Something interesting from the above letter.
| The Letter (Page 3) wrote: | Any Australian can obtain encrypted Virtual Private Network (VPN) access from the United States for less than $5 per month. This is the same technology that human rights activists use in China, Saudi Arabia and Iran to hide their activities from the Government, and provides an effective, guaranteed bypass of any effort by any National Government to filter Internet content.
There is no requirement for complicated software to use these services, VPN clients are installed by default on all common Operating System platforms. Australians who wish to hide themselves from Government Internet censorship efforts are only a few clicks away from total anonymity. |

There was a good section about this very topic in Triple M last night, and he talked the the Chief Regulatory Officer for iiNet.
iiNet has been apparently one of the ONLY ISP's to put in an expression of interest for the trial, and with the stated aim of proving to the government just how ridiculously shit their idea is. _________________

^ yeah, there was a thread on whirlpool where the MD of iinet said he wants to get in and prove it's complete crap rather than let them get away with doing it with some small regional ISP's and claim it was a resounding success. _________________

Stephen Conroy says "The pilot will test filtering specifically against the ACMA blacklist of internet prohibited content, which is mostly child pornography, as well as filtering of other unwanted content,"
At whose discretion will unwanted be decided by? What constitutes "unwanted material"? Who will decide what is unwanted content?
Can't Conroy see this is ridiculous?

Heh I was hoping iiNet would do the trial. If it is optional for their customers, I'm definitely singing up, going to test it out and see how long it'll take me to get access to porn.
Of course I could instantly say "5 minutes" right now since it doesn't filter bittorrent traffic.. but that would be too easy wouldn't it? _________________

I have lived in a Third World nation, believe me guys Australia is nowhere near becoming a China or any other Communist nation.
This is a great nation. A great place to live in with great folks. The average Aussie bloke is a nice stand up guy.
So as a person who has lived in a Third World nation, I can tell you that Aussie is nowhere near becoming a Third World nation even if this Bill is made Law.
So you cant compare Aussie to China.

Umm Third World = Developing Nation or Under Developed
First World = Developed
Third World = Latin America, Africa, Oceania, and Asia,
First World = USA, Canada, Aussie, NZ, Most of Europe, Middle East nations like UAE, Japan , Hong Kong.
So China as a developing nation is called a Third World nation as well.

I was under the impression that developing was very different from third world.
You have third world countries which suffer from starvation and huge political turmoil - I'm talking mass slaughtering of citizens, civil war, etc..
Developing countries have moved pass this, and are on their way to becoming first world. There are still human rights violations, the poor may still be suffering a lot, but they've made a lot of improvements.
And then you have the developed/first world nations. Should be obvious what they consist of. Coca-cola, porn, capitalism, alcohol, woo hoo! _________________

And don't forget that it was white people who made the idea of Communism.
I wonder what would have happened had China stayed a monarchy.
It is inevitable that soon Australians will speak an Asian language. This is because of Australia's geographical isolation from the western world. This will probably happen in a generation or two.
But the very fact that white people kicked the aborigines out of their land shows that we have no right to demand which race gets to come in over another. After all, it would just be hypocritical of us. _________________

I could say something unbelievably racist about that aboriginal comment, but I shall refrain because I'd just be modded anyway
As for asian language thing, I think that's highly amusing. Nobody's going to make me speak an asian language. Heck, I tried in high school and failed miserably _________________

If you actually bothered following the news for the past few years, you would have realised that Australia's economy is heavily dependent on Chinese exports.
As for learning a second language - it's called getting an education, son.

Hate to be picking on grammar, but couldn't resist: perhaps he should learn the first language before picking up a second?
Haha, I jest.
Honestly though, I found language class very difficult. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate the opportunity to at least attempt learning a second language. And as Jezza said, which language would be better to learn than that of one of our biggest trading partners, who will probably be the next dominant superpower in our world?
If China's current status was switched with for example Russia, I would think it a good idea for students and the general public to learn Russian! The United States is "in charge" right now, and before that it was England. Both of those countries speak English (or American English), so there was no need to learn a different language. _________________

The one thing that I am still wondering, what is unwanted content? I might not want a picture of a ford to show up in google, but someone might not want a picture of a holden. What the heck is it!

^^Hopefully this will Kevin Rudd and his gangsters like Conroy being thrown out of office in the next election and Turnbull comes in.
Because the Rudd Administration so far has been a farce.
Rudd can't even keep a secret for goodness sake.
