First time i heard of the series was when i found out Bethesda was making Fallout 3. I ended up buying the first two and Tactics though and love them to pieces. But i think F3 will top them all.. will be there 9am picking up my preorder with a massive grin on my face. Cant wait! _________________

I remember going to a friend's house as a kid and playing fallout 1 on his 'new' computer. Good game, but I don't know if I'll get Fallout 3, I hate censorship. _________________

I got Fallout 2 when it was released and actually played it first. Then I went back to the first one for the "prequel story" if you will. I loved the freedom, they were so damn unique in their day, who would have thought that a turn based RPG would come out of the US and be so awesome? I don't have high hopes for Fallout 3 to live up to the originals, Bethesda just don't seem to be able to craft a game quite like Black Isle could back in the day. They still are, and possibly will always be, the kings of the role playing genre.

The only content that has been changed is the renaming of the drugs, from say Morpheine to Happy Juice etc
also i love how they mention this in the piracy link
PS: I do have to point out the irony of this being pirated on Xbox360, considering all the talk of PC having the big pirating problem. _________________

I played a bit of Fallout Tactics as it was rather accurately described as a PC version of Necromunda. Always meant to get around to the actual RPGs. _________________

I really enjoyed Tactics, which always struck me as odd seeing as I'm not much for those kind of tactical/strategy games. I suppose it was action-y and Fallout-y enough to grab and hold my interest.
Up until I encountered a showstopping bug - my captain/leader (main guy of the party that held the high skills (to pay the bills)) became afflicting with a cramp (or similar, I forget)... that would not heal. It gave him a massive movement penalty which basically made him useless, which crippled my entire team. So, I stopped playing about a third of the way through and it left such a bitter taste that I never returned, even after the patch that fixed said issue (and many more I'd wager) came out.
Brotherhood of Steel though... I forced my way through that gruelling cavalcade of mediocrity purely in the hope that it might have some cool links to or storyline additions to the Fallout 'universe'. Anyone who thinks it might be worthwhile let me warn you now - it isn't!
(The soundtrack was pretty excellent though - more or less kept me going in the face of massive gameplay crapfulness) _________________

i remember being intrigued by the Fallout 1 box for ages before i happened to walk into a store and see it on clearance sale, so finally took the plunge and bought it.
it was already quite old (in videogame terms) - at the very least Baldur's Gate was already out, and most of my RPG experience came from this, and Diablo 1, and reverting from real-time combat back to turn-based took a little getting used to.
but yeah, i absolutely loved it.
Fallout 2 i had no hesitation in getting, but sad to say i never finished it.
i got to the Oil Rig, but it was here i learnt a VERY important CRPG lesson:
always have at least 2 save files, and alternate their use.
i made the mistake of hitting Quick-save as a super-mutant's RPG shell was heading towards me to kill me instead of quickload, meaning that whenever i loaded, i'd have about 2 seconds of watching that rocket moving towards me, then dying, and nothing i could do about it.
and while i did used to have multiple saves, the last alternate one was some days worth of playing before, and i was simply too p***ed off to do it again at the time, and i simply never returned to it.
then for some reason, never really played FO: Tactics.
good call on the Necromunda front too - hadn't really noticed before.
and i never played that console game. (Brotherhood of Steel? something like that.)
but yeah, been waiting for FO3 for a long time. _________________

Played Fallout 2 and Tactics, then bought Fallout 1 but haven't gotten back to that yet . Having played those is the main reason I'm so skeptical about number 3, I love top down gaming, 2 & tactics were both awesome but with the transition to a FPS (don't kid yourself, it's a FPS as far as gameplay is concerned) I'll probably find my FPS skills are likely to break fallout 3's stats and wreck the game, not to mention making it inherintly less fun in the process. I guess it's not as bad as what was done to shadow run though... but it's still a little close for comfort .

I bought Fallout 1 on release day.. waaaaay back in 1996. I was only 13 at the time, but after playing a demo of it on some $5 demo disc I bought at a newsagency, I was immediately hooked. Turn based combat with guns? Sold.com.au. I spent a solid month saving all the pocket money and anything else I could get and got my mum to pre-order it at the EB close to her work. Come release day I was bugging her non-stop about it, asking her if she picked it up, telling her that today was the day it came out. Unfortunately she had to work overtime that night and didn't get home until late. Still that didn't stop me from playing it until 3 in the morning and having to go to school the next day.
Pretty much the same deal happened with Fallout 2! Haha.
What got me hooked on Fallout was the wit and humor thrown about in the game, as well as an interesting storyline to boot.
Fallout 3 has been a long time coming. Am I upset that it's not in the same format as the first 2? Not really. As long as Bethesda manages to keep that Fallout charm, I'm there on day one, dying to get out of uni to pick it up and play until the early morning. Just like old times! _________________

Never heard of Fallout before the announcement of Fallout 3. Don't really even know what Fallout 3 is.

OMG Brett. I really hope that's either because you're very young, or just a casual gamer lol.
The Fallout franchise is one of the most legendary in all gaming. You'll find Fallout's 1&2 on many/most top 10 games of all time lists. Most hard-core RPG fans will put them at the very top of the best RPG ever list.
They are still awesome fun to play through, I highly recommend you give'em a go.
Now, having said all that, I have very grave concerns regarding Fallout 3 (aka Oblivion with guns). Contrary to popular consensus, Bethesda games are not very highly regarded in the RPG gaming community. They are loved by 'casual' gamers not really used to playing 'true' RPG's. There's never any real C&C (Choice & Consequence) or branching storylines. The player really can't influence anything in the game world - it's all pre-ordained (scripted).
I'll still buy F3 and I think casual gamers (the majority) will love it, but as an RPG, like all Bethesda games, it's probably gonna suck. That doesn't necessarily mean it wont still be fun of course. (well, for a while at least)

The two original Fallout titles remain, to this day, as two of the best (if not THE best) examples of how to make a 'true' RPG. That's not to say other RPG's are not RPGs, but a vast majority of games in the RPG genre take a lot from adventure and action games rather than the original formula and concept of a 'role playing' design.
Fallout 3 looks fun and I've got a pre-order down on it. I think it will visually do a good job of replicating the Fallout world, and I think it will be an enjoyable game (possibly a great game), but I doubt it will be a true sequel in vein of the originals. Something a little bit like Fallout Tactics, it will be a nice series inspired spin-off, but not the ultimate successor. _________________
