Soccer isn't played on a court it's played on a field.
What?

Fifa!!
Fifa now has gameplay on-par if not better than PES.. Plus the presentation is WAAAAAY better in every way.
PES definitely needs a complete re-build next year if they are to stay in the game. _________________

Even though im not a soccer fan - i'd still get FIFA over PES. I've heard some pretty shocking things about PES, especially the latest one on PS3. _________________

I am utterly dissapointed with Konami.
I rarely pre-order games no matter how much they are hyped because of fear they may dissapoint. However I genuinely believed PES2009 was a huge improvement from PES2008 especially after reading many previews.
Right now my PES is in transit from UK and I no longer am eagerly waiting for it based on player reviews. I have always said to myself FIFA is the inferior footy game and I will never play it dispite its superior online modes.
Yet Konami have improved nothing much from last year. For me an improvement in the online mode was what I thought Konami would make one of their priorities which they would improve drastically. But reading the player feedback so far about very bad online lag is a big let down.
Ironically, FIFA football is cheaper than PES2009 yet FIFA is the more complete package.
I am a huge PES fan like most people here, but Konami are now taking us fans forgranted and really its dissapointing.

I've been pretty damn loyal to PES since I first played PES2 on ps2. But I heard nasty things about PES08 and didnt buy it. But also I didnt buy FIFA for the sake of loyalty.
And now what? It seems like Konami will fail to impress us again this year. Honestly, I blame it on their sudden move to produce the game as a super multi-platform title.
They either dont have the adequate number of staff to meet the demands or they are simply just not on top of the new technology.
I've played the demo for both games over and over, and over. but I dont really feel inclined to either of them. I'm a pretty big football fan, so I would probably buy one this year since I'm sick and tired of playing the blurry ps2 version.
I'll wait around a bit for a few more reviews but it looks like I'm gonna have to give into the Evil Abomination

After playing both demos, I've decided with PES 09.
I just feel that FIFA's gameplay is too weird for me.
PES 08 was s**t to say the least. _________________

I've always gone with PES since PES3 on the PS2, except for this year. I bought Fifa09 and I'm having a lot of fun with it. _________________

See, I'm biased. I've never actually played PES, and I don't plan on doing so, despite having heard over the years just how much better it is than FIFA. Frankly, I'm happy with FIFA. I was happy with FIFA when I was just a lad playing FIFA '99 the demo, tackling the goalie with Dwight Yorke only to get red carded every time, much to my amusement, and I was happy when I got FIFA '04, racking up many an hour playing random team after random team. I'll remain one of the faithful.

When I got PES3 for PS2 I thought I'd never turn back, it felt a lot better than FIFA at the time. However, after trying demo's last year I went with FIFA 08. People knock EA for just chucking out yearly titles with little improvement, but they've made a lot of improvement with FIFA, and again this year have released a very very good game, imo. So much so that PES may never get a look in with me again. _________________

PES was the soccer game for me till UEFA came out last year -
This year it is FIFA - the people at EA have listened and the game is so much fun to play compared to even a couple of years back -
Be a Pro Seasons is a BLAST !!

I've been a Pro Evo fan but haven't purchased a current gen soccer game yet.
I downloaded both demos recently and have to say I'm leaning towards FIFA.
Konami definitely have some catching up to do now.

I hate fanboys of either genre who refuse to acknowledge the positives of each of the other games. Both games have their pros and cons.
I've played Fifa in the early 2000's and moved to PES3 after finding out the gameplay was quite good on PES.
But this year, I am loving this Be A Pro mode on FIFA 09 because of its immersiveness, with the camera and game focused on one player. I agree that EA have listened to the feedback, and even though it's not perfect, it has a lot going for it this year.
Though after downloading both demos, I bought FIFA 09 first - but I'll be looking to play PES2009 if I find it in the bargain bins later this year or early next year.

PES 08 Wii was the greatest soccer game I've ever played, so PES wins.

PES offline, FIFA online.
FIFA's AI is just so unbalanced between your team-mates and the opposition AI, plus i find the strategy options in PES much more useful, more effective/responsive and also easier to implement and change in-game than in FIFA.
This poll probably should've waited until PES 09 is actually out in Australia BTW...

These are a big seller for me too. When I weighed out each year which title I'd pick up, it was always based on the following:
I never got the whole "PES gameplay is 100x better" thing. I tried to play it once, and couldn't stand how the players ran for starters, it looked like someone had strapped a pool cue to each of the players' spines, they were rigid and ran like a japanese anime character.
But then I hear the similar things said about the fifa players, so I guess it's simply a matter of what you are used to.
I just always thought having proper player names and league licenses was a must, plus I could never navigate my way around the shocking PES menus.
I've yet to pickup a next-gen console, but Fifa 09 will be a great reason to finally nab a PS3. I'll see what packages come around this holiday season, but I haven't even considered getting PES from what I've seen of it to date. _________________

Soccor games are pretty much the same as they were 10 years ago. That is why PES Wii was so full of greatness. Yummy.
PES was always better then Fifa. But ISS was bliss. _________________

Back in the day it was ISS on the 64. Those games were epic although I also liked the FIFA games but not as much. Pro Evo 2 set the bench mark for me and it continued on until Pro Evo 6. However when I first got my 360 bought FIFA World Cup 06 over PES 6 as I had it on PS2 and was extremely impressed with how FIFA had improved over the years. I bought 08 and again was very impressed about the improvement. I had high hopes for PES 08 but Konami did very little to no improvement on the series where as EA has continually improved FIFA and now with FIFA 09, in my opinion, have now surpassed PES.
So currently FIFA but my preffered series use to be PES. _________________

I figure it's also worth making a mention of the music. Yes, a game is definitely not all about the music, and you only ever hear the music during the intro screens, but seriously, Rockafeller Skank was a fantastic theme for '99 and they got better from there. The Caesars did 'Jerk It Out' for '04 at least six months before it actually hit the top of the charts. With more recent editions of the game featuring bands like Bloc Party, you'd have to consider the music during the setup screens as a selling point - it's damn good music.
But that's just my opinion.
