If you don't remember having that great night of fun, did it really happen? I agree with GTPod in general, but as I mentioned I hang around with nerdy types anyway, being the only guy getting drunk at a party is possibly worse than being the only guy -not- getting drunk. _________________ Playing: 30sec Hero, Scribblenauts, Dungeon Crawl

I don't do drugs as I've never had a reason to try them, I'd rather be in control to be honest.
I don't smoke as the idea repulses me, I hate second hand smoke so much. If it were up to me I'd ban smoking anywhere in public. Gah!
I rarely drink, I've never found anything I like the taste of so I just don't bother with it. But I don't drink coffee nor Red Bull/V etc neither as I dislike their taste. I have terrible taste buds...
The above three paragraphs probably explain why I'm so dull and boring. _________________

You don't need drugs to have an exciting life, you can live on a natural high. Of course by Natural high I mean that unusual plant that grows in the basement.
My excuse is it comes from the earth. The cop agreed and took it off my hands, he even hid it under his car seat for me, nice guy he was.

I know the amount of money I save compared to my friends is ridiculous. It's seriously thousands of dollars a year.
But I suppose they're buying the experience rather than the alcohol/drugs, and it might be worth it as far as I know. _________________

I'd just like to point out that no-one drinks alcohol because it tastes good. That's why there isn't a booming non-alcoholic beer trade.
The reason people drink is because of the effects it has.

I'm well aware that some people do it for that reason and I've always thought it pathetic. _________________

Non-alcoholic beer doesn't taste anything like alcoholic beer, hence the poor sales. I drink beer because I like the taste. If the taste wasn't a factor, I'd drink Tooheys New or whatever else was cheapest or had the best price to alcohol ratio. Same goes for wine and certain spirits (when mixed correctly).
Alcohol is an acquired taste, so having one beer in your life and claiming that all alcohol tastes crap is rubbish. I absolutely love beer these days but it certainly wasn't my drink of choice until I'd been drinking it for some years (I'd usually have a couple then switch to spirits). Same goes for cheap spirits. No one consumes home brand chocolate 'because it all tastes the same'.

I always laugh when people say it's "an acquired taste".

I laugh at people who miss out on all manner of flavours because they're too stubborn or foolish to try things. Ah well, your loss
Also, just to back up the points above - if the only reason you drink is to get drunk then you're doing it wrong. _________________

my sense of decency really wants to agree with this, but i firmly believe that the delerium of mild-drunkedness far outweighs all taste factors
btw, how many people here, when they're out drinking, only drink beer out of peer pressure? i mean, there are some awesome tasting spirit mixes, but an average guy can't order a malibu and lemonade (awesome combination) without being labelled a ***... _________________ DON'T SURRENDER

^ I drink beer because it tastes delicious. I don't really do dig spirits anymore as I don't do sweet drinks. I never drink soft drink (well maybe once a month) so going to the pub isn't any different.
As for the health arguments, I'd rather have a beer made from natural ingredients than all the processed **** that goes into soft drink. _________________

^ Preach it! Even a night on some really shitty beer (Geelong Bitter, anyone?) will leave you feeling better off than a night on an equal number of breezers or any of those artificially coloured/flavoured pre-mixeds.
You don't have to go sweet for spirits, either. A good quality rum/scotch/bourbon/vodka/gin/cognac/etc. should be fine neat, or on the rocks if you'd prefer. I have some Appleton's 12 year aged rum for sipping neat (you wouldn't want to mix it), and it really is lovely; I'd recommend it to anyone as an entry-level rum. Of course, you just wouldn't want to do that with the cheaper rums - there's a reason that Bacardi and Bundy are marketed as drinks you mix. _________________

I've recently gotten into JW Blue, it's expensive but I can actually stand the taste of it (I normally shy away from Scotch.. unless it's a fillet). Also grandfather port is absolutely amazing stuff, but again, it's pretty spense so only something I get when I go out to dinner.
But I'm largely a beer drinker, I enjoy most varieties but Hoegaarden has been my favourite brew for quite some time now.

Luckily I'm neither of those as I've tried quite a lot of different stuff and still do, but they all had this one taste that I just didn't like. I have to say though I don't mind a long island ice tea that's had the sweetness dulled down by a bit of ice.

Say that to my Step dad, he loves the taste of Wild Turkey, but stops before he gets drunk.
Its a shame, hes one of those funny drunks
Speaking of taste, I may not drink, but a sip of Scrumpy Jacks is delicous.
