Where is a good place to apply for a first job?

Well the first thing I would have said to apply for is the fast food joints being as young as you are fast food places would take you on easliy. Still dont fret theres still plenty of other places.

Add another one to suggesting Big retailers(BigW,Kmart,etc). They always want cheap labour(This past month or 2, my Kmart has hired around 12 new checkout staff...almost all yr10 students -_-). As mentioned, its probably too late to get a job now as most places have already done their hiring.

I'll tell you the best times to try and get a job(Based upon times when people are hired where i work). This is the same thing i told my friend

:
September/October: For preparation for christmas
January/February: Fill for people who quit(i believe)
June/July: Start of Financial year(Companies get money boost?)

Speaking of which I just got my 1st job today at........ KFC!

From what I hear working there sucks, and most people recommended against it, I nearly got a job at Woolworths but I completely buggered that up in the 2nd interview (I was really tired when I went it, I got really anxious the night before, 1st job interview, went in and managed to anger the lady lol)

But I ain't really complaining 1st job, need to do something, parents are just glad I'm getting out + I just want some money to buy a PS3, may take a while, but Oh well, something to do besides sitting on me ass.

Also someone said try EB or Games store, from what I was told have to be 18+ to get a job there.

1 last thing, anyone know the pay for it (I'm 16 turning 17 in a month) and have heard that 15 year old get $6.5 (For 1st 6 months), and chances are I'll get a bit more then this, etc? anyone.

KFC are notoriously bad for paying very low rates to part time/casuals, at least in my area. As a 16 year old, you can be earning a lot more than they are willing to pay you.

bcf or supercheap auto, they hire mostly people your age, im 18 and applied for 5 jobs there but got knocked back. but the i went there and all the jobs were filled by 15 year olds with no experience.

Younger people have a lower minimum wage. hence why they employ people like that, on the basis that they'll know if they're worth their wages before the wages get too high.

I've worked at Ritchies for too long now lol but it is good for meeting new friends and earning a little bit of money. Recently turned 18 so my pay rate has gone up too which is good.

I would really like to get a job at somewhere like EB or Angus n Robertsons or something. Anyone work at places like that and can give any tips of acquiring a job?

When I was working at McDonalds I was getting $7.44 an hour as a 15 year old. Horrible place to work though, would definately advise against it.

I hate the way all these food places are hiring such young kids. The burgers never turn out right, sloppy with almost no salad inside them. Simply because young kids do not care about the customer and have no drive to be working there because they are paid such low rates.

My first was kfc and I learned its not the job its the people. Some of my friends work at movies and its a sweet deal however I suggest go for the money shot of eb or jb. Hell I would like to work at eb or jb and I'm 18.

There is also the option of after school traineeships and stuff like that that gives u an upper hand in getting where u want to go. They too suck at paying well but in the long run usually work out for the better.

Mcdonalds is where I started and I got many other jobs because I worked there. Maccas are nationally recongnized for having the best training program in the country. As A now employer myself, anyone who worked at maccas and has a good repour there gets an extra tick in my book.

What about telemarketing? They are always hiring and I've been in call centres with people who would have been about your age. It's probably going to be horrible work (depending on whether you're appointment setting or actually having to sell) but good for at least 20 hours a week, more if you're good. And if you don't last at one place, you can always go to another. So even if you go through 3-4 places only lasting 2-3 weeks at each, that's relatively easy money in the bank in a short space of time...

If you small cheap easy qualifications like Responsible Serving of Alcohol (RSA), Gaming, etc they can help a hell of a lot for getting a first job in fields that need them. liquor stores also have to employ staff over 18 to serve alcohol so if you're outside high school age it can be a good bet where as other places try to get as young as possible for cheap wages.

I just got a job @ Domino's as a Delivery Boy.

Its good easy work & im working 10 hours or so a week now. For the younger guys try applying as an in-store then upgrade to a driver if your interested as you get older. Plus its not as greasy as Maccas

Big W is a great place, gives you a lot of freedom and has you thinking on your feet quite a bit. Sorry but at a fast food join I'd imagine your manager sitting on your arse all the time making sure you don't knock around for two seconds without being told off.

At the end of the day, it's all money in the bank that you wouldn't have had otherwise. Ok it means less time to do fun stuff like play games etc but you don't have to stay in it forever & what you save up can be used on some decent things/saving. It's not like you have to pay any of it out to your parents.
