Hi All,

I picked up this game last night and thought it was so good that, along with alot of bigger releases this year, it disserves it's own thread.

I have only played the first, small story arch and the intro missions and I was surprised at how nice the new combat system is.

There is also a lock on system now so that you can fight enemies in the air with much more precision.

Another new feature is wall fighting, where you can have fights with enemies while standing on the side of a building, it is very easy to get used to, the only problem being that you sometimes forget you are sideways and try and jump forwards to an enemy, only leaping away from the wall to the street below.

The ability to swap between normal and black spidey is a great addition, even being able to swap in mid air. The abilities vary between the two suits, and using XP earned you can them individually.

Probably the largest improvement over the past Spiderman games is the story, It has great voice acting (except for Spiderman himself) with an amazing gathering of marvel charecters and an actual interesting story as to why all the charesters are coming together rather than just a string of random stories for each villian/ hero.

There is also an element of choice in this game, although I only experienced one point of it so far where you can choose the black suit (bad) or red suit (good) option, which is a very nice addition to the gameplay.

The only real flaw I have seen so far is that the side missions have been very plain ie -kill 10 thugs, then - kill 20 thugs and so on as well as some camera issues when trying to see where you are on the street while targeting an enemy above.

From my experience so far, I would give this game around a 8.5/10 to a 9/10....but then I am a huge spiderman fan, so I would probably have loved this gam,e even if the mechanics were shot.

So has anyone else got this or thinking of getting it?

What are your opinions?

I want to get this game, the combat looks fun and Spidey (When he's not being played by Toby McGuire) is always awesome, there's just too much else comming out for me to justify it. Might have to wait a while.

I'd like to hear more from you once you play through it a bit if you can icon_smile.gif
I'm really interested in this, but it's gotten such a ridiculous range of reviews that it's difficult to make up my mind about it.

IGN gave it 5.5, and other sites are giving it high 8s.
Could you please post your impressions as you play through some more? Many thanks in advance!

I absolutely loved Spider-Man 2, but I think I might wait a while before I get this one. From what I've been reading on various forums it's better than 3 but not as good as 2 (though I can't imagine much being worse than 3). I'm holding back because I've read a lot of complaints about things I can see myself finding very annoying, such as the Wall Crawling being completely broken, huge fetchquests for tokens and an inability to free-roam after you beat the game. I think if they plonked Web of Shadows' combat system and story into Spider-Man 2 they'd have the perfect game, but I don't think that's the case here.

I'd be interested to hear more about it as you play through the game, though. I haven't given up on it completely icon_razz.gif

I have been playing this game for the past 5 days and i say THIS IS THE SPIDERMAN GAME FOR THE FANS i was a little worried as well considering i have always had issues completing Spiderman Games always get stuck in a mission and then i pretty much give up on it but this game has got to be the best i have EVER played and i'd like to think i have played every spiderman game released for consoles i have owned this just feels like its so real.

The Storyline is great and would make a pretty good movie on its own
the Characters are perfect and the fighting system is the best in any spidey game i have played loved the fight with Wolverine and then the Questions he throws at you to Work out if your really Spiderman or Another Venon offspring.

Being able to change suits mid flight or mid Fight swapping between the agility of the red suit to the brute strength of the black suits makes for some sweet combos

Overall i'd give it 9/10 IMO

Losing 1pt for the short length IMO game could have been longer i had it beat in 3 days however that might be because i was layed up at home with a sore back and nothing else to do!

Wow! really? What do you make of the bad reviews this game has received? Not saying your opinions wrong - just wondering how it all fits together...

I might have to give this a shot after all..

Well its my opinion but im a big Spiderman fan so i'm a little bias but as far as Spiderman games go 90% of the ones released in the past 10 years (since say the PS1) have all been hit and miss more miss that hit to be Honest but this game is the perfect blend of action story and characters.

I recommend hiring the game first or EB Rent as a mate of mine does and make your own mind up but i like it there was not much i could fault in it personally but i also dont review 20 games a week and get 2 hours to play them like some reviewers so my score is from the overall game and i mean its got replay value unfortunatly not in DLC but in the 4 or 5 different endings depending on how you pick your options in the game

At the very least i think it's worth a rent. I definatly think it is better than Spider-man 3 and friend or foe (can't entirely speak for FoF.... i avoided it after the disaster that was 3 and from word of mouth).

It is back to being fun like the first Spider-man & Spider-man 2 games were on the playstation (i mean the original ones that had voices as featured from one of the cartoons).

The web swinging is fun, as is the combat (ground punches, aerial combat utilising web slinging, WALL CLINGING COMBAT (it's a little disorientating though icon_lol.gif).

I'm only a few missions after completing the first act, as others have said it will be a short affair depending on your method of gaming. I myself have just used it as a game i'll play for 30 mins or so, in between a few other games (it's my 'commercial break' game when i get sick of Far Cry 2).

Hey all,

Sorry it's been so long since I came back to this but I have had Spiderman contending with Far Cry 2, Fable 2, Saints Row 2 and BIAHH.....which was okay until Fallout 3 came along..

Anyways, I'm only about a third of the way through the game, but I have spent quite a few hours just swinging around town and fighting random enemies.

I have to say, the more I play of this game the more I like it, the combat techniques (such as the web zip to attack with a press of the Y button then another as you make contact) are really amped up when you purchase new abilities, needless to say better than the 'airial tricks' from Spiderman 3.

I'd have to agree with Voodoomajik on nearly all the points he made, and his rating of 9/10...well 9/10 for spiderman fans at least.

The only thing I would disagree with is why it lost one point, I think this game has plenty of length if you complete all the side missions (even the boring ones) and just the simple amount of time swinging about the city can take hours.

I would instead take that point away for the sometimes grating choice for Spiderman's voice, along with the repetitive, sometimes boring side missions.

This game is definately a must have title for all spiderman fans and the best since some of the PS1 classics, or Spiderman 2 at least.

well i've played the game up to the end of the first venom battle, and i gotta say..............its GARBAGE!!

now i'm a huge spider-man fan. ever since i earned my own money till this day i've been buying a majority of the spider-man comics including the ultimate universe one, and they fill up two closets (along with my masculinity). this game is trash.

you have mary jane calling spidey as Peter when he is in his spidey costume. and the whole game is button mashing too!

either you guys who like the game work for the publisher, or you have never played a good game ever... EVER!! (and that includes pong)

just my two cents

I have heard bad thinsg about the characterisation and story aspects but so many people seem to like the game despite of it . I just discovered Hyper gave it an 8 as well which was suprising. I mean, its not the best game ever obviously but i'll be def picking it up soon to give it a shot for myself. If its no good then ebay is my friend..

Now now dont be like that see in my opinion that comment makes you sound like a douche... yes i am a spiderman fan and yes that probably why i rated it higher than others would believe...

The Story is unique thats why i like it, i am a massive Spidey fan my self and i am also a collector of alot of rare spiderman comics i have fileing cabnet full of Marvel comics. But there is no denying that if you played it a little longer than the first Venom fight then you'll realise this too...

there is no button mashing in the game unless you got fat fingers??? do you??? there are fairly simple combos to pull 2-3 buttons when fighting one on one or more advanced ones (5-6) when dealing with bosses or multiple enemies...

No Offence to Game Reviewers around the world but honestly if you had to give judgement on a 5 games a week and write 4000 word you would not play it as long as a hardcore gamer you take it off face value and word of mouth. I Rarely read a review till after i have played the game to a reasonable point not the end of the 3rd level...

If you read most of the reviews that have been done about this game 90% of them comment on the bad Spiderman games of the past and yes there have been alot of them but this IS one of the good ones...

So i say to anyone that has looked at this game in a store or at the Video Store get it and play it for a few days and then maybe you'll understand what im saying

^ its a secret identity!!!!! the whole reason spidey keeps it a secret is because he doesn't want may, mj or anyone else close to him to die. Thats what Civil-War was all about, what captain america died for!!

Voodoomajik have you even played the game? because..
>>>SPOILERS<<< wrote:
i'm not talking about mj calling spidey on the phone (that doesn't even happen anywhere up to where i played) once you beat venom, paramedics are treating MJ on and ambulance gurney and she is outright calling him peter while spidey is talking to her in front of two paramedics. now all this stuff from now on is hypotethical, but to be a paramedic you have to be smart, and seeing a good looking woman talking to the infamous spider-man right infront of you while you are treating her and calling spidey by a civilian name too? surely you put two and two together, take this information to JJ (or worse) and try to cash in!! Gargh!

^yeah its the scene right after that fight, after the scene bit then the game tutorial explains about changing costumes

i'm playing the ps3 ver btw, but it shouldn't be different

EDIT: watch the end of that youtube video, shes being treated by the paramedics and giving him a gift and calling him peter numerous times. Also calling mary-jane by name, so yeah, you have enough information to put two and two together, unless scarlet witch comes and makes it so the events never happened icon_rolleyes.gif

As big as a Spider-man fan I am, I still haven't played Web Of Shadows. Maybe once exams are over, I can finally give it a whirl. Going by what I've read here, I think I might like it.

She says peter... when Spidey is like ten feet away and same when he says MJ the medics would honestly think she's concussed... not directly talking to Spidey plus just like lois and Supes in the DC relm in the Marvel relm Its made very obivous that MJ Has a thing for Spidey...

she says peter, spidey comes, she gives him a present saying "i got you a birthday present". you have a birth date (without a year), two peoples names, peter and mary-jane, and a paramedic licence. you can put two and two together
