It probably just seems that way cause you can actually hear the game sounds now.
I installed it! It's awesome, looks way better than before and is way more responsive, and installed games are so much faster! Can't wait to get online with it _________________

I'm pretty sure most games are about 6-9GB, and from what I've heard it takes about 10 minutes to install.
Yes, you do need the disc in the drive to prevent mass piracy of course. _________________

Looks like ill only be able to install 1 game at a time then is it practical enough to be able to install and uninstall them on disc change every couple days?

Fallout 3 is about 5.8gb
You can fit two games on a 20gb hard disk in most cases, from my messings around. All games tend to be smaller than I had expected.
I can fit Fallout 3 and Far Cry 2 at the same time.
Uninstallation takes about five seconds, installing takes about 3 - 8 mins depending on the size of the game. It's not a big deal really, and definitely worth the speed and quietness. _________________

I honestly don't think people should waste their money upgrading their hard disk. You're talking about a lot of money to save a few minutes... I'm fine with my two games at a time 20gb... <_< _________________

^if it's manageable with 20gig I'll stick with what I've got.
Bring on the 19th can't wait to see the differences in action.
It's no like we're gonna get netflix here anytime soon. The neglect of Aussie market continues. _________________

I never thought I'd be excited about something like a dashboard overhaul, but this has really piqued my interest. I have come to understand and enjoy the current dashboard functionality, however change is always welcome, especially if it streamlines the convoluted and overlapping blades structure and the slow navigating xbl marketplace. _________________

I don't know if anyone else has noticed anything, I mean I didn't in Fallout 3 besides much faster loading but I played Far Cry for almost 30 hours and there is a DISTINCT change in graphic quality after installing the game to the hard disk.
There is a kind of ring around your character, an invisible ring if you will, and everything within it becomes crisper. There is a second ring further away that does the same thing to a lesser extent and this is the only one present when I ran it off the disc.
I switched between disc and hdd a few times to make sure I wasn't imagining it, but its quite apparent.
In all honesty I consider this a bad thing. Because the 'ring' is so close to your character you can actually see the graphics enhancing in a circle around you and it's a bit weird looking, especially on grass.
I'm curious what this means though... did ubisoft have access to the NXE and factored in hard disk installations to 'improve' the game in some way or is this, somehow, a random side effect of not running from the disc?
Very odd. _________________

Maybe the games streaming is out of 'sync' given the faster load times of the HDD.
I also noticed with Midnight Club:LA that the loading times were about 1/4 of the rate when playing off the disc. Im assuming the recent crop of games have already taken advantage of the HD boot? _________________

That "ring" around the character in Far Cry is very odd, but I suppose some side-effect of the way it normally operates its streaming. I imagine a patch will fix that up though. The new dash isn't even officially out yet is it? So by the time it is they might have worked out something for it. It's no surprise that implementing a totally generic "install" option for the games might introduce a couple of quirks here and there.
Surprised to hear there's that much difference in loading time though. Especially since load times on PS3 (hard drive installed games) vs X360 counterparts have typically been pretty similar.

a new graphics driver in the update perhaps? Someone noticed it made a large difference to fable II also
If anyone with the update has mass effect, can we get a report on that and the pop ups, mass effect could be improved greatly and that would be awesome. _________________ kill, kill, kill.....the white man. Kill the white man, kill

I cant see that ring you are talking about in Farcry2....but I hadnt played it much before the NXE anyway.
Havent noticed any graphics improvements to be honest in any of my games, I just love the fact the disc isnt spinning constantly. _________________ XBL/PSN/Steam: BenC82

^Yep, otherwise it would just cause mass piracy.
Its the same as playing off the disc, in terms off, if you eject the disc it will dump you back to the dashboard. _________________ XBL/PSN/Steam: BenC82

I have Mass Effect but I am not home to test it... if nobody has posted any impressions tomorrow, I will
Snixtor: You remember of course that the PS3 bluray drive is only 2x and its installations are only a fraction the size of the games on those discs - this is full, 100% installation. The disc is never accessed at all. _________________

Off Xbox.com
| Quote: | Lately you may have seen around the internet information and possibly links to files that will update your Xbox 360 to the New Xbox Experience now, before the official release date of November the 19th. Do not install these files. Doing so will get you banned and will stuff you up come November the 19th.
You've been warned!
Also, don't post information on how to get these files, or how to install it.
Thanks. |
Im skeptical on whats happening Nov 19, Major Nelson says its a ban till the full updates out, this says otherwise. _________________

"This" being, I believe, a quote from a forum moderator. Not exactly a reliable source. Nelson says it's just till the 19th, as does the official email that came with the preview so thats the source I shall trust.
As above, if you put a hard disk or memory card from an NXE preview console onto one without it, it will automatically install the NXE on that machine and it will no longer be able to connect to live until the 19th. _________________

MMM thats what Im doing.
The 360 I sent in just then for RROD has the NXE installed, Ill see what MS will do with it
Also, if those who installed early are supposed to be indeed banned forever once the full update is online, what happens if you get it off xbox.com & install it with the 360 not connected to the internet? Would the banning procedure be in the update? _________________

Yeah thats bullsh*t imo. They wont ban you. I'll just say my mate that had NXE plugged his HDD into my xbox and it auto installed.
If you are that worried, unplug your internet from your 360 until the 19th - that way they wont know.
They way i understand it works is when you signed up for the NXE preview program, you had to put you console ID number in (not serial). They pushed the update out to these console IDs and told their xbox live server "Only allow these 5000 console IDS to connect with NXE" So when you try connect now it will reject you as you arent one of the allowed console IDs.
Come the 19th November, they will just open it up to all console IDs. Those that already have NXE will be able to connect and those that dont already have it will be forced to download it and then able to connect.
This is just my opinion.
And as Peveus said, Major Nelson said to the preview program participants "Dont use your HDD on anyone elses xbox or else it will install the NXE on their machine and they wont be able to connect to XBL until the 19th" <--- nothing about perminent banning.
Lets be honest, they want our $80 a year! _________________ XBL/PSN/Steam: BenC82
