I'm getting sick of Nintendo. I have a Wii, and WAS thinking of buying a 360. But, would it better to just wait until the next gen microsoft console? It's a kind of stupid question, but it just feels like a waste of money to me, having two consoles at a time lol... :/

No don't wait. I think 2 years most likely. But i don't want it to happen all 3 are great as it is and the wii and ps3 do not have a large enough library of good games yet.
360 is the best one of them all tho and the best thing to accompany a wii. it has great games and a stellar online setup. i reckon get one now.

3 to 5 years. Remember PS2 lasted 6 years without the PS3 and still continues to sell strongly. And considering this gen is one of the most balanced in terms of what each console offers, I don't see any of them dying out in the next year or so. _________________

Yeah, it's a balanced generation.
The wii has wiimote, reliability and some unique ninty games
The 360 has a great lot of games, especially fps, but is unreliable
The PS3 will soon have a few unique good games and is reliable
Each has their value. _________________

From all of the footage i have seen from the latest PS3 conference, they are still pushing the boundaries of "next-generation games". _________________

No I would never wait, prices are always relative... - for example the prices have dropped to about $399 for the Pro console now since they first came out... if you were to wait you'd probably be waiting another 2 maybe 3 years for the next gen to come out. And by it'll be back to $650-$750.
If you can't get $399 worth of gaming out of the 360 in 3 years you probably shouldn't get it after all! _________________

Sony wants the PS3 to last 2 generations.
If they think they can do this, you won't see another Sony console till the generation after next.

Get one man, don't wait because there are some pretty good deals going around atm. Withsome of the games that you would miss out on (now and un-released), you would have a hard time waiting untill 2010 at least to play some games.
As others have said, this gen offers a lot of differences between the big 3 which is a good and bad thing. It means that you get much more aried and unique games, but it also means that you can't just have one console like you might have been able to in previous gens. _________________

The next Xbox probably in 2010.
PS4 in 2012.
That's my prediction. I'd buy a 360 now if you want to play some Xbox. You could buy a 360 now and still have enough to buy the next Xbox at launch if you started saving now anyway. _________________

Depending on the console. My information is based on ZERO fact.
I think the 360 will go another 3 yrs in PAL territories.
PS3 will do about 7-8, but probably have upgrades etc.
Wii will go 3 or 4 years, then a Wii HD will come out. (I hope) _________________

God I can't even imagine the next gen of consoles yet, this generation is still constantly blowing me away with what they're able to acheive. _________________

Definitely get an Xbox now. There are to many great games that are on it and still yet to come. You will be waiting another 2-3 years before the next-gen Xbox arrives and when it does, it will cost a lot more than previous gen consoles have, (Due to inflation).
If your worried about forking out the $$$ for it then just pick it up second hand, I did. Forget about next-gen playstation as it wont be out for at least 6-7 years, (That was Sony's original plan).

Having owned neither, having played all 3, my input effectively mean squat, but I guess I'm a glutton for punishment.
I would go microsoft if you want a here and now, but only if that's what you want and not get tired of it since it really won't have the market share of gaming, it's still focusing on core genres and interests you could argue that the PS3 would catch it up easily if Sony pulled their head in.
The PS3 is still potential and less delivering, yes they have a few titles to come which will bring people in but it's still substantially less then what one might have expected, making them the "if I won't get tired of it in the next 2 years" console since it's the more economic choice of the two.
But then again there is also the 3rd option of spending the money on improving / financing a gaming PC as you would, eventually get access to a few of Microsofts IPs as well as an uninfluenced market of gaming (as far as next gen goes) to then compensate for the now and possible future to then surmise a choice at a later date. Then again, I also got last gen consoles at half price, at Myer only because I could barter down the price and sweet talk goodies without having people think I was being cheap, so not exactly expecting a majority viewpoint here.

What they mean is they want the PS3 to continue to sell and be popular even into the next generation of consoles, much like the PS2 is doing now. They want the PS3 to be a strong market force even when the PS4 or whatever is out. _________________ phil@australiangamer.com

It just can't happen. By the time the PS3 gets to a fairly reasonable price WITHOUT losing more features, everyone else will have either a Wii or a 360. _________________
