So, who's got it?

I'm one of those idiots who lined up for the 9:01AM release date, it's currently 3:28PM, and I'm 200 pages into the 766 page monster... icon_lol.gif

So far, it's kinda slow... It took 10 chapters just for them to reach Hogwarts... It took about 2-3 in the previous books. icon_confused.gif

Regardless, it's engrossing enough to have me reading for 6 hours straight. There's the usual Rowling convention of gradually giving tiny pieces of the big picture - I'm still confused about a few things, so I'm gonna go read some more... icon_smile.gif

I'll get it when the hype dies down abit icon_smile.gif.

I enjoyed the previouse books, and I don't understand why some people think it's "gay"? I know alot of older people (20-40 years) who also love the books, there very well written.
I just hope they stop making the movies icon_razz.gif.

You lined up?

You nerd! icon_razz.gif

I'll probably borrow it if need be, but I haven't read any of the Harry Potter books, which I suppose I should.

Last year, my closest friend recommended the Harry Potter books to me. I had a spare $40, and picked up the boxed set with all four previous books in it.

Now, that's significant because I stopped reading novels in primary school. I'd tackled Lord of the Rings a few times, but apart from that - nothing.

I picked up Philosopher's Stone with a groan, started to read, and put down the book 7 hours later in shock after finishing it... icon_lol.gif

Anyways, I spent a solid week initially reading all four previous books. I've since re-read ALL of them several times, and I'm now up to page 300 of Order of the Phoenix.

Let me just say... AHHHHH! BLOODY HELL I HATE THIS PARTICULAR NEW BITCH OF A CHARACTER! I won't name names, but anybody who's in the process of reading it will know who I'm talking about... DAMMIT she just makes my blood boil (metaphorically, of course... icon_razz.gif) icon_mad.gif

Anyways, I'll be back later... Hoping to reach at least the halfway mark by the time I go to sleep. icon_smile.gif

My sister had it ordered, but I'm not particularly fussed by any of the books. Tried reading the first book while I was sick once, gave up after they got to Hogwarts.

Just not my sort of thing.

Don't talk to me about that f**king book.

I just had to give up my £8.96, hardback, first edition copy to my sister, just because she lost a competition. Now I've been forced to wait for the paperback edition.

Rowling annoys me. Here is a story about rags-to-riches single mother, whom just 'happened' to strike a gold-mine with her fingers. How big is her salary? 100-150 million dollars per new Harry Potter -book, at least. Plus novelties from the movies, toys etc. It's horrible.

And what is the worst thing about this whole succession-story, is how good her books really are. Harry Potter -books are one of the greatest pieces of easy literature - not as tough and heavy as Lord of the Rings, or as complex as Philip K. Dick's books - J.K. Rowling knows how to write a book which'll entertain both children and adults.

Damn it.

Haven't gotten the fifth book yet - but my little-sister will as soon as possible. Given that we live in Finland, we either have to order the book via the internet, or wait for the finnish translation.

I've just finished it.

Strangely underwhelmed. For the first half I was convinced that it was going to turn out better than the Prisoner of Azkaban. How wrong I was. icon_sad.gif It's decent, but the ending is NOTHING LIKE as good as the Goblet of Fire, the characters aren't as well done as Prisoner of Azkaban and the story really fails to impress, largely because of the distinct lack of a major 'quest'.

One exception to this is Harry. I read in a Guardian editorial a while ago that there was a concern that she would find that, as Harry grew older, Rowling would have trouble making him appear still-realistic without overstepping her talent or alienating her audience. She has succeeded - REMARKABLY well. The way you see touches of his father towards the end in his comments towards Ron... superb.

The writing is also possibly the best out of any book in the series, and there are some very funny moments - Dumbledore's chocolate frog one still makes me grin.

I don't know; I'm really in two minds again. I think I'll start the series again and read them through from beginning to end.

Aside from that, it's just a case of waiting for the next one!

*twiddles thumbs*

(WHY DID SHE KILL THAT CHARACTER?!?! I'm really upset about that, although Nick's curtain comments were really good. I wonder if we'll see more emotive dealing with it at the beginning of VI? Everyone's chance to get sad about it was kind of cut off).

You actually lined up Bronze? You geek! icon_lol.gif

I had to work that morning, but I got it when I finished. There were actually people lined up outside work when we opened, but not that many. It tripled by the time 9am rocked around though. But after all that over the weekend, we still had about 6 boxes left today when I went in. icon_confused.gif

Finished it last night, so it only took me 2 & 1/2 days this time, but I coud've finished it on Sunday night if I wasn't looking after my aunt's house and getting distracted by Austar. Bawled my eyes out in the convo after _____ died. Why'd they have to be the one that went? icon_cry.gif Oh and the new DatDA teacher is a right royal biatch. I think my nostrils flared more than McGonagall's did whenever she was around.

*****WARNING MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS*******

Finished it a couple of days ago... HATED IT. I guessed who the character was that was gonna die when I started reading, and it is the worst character she could've chosen - now the series has no one I like. And the scene where she kills the character is so very stupid! She pretends to kill at least five other characters... but it was clear none of them would've been dead. I hated it, and so far, none of the books are good except the third one (from what I recall... the fourth one was Ok but the ending left a VERY sour taste in my mouth which removed all sense of enjoyment from it).

I never can really judge books that well
I can say that i did enjoy this one
somehow i read the whole thing in three nights
I'm not a hige fan of the series but i've read them all and i can say that it brings some new things to the series, stronger love intrest, and other things with definitly more serious undertones.
I can't see how most 10 year olds though would appreciate this as much as the others, it seemed as if the series is being more shaped towards older kids
