I'm with midnight burn. I'll get one when there are more games that I would actually play (I think the only one at the moment is JSRF, 'cause I'm not into FPS), and the price comes down. I'll prolly end up getting one around Christmas time.
Morrowind looks good (I doubt my PC'll be up to the PC version), Project Ego looks promising too... But other than those two, where are the RPGs?

If there honestly arent any games you cant live without, then waiting is sensible. So is waiting for a price drop. Thats all fine.
But credit must be given to Microsoft. If you compare its launch line up and console pricing to that of the PS2 at launch, it's pretty fantastic. HALO, JSRF, RALLISPORT, PGR, THPS3 and DOA3. $640 with a HD. Compare that to $740 TTT, Ridge Racer, Madden and SSX... mmmm
Whats my point? Well nothing really. Its just that I wonder how many guys that say 'wait for the good games and price drop' bought a PS2 at launch.
And the price isnt that far off really. The PS2 retails for $499. You need at least one memory card to save stuff so thats really $560 ish. Now I've seen the XBOX at $629 at target for a while. Assuming you dont want to use it as a DVD player (and if you like playback quality you really wouldnt use either the PS2 or XBOX for DVD) then we are talking about $70.
Of course the PS2 does have a larger selection of games and platinum titles. But then the XBOX is cutting edge, has a hard drive and if you believe the reviews, some fantastic software.
I think really, the XBOX deserves to sell better numbers here in OZ than it is. And just as hearing XBOX people slam the PS2 for jaggies, I cant stand hearing people say stuff like XBOX doesnt have the games and is too expensive. Cause it does and it isnt. It does have a great selection of quality games at launch. rallisport, DOA3, HAlo, JSRF, THPS3 are games that stand up well against anything offered on the PS2 (in their respective genre). In some cases it exceeds the PS2 offerings (HALO is clearly above any FPS currently available on PS2). Though there is a distinct lack of RPG they are coming.
Price wise the XBOX is very fair. If all you want is a machine to play games on, then the XBOX as Ive suggested above, lets you do this for a mere $70 more than the PS2 (and you have a big HD to play with also).
Of course what I hear a lot from people when standing near XBOX kiosks is "well it looks no better than whats on the PS2.." And if all you've seen of the XBOX is the in store KIOSK I cant blame you for thinking that. But if you have a friend with an XBOX, a decent TV with at least S-Video, you cant honestly play HALO, DOA3 or Rallisport and say you cant tell the difference. Cause the texture quality, the framerates, the antialaising, the lack of draw -in ... all this add up to some of the best looking graphics you'll see this year. Stuff the PS2 cant do. And its not just a few better textures here, a bit of anti alaising there... the graphic grunt enriches the gameplay as well. Maybe not so much in DOA3, which is mostly DOA2 but amazin' lookin'...but definately with Halo. The expansive worlds, incredible A.I, cooperative play, the warthog, the wide open freedom ....
I just think its sad the XBOX has alot of detractors right now. Especially ones that claim to love video games. Cause it deserves more
The more you play it, the more impressed you will be. Surely thats what you want from any console.

I didn't. Only got mine a couple of months back. I was originally waiting for FFX, but ended up caving in early so I could get THPS3, GTA3, MGS2 and Soul Reaver 2... Plus the fact that I can still play my 100+ PSX games on it also helped (got rid of the PSOne almost as soon as I got the PS2)
The price difference is more like £70 in the UK, which is a fair amount more out of your pocket than AU$70...

The fact that a lot of people bash it just because it's Microsoft isn't really fair. I absolutely detest Microsoft's business practices, but I am willing to give the X-box a chance if it can deliver the games I want. It is without a doubt the most powerful of the next-gen consoles, but I think that may also be it's short-medium term problem - it'll be a lot slower to come down in price than the other consoles, because Microsoft is already losing a lot more per unit sold than Sony or Nintendo...
Though it may have sounded like it, I wasn't suggestiong you were necessarily 'one of those guys'. Im glad to know you waited for the great games before getting your PS2. The difference with the XBOX IMO is that it already has great games.....
Yes, the price issue is totally different in Europe. I was talking Australia of course.

Why? Why oh why, if you don't own an Xbox and judging by the poll, most of you don't WANT an Xbox, why are you here?
Why are you posting on the Xbox board instead of the PS2 board or the Gamecube boards? Do you just need the attention? Is this a way to make you feel like your opinion is important, even though you've no grounds for posting here? Or are you just trying to be a pest and troll?
Help me understand, and convince me that it's not people like YOU that ruin these message boards... _________________ "Criminals are a superstitious and cowardly lot." - Bruce Wayne

Personally I'm here because I want to see the opinions of people that already have the box, so I can better judge when it's time for me to buy. I've piped up my thoughts on this thread, but I promise I won't be interrupting your reading on other threads with blatant PS2 fanboyism
seriously, if i had to choose between xbox and cube, i would choose cube, which i already have, as i have importd, the fact that a lot of the good games (eg. halo) will come to pc makes the choice even easier, it does have some good features and will have some good games, but ATM it is very pricy.
even tho ps2 was a whopping 750 just for the console, it had the market lured, so when the sony lovers new system arrived they didnt care about the price.
mainstream buyers wont really care about a built in hard drive and broadband and ethernet play as they are dumb and dont know WTF these features are, if the public was more aware of what the machine did, M$ would have sold more systems on launch.
Look at cube, it alloted 50,000 consoles to launch, and because of Nintendos established name, most of these 50,000 have been put on pre-order, this coming 2 months after XBOX launch, many thought gcn would fail over here because of the very late launch, but it seems that it is far exceeding the launch of xbox. _________________ viva la revolution!
phatmike128, if you recognise my username from the Gamecube board you'd know I love Nintendo and plan to get a Cube at launch.
However.
I also have an XBOX and I'd have to say I'm very happy.
True, Nintendo remains the only console with a big number of lifetime exclusives. Fact is if you want to play Nintendo games you need to buy a Game Cube, or wait 4 years for some decent emulation.
Having said that I think your suggestion that most of whats good about XBOX is coming to PC is unfair. Sure Halo's coming, but a year late, and I'll be damned if I buying a new beefy computer to play one game. Now I hear ya thinkin' "A HA, but why then would I buy an XBOX for just one game!!" Well the thing is I didnt, just as I wont be getting a NGC for just bloody Luigi's Mansion.
XBOX has a whole bunch of great games already out- JSRF, Rallisport, PGR, DOA3, Halo.... A line up that's far superior to what the Cube will be launching with here. Now, of course awsome games for the cube are coming this year, there's no doubt of that. But fantastic 'exclusive' XBOX games are coming as well, and I cant understand why PS2 owners and Nintendo lovers seem unable to admit that.
As you said, Joe Public is not informed enough to know what the XBOX's features mean, but most on this board are. Still, look at the POLL. Overwhelmingly, guys at this site have come here from the Nintendo and SONy forums and voted that they'll never get one. And its all about insecurity and fanboyism. Cause I've sat down with the XBOX and I promise you, forget the awfull kiosk at the stores, this console is fantastic. The software so far is of a very high standard. Now why would gamers claim they want non of that? And even if they dont, why would they come to an XBOX forum and want to tell people that?
Also, you said the XBOX is pricey compared to the Cube. Well thats true. Street price of the XBOX right now, you're looking at a $230 difference. But look at the XBOX specs. You get what you pay for. Also, after you fill up about 3 NGC memory cards ($105), the price difference doesnt seem so great.
