Ok yeah Bioshock on the 360 didn't have Direct X 10 water and I had to play it with a controller instead of a keyboard and mouse, but I got to go home after I bought it, put it in and play straight away wich IMO is far more important.

I used Steam, had it a day or two before it came out here, didn't have to go to a store, and could play it with DX 10 water icon_smile.gif

If one needed to buy a nice mouse pad, where would one look for good value (under $30)?

That would have taken my entire months worth of download limit icon_razz.gif

The shopping bag, environmentally friendly stuff that has a sheet inside does really well as a mouse pad (been using this one for 2 years now I think, hasn't faltered yet). And the "mousepad" with bonus bag only costs like $2.

My mousepad is some promotional one I found lying around my grandparent's house.. "TRANSCULTURAL MENTAL HEALTH CENTRE: FREE ADVICE ON MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES IN OVER 50 LANGUAGES". Only problem is it's a bit small.

Some of the free ones you find lying around aren't bad. Other ones I've used have worn down the teflon feet on my Copperhead.

As I've been a PC gamer pretty much all my life I've grown very attached to gaming on them. I never use anti-virus software because I don't get viruses and I can fix any problems I have on my own anyway.

PC can't be replaced for quite a lot of games however there are some games that just play better on consoles due to the control scheme.

I find that amusing. How do you know you're not getting viruses when you have no way of checking for them?

Well, I work on the principle that if it's not annoying or degrading performance, nothing needs to be done. For me, antivirus software saps performance constantly more than any virus. Ghost is all I need.

I do internet banking quite a lot on my PC. So I'm more worried about keyloggers and people going for my files than anything else. It's just too easy for a hacker to take over my PC unnoticed, so I'd prefer the protection, even if there is a slight drop in performance.

Also, I think most people here have generally had experience with Norton or Mcaffe. Just to clear things up these two are by far the worst internet security packages going around. If you like unintrusive programs I recommend Kaspersky or CA. CA is technically faster but you need to tweak some settings for that, so I prefer Kaspersky. The load it puts on my PC is negligible at worst, I can watch videos, browse the web and everything even when it's running a full system scan in the background.

I have always thought that some sort of dedicated gaming operating system should be able to be developed for PCs that could dual boot. Having a dedicated OS for gaming would leave more system resources available to a particular game and being simpler than a general OS, would/could be less buggy. This fictional OS that I wish for could go and collect drivers for your particular system and be able to set the best graphical options for any game developed for it. Sort of like an emulator except doesn't need another OS to run on top of and is built from the ground up to maximize performance.

I used to be a PC gamer...but I've kinda switched to consoles.

For me it's too much hassle/money to maintain a top-class gaming PC, when I could better spend that money on games for my 360.

I've spent a few years working as a tech in a computer store and it's pretty obvious to me when there are background processes, hidden dlls or any other nasties on my computer. I'm not here seeking your approval nor do I care if you believe me.

Biggest lie EVER. I love Mac Fanboys for this argument alone. There are more than a few macos viruses out there, just as there are viruses for Linux and Unix distros (both of which can effect mac's)

As for

Have been at LAN with a guy who had the EXACT same philosophy. Everyone else's PC started screaming when we connected him to LAN. We got a NAV boot and did a check, we stopped 2/3 of the way thru scan as he had about 300 different infected loactions, including explorer.exe (the windows one) system32.dll and system32.krn (Thats the CORE of windows for those that dont know icon_biggrin.gif) it ALWAYS pays to be cautious and have a GOOD av.

As for the rest of you with random reboots, maybe you should invest in some lessons or a IT course, i have built innumerable numbers of machines, as im sure MANY others have and only ONE has had a problem (the guy covered the PSU intake and it fried the PSU+Motherboard). Remember if you change the hardware and it STILL not working, check your peripherals and your software!
