I think I'll wait until this is officially launched, but I don't currently have XBOX Live, can you just download this from a computer then put it on your 360 using a USB stick?
Thanks

Dunno yet, possibly, probably. Previous updates are available for DL from the net so I don't see why this on wouldn't be. _________________

Just a heads up to all those who signed up to the official preview program but didn't get accepted: MS is offering up more places at random to those who did sign up originally, so check your inboxes tomorrow (sunday) night! _________________

mmm, avatars...
Please note that I've been on an internal beta for MS employees for the past "unspecified" amount of time. Which is why my gamertag signature had a blank pic for a few weeks and it's only become active since the early access guys...
It's funny, because the non-MS people who have been getting early access seem to be able to talk about the NXE much more openly than we can.
All I can say is that at first I wasn't sure because there were some things I couldn't find, but now that I'm used to it, I like it better. _________________ GAMEparents

Halo 3 is a big surprise.
personally speaking anyway, maybe there's some reason for it that other people know about, i don't know. _________________

I've been using the *cough*leaked*cough* code for a little while(I've got Fallout and don't need GoW2, so no online until the 19th means nothing to me right now) and while I've only noticed a couple of seconds of loading difference, the noise factor changes everything for me.
I sit quite close to my Xbox and always had to have it up very loud(no night time gaming!) to drown out the disc drive.
It's a brand new HDMI-readynewproccessywhateverblahblah Xbox too, so I was quite shocked at how loud it was. After install it's now quiter then when it's sitting at the dashboard, which is just silly.
For the record I've tried Fable 2, Far Cry 2 and Fallout 3(F-month for the win). _________________

Probably because you have the older model fans and disc drive, that's what makes the noise.
I'll wait until the new dashboard is officially released before downloading it, however that's also the day I'm leaving the country, so I won't have much time to play around with it. Maybe that's a good thing, as whatever bugs and such it has will be patched by the time I come back. It is also possibly the only holiday where I will save money, as I skip buying all the November releases and will hopefully get some of them for Christmas. _________________

^^ Not so. I have a 2006 Samsung (known as the loud drive) and a 2008 BenQ (known as the quiet drive) and they are only marginally different. The BenQ 360 is still by far louder than any other console.
For anyone wondering about being banned or something for having the leaked version of NXE - one of my friends who I convinced to install it was invited in the second round offers and his xbox allowed him online to download the official version with no issues _________________

Yeah I'm pretty sure I've got the BenQ and it's loud as hell.
My old Xboxs(yep this is my third, love those red rings!) where only a little bit louder then my new one. Plus my mate just bought an Elite(last week) and it's a loud mofo aswell(if anything, it's louder than my Arcade+HDD, which is just stupid). _________________

The update's available for you 3rd wavers
It redownloaded the update, so I guess it's a newer version than the leaked one. It then downloaded the extra avatar part. _________________

It didnt connect to Live the first time after updating, but worked fine after I turned it off and on again.
Just created my crappy avatar woohoo (as you can see below)
Still need to play a divx file to download the update for that as well. _________________ XBL/PSN/Steam: BenC82

Dayumn, I just downloaded the update.. made my guy..
Freaking awesome stuff. The customisation is pretty deep and the art style has kinda grown on me. We just need more games to support avatars
The new dash interface is a little confusing, not as intuitive I think, but a lot flashier. I'm not going to bother with the visual friends list (it's horrible) but the new in-game dash means nothing is lost (you can do EVERYTHING from the in-game dash).
Yeah, either way I'm quite impressed. _________________

The new dash is a bit more confusing but you can use the guide button to bring up a more basic menu where you can do pretty much anything. _________________

Agreed it sucks....but the pop-up dash one is sweet. Shows you more "presence" info without having to open a gamercard, which is cool. _________________ XBL/PSN/Steam: BenC82

Fable 2 - The brief pause/lag when accessing inventory menus is gone or noticeably reduced. Loading Home Village DVD 32.5 seconds, HDD 24.5 seconds
Niiiiice. Now to find the room on my 20GB HDD... or find a larger drive on the cheap. _________________
