I don't care for avatars in the slightest, but having to look at a bastardised Mii everytime I boot up the console is hardly something to make me want to sell my 360. |
Oooh new themes are sexy... _________________

Miyamoto is a top bloke, if I was him I'd be flattered too. Personally I think I'll end up preferring the more customisable 360 avatars verses the Miis though.

LOL. Great comments by Miyamoto, maybe it will help MS realise how stupid these things look. I'm perfectly happy with the current dashboard - I have a 360 to play games, not stare at my collection or look at ads. Miicrosoft has clearly missed the point of the Mii anyway - having the cutesy avatars against a horrible gray background is just off.
I still think that this must be a joke - Nintendo's Mii's, Apple's Coverflow, and the gray gradients which remind me of the Playstation 3. They're still missing something from Linux, but then the parody will be complete.
ittekimasu's right - it's not a big deal, people just want to play games. But I don't want my xbox dash to become a virtual living room, where to start a game I watch my virtual Mii get up and put the virtual game in the virtual xbox tray, which then starts the virtual Mii on his virtual TV getting up to put the virtually virtual game in the virtually virtual xbox tray...
Yeah, now my brain hurts.

im not sure whats wrong with the new look. i think it looks nice and brings the xbox to a more polished level (if you start using the PS3 and then come back to the xbox 360 you'll really notice the difference).

Are they classed as a valid contract in this country though, and there is some things that companies such as M$ write into them that you wouldn't be able to put in a signed contract (and you never actually sign a EULA). Has there ever been a test case in this country involving EULA's? I'm interested now if anyone knows?
Someone made a good point in my searching of the net that you can't read the EULA for a 360 until you open the box and you have already paid for it, i think that would cause some trouble for them in enforcing anything on it legally, but i have no idea, just throwing it around.
Know anything about EULA's Spanca?
could we get an infintie loop of EULA's, my EULA holds more weight than yours......... _________________ kill, kill, kill.....the white man. Kill the white man, kill

You don't sign verbal contracts either. But they are legally binding anyway. The EULA states if you don't agree to it, you can return it to the point of purchase and get a refund.

All this discussion about HAVING to update is a bit silly really.
Ok you don't like it, have they said that you need to get it? There could be an option to revert back to the old Blades interface for all we know so don't be so hasty.
Either way this isn't just a UI update, they are almost upping the generation of the console so it meets on par with PS3 and Wii features. Remeber Xbox 360 was released a fair amount of time befor the others so some of it's stuff is a little backdated (no inbuilt wireless for example).
Think of it like a Service pack for XP or Vista. Major update that you might not like but not doing it won't allow you to play new games and use new features.
Remeber people it's FREE! can't believe you're complaining about getting something this huge for free.
They could have released a new Xbox instead!
Seriously it's not going to change how you use your Xbox all that much. I think it's fine, I'm not going to use 90% of the new features and I'm comfortable with the current interface but I don't really care that I'm being forced to get new stuff.
Heaven forbid they FORCE new content on us.

Why would they sue Microsoft. Going by your logic Second Life and any game like it should have sued Nintendo by now.

Hence why they let you use wallpapers that make it not be grey. _________________

Microsoft should add some colour to their new interface. There obviously aiming for the casual auidence and Grey isn't really the colour to do that with. Unless they want the casual depressed people to buy their console. The PSN has some colour to it perhaps MS should do something like that oh wait.......... _________________ Dragonforce's new album Ultra Beatdown out August 27th.

Okay so wallpapers don't make something not grey?
Hey if making it grey means it doesn't attract people like you then PLEASE bring on the grey background. _________________

The themes do NOT take away all the grayness, at least not from the pics I have seen (the floor remains gray, while the wallpaper is the, err, wallpaper).
imo, if they let you customise the floor as well, and took away the bobbleheads, I might not really have any issue with it. But I am quite concerned that this move could be MS's way to add more marketing into the dashboard (I saw 2 ads for the X-Files MOVIE on the same dash panel today. I've never seen a non-game add before... X-Files is fine of course, but the direction is disconcerting. How long before they track your gaming habits to try and pick what products to sell you? ).
Sorry MS. You've done well by me so far, the 360 has been great and I use it all the time, but I just don't like the look of this.

You can turn the ads off you realise? I thought those were for the X-Files game since Moulder and Scully were clearly CGI.

People are going to love or hate this until the next console arrives.
Personaly all I care about is the games.
Cause as soon as you put your game disc in, the dashboard vanishes. I'd wager most people spend more time in game then they do in the dashboard anyways.
Hopefully I can create a viking avatar that brutaly murders everyone else's avatar. _________________

Seriously, this looks great because it takes Miis to an online/interactive levels. While Miis are fantasic, with Live you can take the Wii idea to a while new level. Check out the Scene it next game or the 1 v 100 for a good example of how it can be used. Home is looking more likely like a 2009 drop, so M$ probably will get the jump.
Yes, it is also making way for the 360 next for sure. _________________ Shin J Leon.
