Why didn't The Answer win here? Oh that's right he just didn't enter.

Still surprised he didn't win cuz he sure seems like the lucky type, always winning you know?

I wanna be the winner. Maybe I should just buy and sell all my games, i'll probably stand a better chance that way. What do you guys think?

While your posts accuse TheAnswer of, ah, winning i guess, they come across more to me that you are accusing PalGN of rigging their competitions.

Well I guess if Palgn actually did more to stop a member abusing the spoon system I don't see how it would be unwarranted.

How does The Answer always have so many spoons to 'win' these comps with?

There is no abuse of the system at all by me which is what you are implying, as you've mentioned before I sell a lot of items and sometimes I just accept spoons for payment instead of actually receiving money from the buyer. This is how I sometimes have had a lot of spoons to purchase items in the auction system. Also I do at times get pluses for my posts and as you should know you get 0.2 spoons per plus (unless you get negged by someone) and if you check my profile you will see I have over 3000 + ratings. Now this post is really off topic so I hope someone will steer this back on topic.

So you offload crap for spoons which you use to spend on newer stuff from this auction system which you sell for cash.

Look man I got nothing against ya nor do I actually care about this spoon crap but what you're doing is abusing the system because peeps who don't actually have a business like this on Palgn don't have a hope in hell unless you don't actually bid for anything.

Like I said though....carry on obviously some peeps would rather stay blind to it.

Dude like you I don't wanna derail the topic but honestly man I don't have anything against you. I think you're cool (as far as I can tell i don't think we've gotten into any serious debates where we disagreed), I think the stuff you put in the funny links thread are up there with the best the thread has to offer and I do see you offering some games for cheap.

If you must know a friend of mine was having a whinge about it to me so I thought i'd chuck it out there to see if anyone else felt the same way.

Anyways I thought about it myself a bit and it did seem like you had a little system in place that did make it unfair for some (read=most) but yea I don't actually have anything against ya. I don't respect many members on this site but I respect you enough to just drop it cuz well obviously i've made my point heard and again...I really couldn't care less. It was funny cuz a mate said it to me over the w/e and first thing this morn I see you've won like 2-3 comps sooo yea....it did kinda hit me hard cuz of the coincidence but nothing against ya dude.

Actually Ugh does have a point which is seen by the MGS auction (which I must say I was keen to grab and sell on as well). While most who are constant posters are floating around the 500-600 spoons mark, Jason came in at the end and stole the show due to his inflated spoon count due to trading.

I'm not saying it's Jason's fault or anything, but the system is a bit biased towards somebody trading a lot of items, regardless of what it is. A lot of the his spoons +'ed have also come free giveaways, which is fair enough.

But Jason does provide a lot of gaming content to the community at great prices, so really he is entitled to reap the rewards for his effort.

Long story short, I agree with Ugh. It's not Jason's fault, but rather the systems, like he said.

To make the system fair, I think Palgn should reset everyone's spoon to zero

Can we agree to have a 'gentlemans rule' in place where if you enter a comp, bid on an auction, etc you do so cause you want the game, not cause you want to on-sell to make an extra 40 bucks.

And duh, this obviously can't be enforced or anything but surely you find the concept of winning a comp/auction (at the expense of others who actually WANT the game) to simply on-sell, a bit of a cop out?

I for one don't enter competitions that i don't want to win.I won't enter a mgs4 guide comp cause.....i haven't a ps3 or need for the guide.I DID enter the wwe aus tour ticket comp way back in the day because i WANTED to go, and i did win, and i did go, and did have a blast with James and did become violently ill due to a suspect bain-marie hotdog.

It's not too much to ask, is it?

The question really is, if Diablo 3 is up for auction, will you bid?

Amen to that. I've lived by this rule for as long as I can remember. Entering a competition for the sole purpose of profit is disgusting and has sleaze written all over it. It's not right.

i agree somewhat with what jibbs is saying. i think competitions are for people who want the prize. having worked in the marketing and advertising industry for some time. i have seen my fair share of prizes given away and the difference of appreciation factor that some people get.

ive seen cars given away to almost indifference and then had the phone call the next day asking for cash instead. compare that with the person who wins a small cd/dvd pack and they write an individual letter to all involved.

i think that there should be a level of 'sharing' involved where cleaning out the auctions for every game available is a bit much and starts to get a bit mundane for most people on the forums. but then again, once it has been done, it makes room for other people with more spoons to have a go.

personally, i'm not a fan of winning something just to sell it, when there are people who genuinely cant afford the game and love the opportunity to win something.

i also like custard, but only with smarties in it.

Moral high ground in entering a competition you are most likely not going to win anyway? Please, what is that?

Competitions are fun to enter regardless and how a winner uses their prize is up them. I've been entering gaming comps for donkeys years(Offical Nintendo, Xbox etc, hell, even back when for the Cotties Megadrive) and if you do happen to win it's always nice. I've won games that I've played and others traded/sold others.

What I find more distribing is the current trend of trade baiting for JB and then taking copies to EB for near RRP price. This deals are great for people whom take advantage of this and finished/dislike/over a game after playing but when I hear of people doing taking 5x copies to make a profit makes me angry cause it will not doubt cause the end of things like this.

I can't sell something I've won, because I see it as kinda like a trophy, to show that I've won something.

If the person who bought Grid at auction can prove his computer can play it above 800*600 res I will be totally surprised.

If the person who won MGS4 can prove they have a PS3 I will also be surprised.

Taking advantage of everyone because the rest of us play fair is on the same lame-ness level of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.

I'm yes and no on this issue.

Yes: I think it's a great idea to reserve one game for forum regulars
No: I don't think it's fair that one forum member can rack up thousands of dollars worth of games while the rest are left empty-handed.

I think there may be two solutions to this:

1) Limit the amount of competition games a forumer can bid on to one per year
2) Change the forumer competition to something like a "post of the week/month" as voted on by other forumers.

My thoughts.
