TBH was a little dissapointed after all the hye at how graphic it was. Some pussy reviewers out there. Also I thought most of the characters were very two dimensional, but i was enteratined enough that I'll definately be watching this so I'll giev them time to flesh out. |
I never thought it was that graphic, just graphic for TV I supose.
The charecters do get fleshed out a lot though. |
Haha I laughed at this, an unintentional pun no doubt. _________________ xfire = andylulz

I meant it's not graphic in comparison to gore porn flicks like Saw or Hostel.

Depends on the characters to be honest, I actually found that a lot of the characters ran the same course throughout the first two seasons, there'd be the odd branchaway for subplot to evolve but then it'd snap back to original form. Even Dexter, through the thick and thin of it all reverts back to the same guy eventually. It's actually what draws me to the show because let's face it, in reality, **** happens to people, but it rarely changes them that drastically, and Dexter really shows this aspect of society.

it does get more graphic, but yeah, it's never really that excessive.
tbh though, i thought the characters were incredibly well developed. perhaps it's because i've read the books, and in that, they're much more 2-dimensional, but it kind of fits with Dexter's different personality.
in the book, Dexter is much harsher. he treats everyone else with almost contempt, as if they're insignificant, or beneath him.
the show's Dexter is more like Star Trek's Data, imo, in that he's trying to learn from them, emulate them. _________________

Book Dexter sounds like an asshole I prefer TV Dexter.
I always thought this show had a subtle, fantastical edge to it. Everything and everyone always felt a little caricatured and twisted. It's almost like you could take any one episode, turn it into a graphic novel and it would fit perfectly.
It's nothing too obvious, but I really don't think this show isn't trying to emulate reality as we know it. It's representing it's story through that fantasy filter and what comes out is a style that is unique to this series. I think that might be what I find so gripping about it. Maybe I'm the only one who feels this way. _________________

Aargh! I've missed the last two? episodes on ten, when I was really wanting to get into the series this time. I missed it when it was on Foxtel too, so I guess I better catch up before tomorrow _________________

Just finished series one on Sunday and absolutly loved it, watched the last 9 episodes almost back to back on Saturday night/Sunday.
It was one of the few shows which had an interesting set up that actually ended well, which is rare these days. I'm getting so sick of shows/movies that have a cool starting and you have no idea of what will happen next, then it turns out that the writers have no real idea either and you end up with some pretentious 'get out of jail free card' ending that ruins the rest of the show.
Anyway, looking forward to the next season. _________________

Given what you just said, season two might disappoint. I sure was disappointed.

Without wanting to spoil for others, it had an amazing setup, but a deus ex machina ending that wasn't even possible within the realms of the 'Dexter' world.

i was a mite disappointed by the ending for series 2 - and seemingly for the same reason as Nova Prime was.
(that said, i still loved the series.) _________________

I only have access to this Sunday nights on Channel 10 but it makes coming home from work a treat (then Flight of the Conchords follows it WIN/WIN) _________________

I was very impressed with the first season of dexter i immeidately went on to watching the 2nd. i am about 4 episodes in and am loving the direction it is taking. not sure if this thread permits spoilers so i will leave them out. Suffice to say though i am a little anxious for his well-bieng at the early stage. _________________

currently, this thread is for Season 1 only, so no season 2 spoilers please. (and even S1 spoilers should still be tagged.)
since we now allow talk on shows that have aired outside Australia, this kind of thing might become more and more an issue, especially for shows where the Australian air-date is soon after the US air-date. (like Heroes and Lost earlier in the year).
but anyway, this is a discussion for elsewhere. _________________

Does anyone know when the season 2 dvd's come out then? The season 1 dvds were out a lot earlier then the show started airing so I'm hoping the same for season 2. _________________

I'm a bit surprised that people love Dexter so much. I think it's a great show, and would put it in my top 10, but towards the bottom. Some of the acting is wooden at times (in comparison to other great shows), and yeah, I dunno, I guess I'm just missing why some people are absolutely blown away by it.
Still looking forward to downloading Season 3 in September though. Just not as much as The Shield _________________

I've been watching this show on channel 10 since it aired, but i'm strongly contemplating buying the dvds. What I want to know is; is it the sort of show you can watch through more than once, or does it lose its charm after the plot has been revealed? _________________
