But only if you’re a yank, that is. Oh, did I forget to mention that? Sorry about that, but it seems M$ don’t really care about how you feel.
First off, here’s what you (as a gold paying customer) miss out on:
Rez HD - 500 Microsoft Points
Arkadian Warriors - 500 Microsoft Points
Assault Heroes - 250 Microsoft Points
Catan - 500 Microsoft Points
Brain Challenge - 500 Microsoft Points
Boogie Bunnies - 500 Microsoft Points
Golf: Tee It Up! - 500 Microsoft Points
GH3 Metallica “Death Magnetic” Full Album - 1000 Microsoft Points
Forza – March Car Pack - 250 Microsoft Points
Crackdown – Getting Busy Bonus Pack - 500 Microsoft Points
Rock Band All That Remains Pack 01 - 290 Microsoft Points
Lips – The Remedy (Jason Mraz) - 100 Microsoft Points
Gears of War 2 Last Day Premium Theme - 180 Microsoft Points
Sonic Unleashed Premium Theme - 180 Microsoft Points
Castle Crashers Premium Theme - 180 Microsoft Points
Now I strongly suggest you head over to Major Nelson’s and leave your friendly feedback. How else are M$ gonna know just how great a job they’re doing?
http://majornelson.com/archive/2008/11/26/xbox-live-marketplace-black-friday-sale.aspx
Major Nelson:
“I gave the feedback about having this available for other regions, but due to a lot of issues it was not possible. “
That was the response given, in all its vagueness. The only “issues” here are their fat wallets and a complete disregard for anyone outside of the US. Quite frankly, I find the response patronising and extremely insulting. There was a worldwide special a month or two ago, so I’m not sure I quite understand the “issues” here. LIVE is a service which is offered outside of the US, where many pay even more for it, so why are we being neglected once again? Instead of hiding behind your little Black Friday bullsh!t, how about offering a Christmas sale? Oh yeah, right, that would mean treating people outside your homeland fairly. Sorry, don’t know what came over me.
Ok, so it’s Black Friday… BLACK FRIDAY!!! Fuck your holiday, wanker! When has any other place ever gotten exclusive specials such as these based on their own holiday? Huh?!
There is absolutely no way to justify this whatsoever. We’re paying for the exact same service, yet we’re getting far lees than the yanks do. Either lower gold prices everywhere other than in the US, or make sh!t like this stretch across the board. Honestly, all I need is one more reason and I’m gonna “Jump out” and grab me a PS3 – exclusively!

Get over yourself. This is basically an unofficial American holiday and so what did you expect? Would you expect they'd get the savings if we got an Australia Day discount? _________________

Yeah, but there's A LOT of shit the US get that we don't. Netflix for example. _________________

Our internet isn't as good as the Americans anyway. Unless we get unlimited (and its cheap), it would just make many people's internet be capped even quicker (or more frequent or whatever is applicable). _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

I found this ironic:
"how about offering a Christmas sale? Oh yeah, right, that would mean treating people outside your homeland fairly"
Considering a lot of people outside of his homeland don't celebrate Christmas. Like Jews, Muslims, Atheists, Buddhists, Hindus etc (well officially they don't anyway)

Im sure if there was a Christmas sale on the Marketplace Jews, Muslims, Atheists, Buddhists and Hindus would all take advantage of the savings. _________________

... Re-read (or read) my post.
My anger stems from that being used as an excuse to limit this sale to the US. Again, when have we received such treatment? The only specific holiday deal I remember was a GH3 Saint Patrick’s Day pack, and that was given to everyone.
Again, the point is that they could have changed the occasion on which a special was held, spreading the love to the rest of the world. But whatever, your outlook speaks volumes, and quite frankly I don’t have the time or patience to go back and forth with you.
Oh, and from what I hear Apple – an American company – had Black Friday specials outside of the US. Go figure.

Blink, for people who want a few of those deals it can mean an extra $15-$20 in your pocket. Not just that, but it’s the principle of the thing – why should we have to pay more? The marketplace is an even playing field – M$ points have already gone through a conversion process for this specific reason, why change that?

How’s New Year sound? Is New Year good for you? Sweet, we’ll go with that.

Tomorow in the news. The sky is blue and bears **** in the woods. |
I’m sorry, does this discussion bore you? There’s a simple solution...
But perhaps you’re right. Maybe we need more “Greatest Games” lists or maybe a 7th Gears topic? It’s not the least bit surprising you find tomorrow’s news to be a revelation.
Ok, stepping back for a second. The reason I made this topic was to get it circulating. Nothing is likely to change, but there’s even less chance if no one complains. Anyone resigned to the fact that we pay more for sh!t doesn’t need to bother posting. Many who have lives outside of internet forums are also likely to find this to be news, and I can guarantee you there are way more lurkers than there are contributors, those without the time to make posts or commit to an account.
Finally, this isn’t the first time US gamers have received something the rest of us have been denied. I’m all for region specific sales, just as long as all regions actually get them. Charging everyone the same fee (the deal is also only limited to gold users) but only offering perks to a specific region is poor form.
Whatever the case, for those of you who don’t agree or don’t care, good luck to ya.

Sounds terrible, what about the poor Chinese!
I'm joking. I find it really frustrating too, but we are quite lucky to even be offered live, some countries don't even have servers in their country, so they have to use other countries ones. I think it was in Greece that basically every xbox user threatened to not re-knew their subscription if they weren't given local servers. _________________

I'm an atheist and I celebrate Christmas, I don't believe in the premise of it but I'll still sing the carols and drink the egg nog (Even though it tastes like shit).
I totally agree though, if America should have a sale why not the rest of the world? Why are we screwed over when it comes to themes and picture packs and limited to what we can and cannot have and America isn't?
The reason, we make up for 2% of the gaming market, we can whinge and bitch about this shit all we want, the bastards at Redmond are still enjoying their six digit salaries and can sleep at night knowing that they're making enough off their own market.

It is frustrating to see those deals, god knows what it'd take to change.I geuss we're not the only country that misses out, the U.K and those kinda regions probably miss too.
