nothing but ports really.
It's not like when Resident Evil came out for the Gamecube and it was a full remake (graphics, gameplay and even story). It's easy to see these as just simple money grabbers. I have no issues with these games being ported to the Wii but I think what people want to see is more original content from Nintendo right now.
Sure the Grand Theft Auto Franchise can be seen as 'overdone' but those games continue to reshape themselves with each major sequal, How much has Zelda really changed over the last decade?
Nintendo have a really innovative console right now, but as I predicted before it's release...nobody is using it.

The point you're missing here is that you've only shown the Top 10s. Nintendo's reams of shovelware and re-re-re-ports are by definition less likely to make it to the Top 10, and so be represented in that sample.
I'm a fan of Nintendo and the Wii is the only next-gen console I have a real interest in, but I can see that they're clearly not trying that hard lately. Their empire is built on 4 or 5 interesting first-party games every 3 years, with the rest being basically filler.
