Fable II , Gow 2 , Fallout 3 ?

Personally I say Fable 2. Really love it. I haven't played the others though. I do somewhat like the theme of Fallout 3 but for me I'm just getting sick of games being heavily based on where you're shooting a lot of the time.

This thread was different, cause you pretty much decided what games you wanted, so it was abit pointless asking others. I mean stating you wanted a good online shooter and that you only put Gears 2 in this thread.....Come on, you pretty much answered your own question.

I would have to say Fallout 3 is the best in every possible way...except graphics maybe. It is just a superb game that you can get lost in for hours and hours, with so much to do and find and, unlike Fable 2 it has subtle, mature humour to give the dark setting a lighter feel.

i think it would be a shame to miss out on any of these games all are AAA. Fallout 3 is probly best bang for buck ive finished gears on hardcore and with 3 mates finished hoards on hardcore. ive finished fable 2 and spent alot of time screwing around. the hours ive put into fallout are more then the other 2 combined.

Fallout 3 doesn't really look like my type of game when it comes to the mechanics so i've given it a miss. If the game didn't have mass effect type mechanics i'd be all over it but infortunately i'm not into turn-based/rpg type gameplay unless it's fully realtime like Fable which brings me to....

Fable 2. Seriously is this deja vu or what? I knew it was a bad sign when all those items started dropping off the collector's edition, lucky the bloody thing came out same price as the standard edition so it was bonuses for first come first served so not too much damage done but again Moleneux has talked it up....don't get me wrong I love Moleneux, he comes off as real genuine and nice, he's probably a bit like me actually, just has too much passion and involvement in what he's talking about. Anyways Fable 2 is Fable 1 through and through, the mechanics, the way the world is broken up, the quests, the voice acting, the look, the feel, the broken promises! It's all there!

The game is also gorgeous, I saw ads for it and went 'Ewwww' that looks rubbish but I don't think a game has surprised me so much with it's visuals, as soon as I gained control of the protagonist I looked at the lush vegetation, the vibrant colours and was hooked, but I can't remember the last time there was so much missed potential....actually I can...it was back on the original Xbox, a game called FABLE MOFO!! Seriously how dumb can you be?! Learn nothing, absolutely nothing from your last project! This game has so many gorgeous environments and details but everything is so hollow. Like you venture to some deep dark swamp land unlike you've ever seen in this or any other game and what do you find? Some level 2 java potion or 400 gold like you've found 100's of times already! Seriously everything you do in this game just feels like a chore because it's so repetitive and dull. You will see all there is to see and do in the game basically about 2-3 hours into it, the rest of it is all asthetic and even then as the game goes on it becomes more repetition and backtracking because about 1/2 way through the game you've gone to all the locations you will see so the rest of the missions are all done in stages you've pretty much already seen.

The collector's edition content is a joke, the masterchief sword is like one of the worst weapons in the game and the captain's cutlass mission was again just another one out of many the only difference is the sword looks just a little bit unique (not too much though), even then when I found it it was useless cuz my sword and many others are much better.

Basically there is no emotional involvement (infact there is less than most games because it's all so repetitive and annoying). The characters stand around and do and say the same stupid crap every couple of seconds! It's seriously that annoying. Anyways despite all it's shortcoming I played through this game because of it's charm and it really is quite solid. The last rpg I played/bought was Oblivion so I figured another one with action oriented combat could go down ok and I don't have any regrets but seriously if I was Moleneux I would seriously make my next project very tight lipped cuz this case of deja vu imo is the 3rd worst gaming blunder I know of Diakatana being number one, Denis Dyack/Too Human being number 2 and now Moleneux. Duke Nukem Forever is in a league of it's own so just don't go there. Some devs just need to shut the hell up.

Gears of War 2....geez what can I say?! Bigger, better, more badass or something along those lines? It sure is, more of the same but that's oh so good! I love the grunt gun now...BANG, BANG, BANG, each of my shots resonates through your thick locust skull mofo!!! I have to admit some of the big set pieces were a little confusing cuz you don't know when you're supposed to be interacting/playing the game sometimes. Like all this stuff is going on and you can shoot and stuff but you're just supposed to watch for a few seconds before you're thrown in and well as soon as I see or hear trouble it's on so a couple of these moments I might've been going nuts but wasn't actually doing a damn thing. Oops. Anyways can't fault the game for that. Seriously it's just more Gears of War and the graphics are the best i'd ever seen (C.O.G Facility....check it!) that was untill I played Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts. Who knows I think Gears of War 2 might be technically superior but I just prefer the look of Banjo.

The new enemies are also heaps awesome, I love all the new big dudes, the grinder, mauler etc. I thought the game needed more big guys that just take heaps of punishment (love those sorts of enemies in games....basically just like bosses) but these guys aren't all meat axe, they all have their strenghts and weaknesses and when the game throws a variety of enemies at you that's where you see the balance and depth this game provides in it's combat. It just has it's own feel. Like when I played Halo 1 I could instantly feel it was a classic cuz it just felt right and although I got this feeling with Gears of War 1, I don't think I realised it till Gears 2, it's all very cohesive and is exactly what it set out to be. Imo games like that are 100% cuz they are catering to the fans and making big bucks in the process (kinda like how I would do it if I had the opp).

I have to mention that I haven't played some proper multiplayer since Gears of War 1, I did play a couple of days of Call of Duty 4 multiplayer I really don't know why....i'm not a fan of war games (i'd rather fantasize...mmm) but I have to say that game was so solid even I liked it. Anyways Gears of War 2 Zarnoss and I played heaps of Horde. It was real difficult at first cuz we finished the game on Hardcore so when we started The Horde we thought 'hardcore' but got to level 10 or 11 and got stuck, so we tried inviting a couple of peepz to play but realised that arranging times to play with more people is gonna get even harder to collaborate so we put it on normal and got heaps far. The only reason we stopped playing is cuz we ran out of gold account and didn't think it was wise to buy more time especially with all these games coming out.

Anyways if you have any doubts get Gears of War 2, no doubt if you're the least bit interested in multiplayer or have some friends to play some co-op campaign or horde in you'll have a blast and the game is infinitely replayable because of the solid mechanics. If you're into RPG's I think you'd be better off with Fallout 3 cuz I hear that's the RPG to beat in this day and age. It's a perfect example of the way the industry is headed and just a great game. Again mechanics aren't for me but I can appreciate games as art and Fallout 3 is up there.

Fable 2....it's all bloody hype...once again. Enjoyed my early hours with it but one of the shortest most dissapointing games i've played recently. Honestly main campaign could be completed in like 5-6 hours and trust me when I say you've seen pretty much everything in the game. If only there was more variety in all the items, weapons, augments it would've been so much more satisfying but again money in this game or earning it just (which is HUGE aspect) seems so pointless when spending the stuff is so boring. Man I just can't believe they spent all this time on the environments, seriously if you like adventuring this game really gives you the look and feel, the environments are perfect for it. Anyways i'm repeating myself, get Fable 2 if you got a little extra cash.

But I agree, Fable 2 is a fantastic setting, beautifully crafted but everything about the game reeks of bad gameplay design. It's like a Zelda/Oblivion/Sims cross without the strong bits of any of them. However iIt's rather addictive though and I am enjoying it.

Gears 2 is probably knocked off Dead Space as my GoYT. I thought Gears 2 was going to be rubbish and much of the same, but the campaign is seriously one of the best I have ever played. It's just solid in everyway and the upped music/story really caps it all off.

Unfortunately Dead SPace will most likely win the GOTY because of the status quo.

It will most likely go to Fallout 3 despite its problems or some other schumky game like GTA4.

personally: MGS4.
FO3 was my most anticipated game of the year (and i personally love it), but MGS4 is definitely my GOTY.
i doubt it'll win many polls though.

Honestly for me Wrath of the Lich King is an easy choice for GOTY.
Not sure if it counts though cause of it being an expansion.

Otherwise it would probbably be Banjo at the moment wich honestly suprised the shit out of me by being completly fucking awesome.

Hoping PoP doesn't end up being a dissapointment cause it could easily make GoTY for me.
