I did a combination of on foot and gangland activity, I shied away from the stolen car missions as I hate chasing people down, it's too tedious for my liking.

The problem with chasing people down in the car is the crooks are absolutely LOADED to the teeth, usually all 4 or so packing ak's.They do some serious dmg, seriously quickly. And if you don't take the brunt of the dmg, your cop car does and if it blows you'd want another one near by quickly to continue on.

The cop cars seriously need a radio though, or even a 'police radio'.......thats constantly loops hilly billy chase music.Nothing would be sweeter then chasing down a criminal through some back alley at speed, crashing through pallets and boxes while a 3 string banjo medley blares from your car.

Note to self: Play Dueling Banjos on loop next time you jump on GTA4.

Quick question to guys who 100%ed the game, did you end up using the Guide to find everything or just sheer determination and hunting? As I'm having trouble even doing the 30 text cars (can't for the life of me find a golf course) let alone all the pigeons.

There's a golf course down south west of Algonquin. It's just behind where the bowling is on that island. I haven't been there myself but I've flown over it a few times.

I'm not exactly sure if this qualifies as a spoiler, but just incase.
--------------------
when you finish the story missions, you get an email with a link to a website "www.whattheydonotwantyoutoknow.com".
It has maps marked with locations of pigeons/jumps etc. That's what I used for a while, and it was royal pain in the ass.
Then I found a site which had in game pictures and videos of the pigeons and unique jumps.

-------------------
I cant imagine anyone finding all the pigeons without any help.

Oh, I think I got that email I just didn't bother going to the link, I'll check it out tomorrow though. I'll probably mark my actual map when I see it (in greylead, natch) so I don't have to keep coming back.

My copy just arrived today. icon_smile.gif I got the uncut U.K version. It's pretty good fun, the freedom the game gives you is great, you can go anywhere you want and do anything you want. The cops are pretty nasty, I've been caught once, they'll really hunt you down if you make enough mess. I've been following the story pretty well, Vlad is a bit annoying but he always has something for you to do. Michelle was easy to impress, and the Dual Shock 3's rumble gets some heavy use. icon_razz.gif It's surprisingly addictive, I played for 3 hours straight without even meaning to,

I used a guide for the pigeons and stunt jumps but did everything else without any guide. Some of Stevie's cars were rather hard to find, especially the ones that you rarely see in the game.

I don't think anyone should consider pigeon-hunting without a guide. It'll take you a hour just to find each pigeon and according to the guide i'm using, some of them aren't even visible (ie: you have shoot a rocket through a window to create an explosion large enough to kill it). I only found 7 pigeons w/o a guide during the course of the story mode and side quests, and at least 2 of those were only found because they appeared in cut-scenes for Jacob's delivery missions.

I just have 17 to go, but i know some i've already missed a few despite using a guide (just text descriptions with corresponding numbers on a map), so i'm gonna have to use a video guide too as some of the text descriptions veren't overly clear.

I found Stevie's missions fairly easy, but i also didn't know where the golf place was (it didn't state a suburb nor street name in the SMS) so i used a guide for that one. The only other one that took a while was looking for an NRG-900, and thats because i thought it was a car (the photo he sent even looked like a car, but it was very dark as with all the photos he sends). So after breaking into every car in the area, i finally hopped on the only motorbike around and that was the vehicle i was after icon_redface.gif

You just need to know you're car/bike names and it should be easy. You can always refer to the foldout map for suburb/street names (or just press Down on the D-Pad in game and the street name you're on along with the suburb will briefly appear on the bottom right of the screen).

Are you for real? That's so retarded.

I must say one small feature in gta i find really cool is the way baddies react when shot.I like how you can see they are physically still alive after you shoot them down in a non-lethal way(aka non-headshot).I like the way that as the last killer shot hits them they fall back and their guns shoots a few rounds off as they go down;makes sense that someone would instinctively tense up/pull the trigger as they've been shot.

Really nice touch.I do admit to having a morbid obsession with going around after a big firefight and finding those who are still writhing and alive, and calmly capping them in the head ending their misery.

And I thought I was the only one. Hell, sometimes during firefights, I shoot at the guys crawling away instead of the ones returning fire. Nobody crawls away from Nico Belic.

I'm using the IGN guide (text descriptions) and for one in south Algoqnuin they state to kill it use a rocket laucher to shoot into the window. However i just checked a video guide in this thread, and they used a method to get to it so that you can actually be a metre away from it (pigeon #137) icon_confused.gif IGN also mentioned using a rocket for a Broker pigeon too but i haven't attempted to find that one yet.

The IGN guide also stated to use a sniper rifle for a rooftop pigeon in Broker, but the same video guide shows a way to easily get onto the roof.

So it looks like i was wrong (ie: ALL pigeons are visible, if you take the effort to find them), and IGN's guide isn't as helpful as it could be. Although to be fair, I justed copied and pasted the text descriptions into Word so i could print it off, the IGN guide does have pictures too but i didn't print those.

It seems like the hidden packages/pigeons have little resemblance to what they used to be. I remember them as being rewards for exploring odd or hard to get to areas of the map. Now they seem like they're there simply for the sake of collecting things, and hardly as a reward for exploration if you need a guide to find them or can only get them from another area.

I came across my first random person today, Brian. It's pretty interesting how these people are scattered around Liberty City, and it encourages you to just drive around and explore. icon_smile.gif

I've had no freezing problems at all, the game has run perfectly for me which is great.

Highlights so far: Stealing a guy's car, only to have him grab onto it and get dragged along as I take off. I wanted to shake him off, so I drove straight towards a street light, missing it by centimeters and sending the guy flying. icon_lol.gif

Honking my horn randomly when driving a car/when stationary, you can get some funny reactions from people.

Damn, I'm almost 50% in, have a fair amount of story missions still to go and haven't seen a single random person. Not sure how people even spot them.

They appear on your radar only when you're within a few blocks of them, like little green men icons (think green toilet sign man). It's pretty random when and where you'll see them, so just keep an eye on the radar and you might run into one.

Hang on...you have to take all the friends to all of the activities? I've just been doing the quicker ones till they give me the special ability. I thought that was enough to get the overall game percentage out of them.

Yeah you have to take them on each activity on your phone that is available to call them about. With bowling, darts and pool, you must beat each character at the activity at least once. This only includes Brucie, Packie and Little Jacob.

Hmm...I checked my percentage, was pretty sure I hadn't taken Packie to the strip club, took him there, checked my percentage and it was the same.

I don't think Bowling was a selectable phone option for Jacob. So you won't have to worry about that for him.

Oh and this may count as a spoiler...

The third time you have to see Brian, apparently he doesn't show up in his third location in Broker for about a week game time because he is at rehab. I only saw that posted on the gamefaqs forums and not in a guide, but it sounds about right since I am waiting forever for him to show.

Looks like the Rockstar Social Club has finally started working again.
100% club area isn't as good as I was expecting, just a couple of downloads and links to print out some sort of certificate.

I wonder if they're going to send out those keys to all the people who did 100% it before the 19th, or cut off at a certain amount.

If they haven't given any indication that they would limit to a certain number of people it wouldn't be very fair to those who did end up missing out.

I knew I wasn't going get 100% before the 19th, but in seeing as I only have like 130-odd pigeons and 40 unique stunt jumps to go to get there, I wasn't far off.
