I better finish NMH like a gooD little boy. I was hoping this would be one little sunlit corner of the Nintendo garden that would remain untouched, especially when newer games seemed to be precluded from the device anyway.

Nintendo is really ****ing me off lately. Forcibly removing Bongo Support from Twist 'n' Paint wiiware game for no gooD reason (I have 4 sets). Being tossers about wii storage issues and now coastering my purchases.

Yep its official! I hate every bitter teat from which I am forced to suckle the sweet milk of my amusement!

This is great, I am currently in the middle of a move and have had my wii packed up for about 3 weeks, I have been hanging out to set it up and get back into MK and Brawl but after hearing this I am seriously thinking of selling my wii on principle. I thought they would just block future releases not be pr!cks and block everything. If I had finished Brawl it wouldnt bother me too much or the american saves worked with the australian game Id sell up and buy the aus version but no sadly enough no dice. Does anyone know if we dont update it will stop me from using any of the current services? Id check myself but as I said im moving and my wii is in transit.

Aaaand this is why I'm not even touching a Wii until I can get it safely modded region-free. Way to hurt your fans who are importing LEGIT copies of games.. you're better off becoming a pirate at this rate (if it wasn't for the huge download sizes).

wait..you guys are surprised that nintendo just blocked a product that allows imports...a week or so out from brawls launch?

come onnnn, I could have told you this was going to happen..

and to those who mentioned modding their wii's, the update deletes saves that arent of the same region, so that takes out any way of importing, if the news ive read is correct.

*sigh, looks like im forking out the cash for brawl..

EDIT: saves are safe, it just disables a hack that was in twilight princess, which allowed for homebrew.

Costs too much, not enough storage and then they called me a Geek or obsessive
for thinking that way. Eff them. I'm giving my $$$ to Sony for a while.

You should still be able to play through those games at least.
New games that require updates wont come out for a while I reckon.

PAL Brawl might, but you've already got Brawl so they can't touch you.

It doesn't affect you till you update.

That being said, ill probably sell the Nintendo If Zelda isn't announced at E3.

I said this in the article thread, but I guess I'll say it here:

Yes it sucks, and yes Nintendo sucks for not making the Wii region free in the first place. But I could see this coming a mile away. The Freeloader uses the same exploit that people use to play pirated games. It's reasonable enough for Nintendo to close the hole.

I'm just happy I didn't buy one.

We all knew this was gonna happen sooner or later. Put me off from importing SSB and a free loader. Is there a economic benefit to doing such things, aren't they still making sales this way?

this makes them more sales, since it forces everyone to buy in their own region too.

To stop people from hacking the console. It seems like the way that the Freeloader works is very similar to a hack, so it got blocked too.

David: That's what I was talking about, but you made it much clearer. icon_smile.gif

Datel must be happy. Everyone will have to buy an updated version of Freeloader now. That or they'll give up and everyone will be screwed. I wonder why Ninty region lock the Wii but not the DS?

Copies from the other thread:

Basically, this update kills a method of piracy (called trucha signing), and unfortunately the Freeloader used the same method. It was stupid of Datel to release a disc that used a method that pirates were already using, of course it was going to be blocked.

Just to be clear it seems to both shut down the trucha signing as above, which stops freeloader, and also deletes the save files used for the twilight hack. homebrew seems safe, as the channel is unaffected and they've allready created a not yet released work-around in a few hours, but free-loader isn't working.

modchips - legal
freeloader - legal
importing games - legal
nintendo - wankers

the stupid part is the pirates will have worked it out by next week, so in the main, people using their legal right will be mainly affected.

Fixed. While what the freeloader itself does is legal, the way it does it is illegal. Please understand that.

it makes 0 modifications to the internal workings of the wii, not illegal at all. Illegal in their own minds perhaps, illegal to their profits when you only have to buy one copy, but to the law no, especially in this country. If you want to be a multi national corporation, then act like one, well i guess treating customers like dogs balls is acting like one.

sounds like the chewbacca defense to me

Can you explain how the way it does it is illegal?

Freeloader is legal.

It's like a guy walking through a secret door, buying a game and then leaving through the door.

Unfortunately that same secret door is used by thieves to steal games, so they closed it up.
