As for singing...I still haven't mastered it yet. I am fine on beginner, but I can not beat ANY songs on easy unless I cheat and just make a humming cat noise the entire time (get like 85% that way) which is no fun for anyone! Any tips?

Ignore the words and concentrate on trying to get the note right. I'm not much of singer, but when I'm stuck that's what I tend to do. Singing is just humming with your mouth open icon_wink.gif

Quick update for those having problems with the sensitivity of the GH:WT drums:

The support website has been updated, people from countries other than the US (including Australia) can now order the midi-USB cable to calibrate their drum kits.

The website again is: http://www.redoctanegames.com/Warranty/Index.html

I will be ordering mine as soon as I get home (need the serial number of the drum kit), adjusting the drums will be a nice feature to have.

Wow I am an idiot. I thought there wasn't many songs on the Australian store, but you have to go into the music store to find all the songs. Also, you can I completely delete a song? It says I have already purchased "Still Alive", when I tried to download it off the US store. Can I make it so it says it isn't purchased?

Okay, I'm going to just come out and say it. RB as a game is better than GHWT in every single way I can think of. Wow. I've just had a really good session of GHWT with 2 friends and we've done a good number of sets over the last bunch of hours and all of us were so disappointed! I know it's because we've had RB for the last 6 months but... that's the whole point isn't it? The GH team have had time to see, play, and understand RB. What it's faults and strengths were and yet they seem to have completely ignored it's existance and turned GH3 into a full band game.

The note charts are just as bad as GH3, the song choices are over-long and filled with guitarwank and they have put together an even worse interface than GH3! That is, the game interface - the highway/graphics, etc. They seem to be focusing too much on the wrong aspects of the series! "Lets add more characters, more songs!" rather than working on the core gameplay and what makes these multi-instrument games strong. Feeling like you are playing and just having a massive laugh and yell with your friends. GHWT fails in this over and over again.

Having made my stance very clear, there are a few good points - most importantly the open note on the bass! I've been waiting for that feature since I first played GH and it's a very welcome addition. Would love to see it on the guitar lines as well.... err, that's all I can think of for now but it's a start!

I will be giving this a thorough workout as I haven't played it alone yet or had a crack at every song on offer. I may find it grows on me as the songs start to give me some form of challenge too. So far the 20-30 songs we've played (on expert, and only expert!) have been nothing but a joke as far as difficulty is concerned but I'm sure it will randomly spike up at some point!

I played GHWT at the MyWii booth, and the first few things I saw was the Character Selection- Horrible. Couldn't figure out what to do until one of the guys told me.

Then, I saw the song selection screen.

Jesus christ that was cramped as hell. It was really bad to look at for one, and there wasn't any real 'paragraphs' if you would of difficulty, it's just Alphabetical Order or Artist Order. Either way, it's still crap.

The slider was turned off, but I found that the new addition of the slide sections really should just have the button mechanics put into the solos standalone, similar to Rock Band.

I mean, the slider just puts everybody off, but using the buttons on the sections makes life easier- I tapped Beat It on a sightread with two hands because I knew I wouldn't have to re-strum to hit notes again.

I think that mechanic of not having to re-strum is the best addition in the series, but that's not really saying much.

Oh yeah, Star Power button is f**king awkward to hit if you use the Les Paul's select. I was hitting the faceplate 99.99% of the time and when I did hit the button, missed several notes. Awkward.

tl;dr: Everything really.

What s**ts me is that marketplace sorts by Alphabetical order, not by band.

That and the Rush Album isn't on the In-Game Marketplace, but is on the dashboard. icon_confused.gif

From memory, they had that problem with the US store too - because the Rush album was released in a weird way, it didn't go in-game. I just love this quote:

Quote:
Accompanying the release of the game is the full DLC track list the rest of the world has had to accumulate week-by-week.

Once I download a song in Rock Band, do I have to unlock it in career to play it in other modes, or is it automatically where it should be?

Any downloaded tracks are ready for play immediately - they appear in Tour mode as a seperate list of songs you can choose from, and in quickplay they simply appear in the track list.

If you're running the PS3 version of Rockband you'll have to install each track from in the XMB after downloading - Rock Band 2 installs automatically for you once the download finished, which is a very welcome change.

It is an American song, and I have screwed it up sorta. If you have purchased a song, it doesn't let me redownload it through the Rock Band store, and I downloaded the Portal song, "Still Alive". When I delete the song it still says purchased, is there any way I can unpurchase it? Would deleting my US account do it?

I'm not sure I understand what has happened - regardless though if you log in to you US account and the go to the Music Store from the game menu, you should then be able to 're-download' the song. Should just be a matter of highlighting it, hitting X/A, and then selecting 'Re-download' (or similar).

Edit: Ah. Right. Were you trying to access the Music Store while logged in to your AUS account? Whenever I tried doing that, all the songs would be listed as 'puschased' and you wouldn't be able to interact with them. If you are signed in to your US account it shouldn't be a problem?

Ok, after my sister stops watching her movie, I will go into Rock band in my US account. Then if I download it, can I use it on my AU account? Also, it came with a lot of download-able songs, like most of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers songs, and it doesn't let me re-download them either.

Karai, the problem Sambo has is that he purchased the song through his US account, but bought the Australian version of the game.

The Australian version is rejecting the DLC as being for a different region, so he needs to buy it again off the local store. The problem is that the system has marked his account as already having the song (this bit is the weird bit, because I would have thought deleting it, and then going into the marketplace as the Aussie account should have worked).

Ironically - once the content is actually installed it can be used cross-region in terms of accounts (i.e. I buy all my DLC through the US store because I have the US version of the game, but once installed, I can quite happily play the DLC through my Aussie account).

I have finally succumb to the inevitable.

I went to TARGET on the weekend and picked up RB at the awesome 219 pricetag. I loathe indoor shopping malls, they feel so fake. Fake air, fake light... it actually helps me to pretend that I'm on a space station... It explains the freaks away nicely. Look a bunch of female cracked heel squatoids in orthopedic spaceshoes! And those things there eating Gak at Wendy's: Klingon. And there's a whole bunch of Nymphiods from planet teen-pregnancy.

An-e-way. i usually make my escape without having to talk to anyone, but as I waited at the counter I was questioned by a man (Ex Captain Christopher Pike) in his (thought controlled) wheelchair who was eying off my plastic instruments. I found myself in the odd position of being asked my opinion on VIDEOGAMES! Tempering myself, I said I liked playing music games and that they were lots of fun. I explained the difference between RB and GH. The GH instruments were arguably better, told them that Harmonix INVENTED GH and I was faithful to them. I said to look at the songs you like before choosing. In my periphery I saw some older Vulcans nodding at my logic. For me it was interesting because the argument is one that has been torturing me for the last few weeks, and that people were INTERESTED instead of looking to escape!

The game, of course is super-fun. Though I knew only a few songs. I was lucky enough to have company for some outrageous karaoke and to watch me chase my drums across the carpet while still playing!

I was disappointed that some of those that I wanted in the RB store said "previously downloaded" (including STILL ALIVE and some Chilli Pepper stuff... ) Whats going on here?

I was glad to buy RB as I only will really play it with friends. I realised that it all WORKS and that while RB 2 instruments would have been nice what I have is functional and packs away easier without cymbals!x

The only thing missing was a bass guitar. I bought the GH with guitar pak to compare technology. i guess I have both games now, and a complete band for $360.

Sorted.

Ah, that is odd indeed. You'd think that it would track the songs separately between accounts...

But yeah, once it has downloaded you can install it from any acc. Hell, I've logged out of my US account and into my AUS one while downloading tracks without issue. I guess it only checks against the disc itself when loading the content in.

döppelgangbang, I am pretty sure you have to unlock the downloadable content that came with the game, in the downloadable content in the career mode. So Still Alive was already downloaded for you? So maybe I have it, I just have to unlock it...

well... NO I never downloaded it. It just SAID it was and I couldn't get it.

The songs I bought got stuck while DLding in the background and it was frustrating to have to figure out how to DLd them through the XMB.

When I looked in the PSN store (as opposed to the RBstore) for songs - STILL ALIVE wasn't listed. icon_sad.gif

we got songs in the pal version that were not in the other versions, like the other 9 songs that come up in the downloaded songs section, so maybe it is packaged in the game somewhere (i actually had to download it on 360 however)

Question:

I own the entire band pack for World tour. Will I be able to play the original Rock Band with my GH peripherals, or are they only compatible with rock band 2?

Ok, with American DLC, anything purchased on the American store will not show up as purchased when you're signed in on the Australian store.

The US songs will play on an AU account, as DLC is region free- The store's purchase data, however, is not.

All DLC songs are immediately playable, if you're in Solo Tour, they're at the very bottom of the song list in their own set. Here you'll also find the other 9 songs on Disk which are European Exclusives.

The Guitar Hero: World Tour peripherals will work on Rock Band 1 + 2.

Heh, my sister is awesome at the singing on Expert in World Tour, provided she knows the words. She's always in the right pitch and can hold a note for ages. That said though she actually found When I'm Gone to be one of the more difficult songs to sing, it jumps around a bit and has some REALLY long notes, which he screams, though she didn't. That and songs like The Joker where she has a more drawn out singing style rather than the more staccato approach in this type of song. And it would appear that it is as much about timing as it is about pitch, so just holding a hum across notes and getting them right won't give you a perfect, you need to hold the hum for the allotted period and then stop, start again for the next period.

Pretty awesome fun though.
