I only shop there when they have their specials
also the problem is, all the rare pre-owned niche games can only be gotten at EB because there are just so many EB compared to other places (I would love to see some more games traders personally).

It's never ever going to work because why the hell would you trade in your ps3 and many games to get another ps3 makes no sense. _________________

Everyone here seems to hate EB, I personally only buy from them when there is a sale and I don't trade in to them cos its a rort.
But for everyone looking to screw them over a bit now is your chance: There current trade in deal 'buy 2 pre-owned get 1 free' has a bit of a glitch in the system. On the poster it it says free game must be of equal or lesser value. It doesn't say that it has to be equal or lesser value than the cheapest game (even though that what is intended). So you can actually buy 2 cheap games and get a game that is worth the total price of those two items. My friend works at EB and told me that they have to do this if the person points out the mistake on the poster. He has bought about 12 games by doing this. I plan on going in tomorrow and scoring some cheap classics. (if this has already been posted elsewhere feel free to delete)

They'd be pissed as all hell.
I talked with the manager of one of the stores about 40 minutes after a guy traded in 40 PS2 games.
The staff were pissed because the policy is that once a Trade In occurs, they've got to put the stickers on for the Pre-owned stuff pretty much immediately after.
Now, 3 stickers per game x 40 is 120 stickers.
Then they have to scan the actual games in.
Oh, and after I was done, a guy traded in Wii Sports. It was epic. _________________

Why would they be pissed. Its their job. What happens if people stop trading in games? Then they're range is going to be crippled. Im sure in the end they still managed to make a 10000% profit for what may well have been an hours work.
Interestingly enough, while i was waiting for the manager to call back, (see my post above), i noticed they had a sign saying, "last chance to trade in these games" Didnt really look properly, but they were accepting Ps1 and Gamecube games till a certain date.
I wonder just how much people will get a game? considering Ken_Gooner's friend was only offered about $2/ps2 game. Ps1 game/Gamecube games could only expect to get what.. 10c/game? _________________

PS1? I haven't seen a PS1 game in EB for a good 5 years now.
Also, they should stop putting as many stickers on things, that's a big reason why I don't shop there. I couldn't stand buying a game and finding a sticker on the bloody manual. What morons put stickers on paper?

Its not only EB who rip people off exclusively, if you walk over to Game, you pay $99 for a psp after you trade in a ps2 and 10 games, or $499 for a ps3 after you trade in an xbox 360 and 3 games, and they have an exclusion list too..
moral is companies gotta make money somehow, and most of them take advantage of the ignorant customer (mostly parents) like harvey norman and such

Oh, and after I was done, a guy traded in Wii Sports. It was epic. |
before the ps3 and wii came out, eb had a trade deal towards them, and on their advertising feature is stated "no conditions!"
so i bought over 200 quit-stock/discontinued games from myer (cost about $600) and traded them in. and when all was done, i said "oh i forgot.." and took out my edge card. the guy almost cried..
i ended up getting a ps3, extra controller, game and a wii, extra remote, nunchuk and game with no extra cash on top

Pricematching is lazy imo. Waiting for others to have the sales shows too much complacency.
Their 1/2 sales are quite neat tho. _________________ Kill each other nicely please.

I totally agree. They say have the cheapest prices, but overall they are the most expensive place to buy games from.
And as for pre owned games, most are only $5 cheaper than brand new.
And even there pricematching is dodgy at times, eg ringing the store to make sure its in stock and if its not they don't match half the time. You either price match or you don't. _________________

i agree with the "calling up nearest competitor to see if they have stock" condition, if you ran a business that price matched, and big w had an advertised item for a ridiculous price (eg ps3 for $549) but they didn't have any stock, why should you sell that product (and lose money) at the same price if the competitor didn't have it?
my conspiracy theory is all these huge companies have these sales with a few to let go, then wait for their price matching competitors to sell out, sale period end and then they're the only place that has them AND they're selling at full price to get the full margin

Have you noticed that whenever that is said anywhere in any kind of advertising there's always a date attached to when they last looked? For all the general consumer knows EB's prices were the cheapest since 1862, they just got screwed in 1964! So really if someone wanted to be a wiseass they could take these dates on such claims, better them the day before the advert circulates and hey look at that someone just boned an entire promotion on a technicality.
I mean hell I was only given two duties during year 10 work experience;
1: See our competitors, spy on them get their prices for all their stock and "inquire" about their levels "say I'm in the market for such and such for a few friends..."
2: Give it to us and grab lunch.
And that was only a small local chain for christ's sake. So even if you are "expensive" you never know really know who knows that, how much by, and who is pretty damned sure about your stock levels either.
Sales, sales shit me to tears. The point of a sale is to move product for whatever reason, generally that product gets moved and you see yet more of the same product afterwards (rug sales... but wait MORE RUGS TO SELL!) so people buy up in sales and the product get's moved at quicker rates then at RRP. Why not simply then sell as close to the sale price as fiscally possible so that by laws of supply and demand you'd still get more people than you'd get at RRP and then move more product to offset the slight loss in profits?
But no we like gimmicks!

I don't get it. Why don't EB just change their prices to match JB's? Surely the amount of people that actually buy at their prices would be like 1-2%. I don't mean their sales, they occasionally have really good prices, I mean games for $100 where JB have them for $79. Surely it would be easier on everybody to just lower their prices, cause if every retailer in Australia did that, then the RRP might go down, and we might start seeing reasonable prices.

Working in a JB next door to an EB i get a good 15-20 calls a shift for pricematching which becomes quite a pain to constantly have to run to the phone.
That said i work next to an EB that have great staff so i dont mind at all, in fact i asked them about this trade in deal today and they were so disgusted with it they refused to put up the posters in store.
Sometimes i get frustrated but at the same time understand the guys working at a store level dont make the policy or set the prices and they often cop alot of crap from angry customers. _________________ Kill each other nicely please.
