Trust me, it's yellow. And I chose that video since all you need to see is the light and not the whole PS3.

Hope its not a serious PS3 problem :[
From what I have been reading about people having the samething happen, yeah, it's serious.
yeah its serious...sorry to hear that Burnz...
the yellow light is the equivilent of RROD for the 360...you've prob already read up on it but its caused from overheating i think as well...or is it a hard drive failure?? i know its one of the two...
was it a 60gb model?? it will be interesting to see what happens if they need to replace it as to what you will get??

Sony Dude: Welcome to PlayStation, this is Josh, how can I help you?
Me: Hey, I was playing Warhawk yesterday.
Sony Dude: Yeah.
Me: And my PlayStation 3 just like shut off.
Sony Dude: Ok.
Me: And I went to turn it back on and it doesn't turn back on anymore.
Me: It will come on with a green light, then a yellow light, then it will flash with the red light and beep 3 times.
Sony Dude: Ok, where abouts is the PlayStation situated?
Me: It is in front of the TV in a well ventalated area.
Sony Dude: Ok, cause what that does actually it does actually say it's overheating, by the beeping.
Me: Rightio.
Sony Dude: Is there much dust in the vents or anything like that?
Me: Not that I know of, I'll have a look. It's pretty clean, I do vaccume now and then.
Sony Dude: Ok.
Me: There's alittle bit, not alot.
Sony Dude: Ok, that could be, Have you actually turned the PlayStation power off totally like at the wall? Not plugged into the powerpoint?
Me: I have.
Sony Dude: Ok,is it a 60GB or a 40GB model?
Me: It is a 60GB, bought on launch day.
Sony Dude: Ah, rightio.
Sony Dude: Ok, what is your first name then?
Me: Steven.
Sony Dude: With a "v" or "ph"?
Me: With a "v".
Sony Dude: And what is your lastname?
Me: *Bleep*
Sony Dude: Do you have an email address that you can print out documents from by any chance?
Me: Eh, sure. it's *bleep*@gmail.com
Sony Dude: Ah, ok. Very strange.
Me: Yeah, it wasn't even on for very long when it happened.
Sony Dude: It definitely sounds like it's overheating. Quite strange.
Sony Dude: One thing I can get you to try is to maybe try and revaccume. Get rid of any dust that you can actually see.
Me: Rightio.
Sony Dude: And see how that goes. Other then that the only other thing I can advise is actually send it away and we can exchange it for you.
Me: Ok. Oh yeah, I got a disc stuck in it too.
Sony Dude: Ok.
Me: I tried to eject it and it didn't work.
Sony Dude: Which disc was it?
Me: It's a Dragonball Z: Burst Limit game.
Sony Dude: Dragonball Z game?
Me: Yeah.
Sony Dude: Ok, no problems.
Sony Dude: Have you got the PlayStation out in front of you at the moment?
Me: I do.
Sony Dude: Ok, on the back of the PlayStation there is a white barcode.
Me: Ok, let me just turn it around so I can see it.
Me: Yeah, you want all the numbers?
Sony Dude: If possible, yeah.
Me: Alright. It's *bleep*.
Sony Dude: Ok, no problems there. What was your mailing address? So we can send the PlayStation back to you.
Me: Ah, it's *bleep* Morisset. M-o-r-i-s-s-e-t.
Sony Dude: Up near Newcastle?
Me: Yeah.
Sony Dude: And what is your postcode?
Me: 2264.
Sony Dude: Near Cardiff and Broadmedow?
Me: Yeah, close enough.
Sony Dude: I know the area alittle bit.
Me: Oh, cool.
Sony Dude: Ok, now what is your contact number?
Me: *bleep*
Sony Dude: Ok, what we will basically do is send an email to you.
Me: Rightio.
Sony Dude: In that email there is a barcode, just print that barcode out. Take it down to Australia Post.
Me: Yup.
Sony Dude: Australia Post will scan that barcode.
Me: Yup.
Sony Dude: They will give you a box, to put the PlayStation only into.
Me: Ok.
Sony Dude: Yeah and they send it through to us.
Me: Oh, cool.
Sony Dude: Once recieved we'll do an exchange for you.
Me: Ok.
Sony Dude: It will be the exact same age, make, model and colour condition as you have now.
Me: Excellent.
Sony Dude: Except we'll have to change afew parts. Ok, it does take approrzemently 20 to 25 working days.
Me: Uh-ha.
Sony Dude: This is due to quality ensurence testing and the exchange process.
Me: Yup.
Sony Dude: We'll get that sent out to you as soon as possible.
Me: So I'll have to download all my stuff again, won't I?
Sony Dude: Ah, yeah, that's correct.
Me: Ah ok.
Sony Dude: Sorry bout that.
Me: That's alright.
Sony Dude: Is there anything else I can help with?
Me: Ahh, na, that's all. That's all good.
Sony Dude: I'll just finish this off by adding a reference number.
Me: Rightio.
Sony Dude: We'll need this ontop of the box. The number is *bleep*.
Me: Rightio.
Sony Dude: Alrighty.
Me: Thankyou for that.
Sony Dude: It's ok.
Me: Alright, cheers.
Sony Dude: Have a great day.
Me: Bye.
Sony Dude: Thanks for your call.

I'm pretty sure that if you pull out your Hard drive and put it in another console it will want to reformat the hard drive. Check out online and see if you can find some info but I suppose you haven't got too much to lose. _________________ PSN ID: FeloniousTub Wii code: Too long and useless to care!
ive heard of people hooking a external hard drive up, formatting it then transfer everything across... never done it myself... wish i did when i sent my ps3 in.... lost EVERYTHING _________________

if the ps3 won't turn on, hooking an external hdd won't help, if anything maybe taking out the hdd putting it into an external case and hooking it up to the pc seeing if it'll read it as a flash drive might help, just drag and drop to back up. not too certain if it'll work but being a fat 32 format it might. _________________
^ yeah that's what to do if you replace the HDD with a larger one, but in this instance, it's not possible because (i presume, if this is the equivalent of the RROD) you can't get to the dashboard to start any of that transfer.
i don't know about the PS3s want to format a HDD on insertion - i don't know why it would want to, especially if they encourage (or at least enable) swapping HDDs, means that it's almost redundant in hanging onto the older HDDs as backups.
I know it's not going to help you Burnz, but I had this behaviour when I first brought my PS3 home from the US. For me, it turned out that the step down transformer I had it plugged into wasn't delivering enough power to it - it was ALMOST enough power, so it had enough to turn on, detect something weird was going on, give me the red/yellow lights and three beeps and turn off.
Drove me insane - and of course made me think I'd killed it in one go by trying to protect it... bought a bigger transformer (an absolute mother that now powers the PS3, Wii and PS2 all at once) and it worked first go.
Thing is - everything was exactly the same behaviour as what you've got but it was power related... _________________ GAMEparents

hmmm, if your going to end up having to start on a fresh HDD anyway, try formatting it and slip it back into your ps3, it could've just been a corrupt HDD that prevents your ps3 from booting up. _________________
^ rather than format straight away, try pop your friend's HDD in yours, and see if that boots.
(although i suppose there's some risk that your console will corrupt his HDD - perhaps backup his HDD first, then do that.) _________________ My Play-Asia Affiliate Link.
If someone can do me a favor and take out their PS3 HDD and turn it on and tell us (or take a photo) of what is displayed. Since I forgot to try this while I was out today, that would be good. Cause if it does what I think it does then I'm forced to send it away. _________________

Well since his still displays something without a HDD in it. Mine still acts the same, with the yellow light. So guess I'll be heading to the post office tomorrow. _________________
