Ok. Let me try and clarify what most people seems to be confused about.

Obviously there are many different values and beliefs in this world. And it's impossible to truthfully not offend anyone at any time. What I mean is, it's impossible to follow the rules that exist for ALL the beliefs in the world just to be not offensive.

So, doing something about complaints purely for the sake of trying to be not offensive is not what Sony is doing. But Sony is a business company. And that's just what they're doing. Business.

I dont think the issue is whether the muslim community is angry about the game and is doing fearful things about it. But i think the issue is the fact that Sony is just concerned about losing a good chunk of their customers.
They probably couldn't care less if a content offends some people in a game, but they cared enough to do something drastic about it because in their plan the target audience is pretty much EVERYONE. They probably figured the issue of offensiveness could hurt the sales significantly.

I mean, lets look at other games. Just about every war game has minority groups as the enemies. But they don't care if it causes offense. They don't care if North Koreans complain and ban the game, because they don't regard those groups as part of their target audience.

It's simple really. It's all business here. Nothing about bringing peace to the world or whatever.

In the end it's really simple. A company made some choices about their product. So what? Only choice you have is to buy or not buy. No need to get upset and say complicated things about it. If anything, be more relevant and save your emotions for the damn politicians that make your lives harder everyday. lol

I totally agree, this is a conscious move by Sony to keep the target audience as broad as possible. However, the thing I don't understand is that this song is fine to release as a song for sale, ie. not part of a game, but as soon as it becomes part of a game it needs to be censored?

I really don't care about the delay (it was a crazy week of releases already) but I do have a problem with being so quick to bend to their sensitivities.

I mean, I swear that if matyrdom wasn't so celebrated in Islam then western societies wouldn't be falling over themselves to censor everything for them.

Certainly a bunch of people were killed over the Danish cartoons (which was obviously a lot worse as it had direct implications for free speech). Maybe Sony are afraid this would have caused more loss of life?

If so, I don't think pandering to the people who would incite such violence is a sustainable approach.

And now we can all see whats wrong with the world.

Something that is a game turns into a discussion like this, lets all just relax and wait for the game and play for hours on end like god intended!

Yeah i agree. Christianity is referenced in games all the time and the majority of the time you dont hear christians getting all uptight about it. Muslims have a "thing" about having everyone think the same way they do. If they dont like it then apparently we're not supposed to like it.
But it's not that it's getting refferenced that's the matter, it's that the scared words of the Qu'ran are not allowed to be set to music, and this is hihgly offensive. Imagine if a game had the bible on fire, christians might flip[ out at that.

perhaps tearing up a photo of the Pope on Live TV would've been a better example.

They complained because real-life Manchester has suffered from a history of violent crime, so they think it's a bit naff that even more violence is set there. It wasn't just about the church.

So you are pointing out that there were actually TWO good reasons for Sony to consider (Religion and Real life violence) and they STILL ignored it, but responded instantly in this case.

iirc, Resistance was temporarily removed from shelves following this complaint, but then Sony produced documents where they showed they asked for permission to use the Church as a game locale, and it was granted, thereby nullifying the complaint.

We will let games like GTA, CoD, and the like be sold and played by our kids but the moment we "might" offend someone's spiritual belief we call in all stops! This is clearly a sign Islamic terrorists are winning the mind games ... if not the PS3 console games lol. If 911 never happened you can bet this game would be on sale and no one would give a rats. Pathetic over-sensitive over-reaction that will probably result in some mindless Islamic moron bombing another innocent civilian in the name of protecting their faith because Sony offended them in a stupid game!

What a joke religion has become. Its followers need to build a bridge and get over themselves. Secular society is just as bad, pandering to the insensitivities of irrational religious beliefs.

Who cares if a passage of any religious text is in a game. Religion is a fairy tale.

Seriously, its not that bigger deal. If it is against their teachings, why not just remove it? its one tiny little song. Its like when they did a rap version of our national anthem, many people were unhappy about that. There was no 'extremism' here, no bomb threats, just a group of responsible muslim people who discussed soemthing then brought it to the attention of sony that the song may offend some people. Its not about 'cencorship' its about respecting the beleifs of others. It does not acutally effect the gameplay. I thnik its really ignorant to say ' it only got taken off because the devs were scared of what could have happened' Because thats clearly not the case. The whole point is that sony is listening to what people have to say and doing accordingly. Its something quite minor and they are fixing it accordingly.
