I'm probably in the same boat as Itachi and doing something about it, while I do constantly go to the gym etc I still need to change habits at home, One of the bigger problems would be smoking for me, giving that up I believe would definitely increase my chances/speed at reducing weight.

If only Itachi lived closer, then we can skip on the treadmills and look towards a brighter tomorrow! Oh yeah, definitely helps when you have friends that want to tone or loose weight as well, at least personally I'm finding that having a friend attend as well for personal reasons to be much more.. uplifting? or something like that.

ye it just helps with a friend motivating you, also a proper diet is just as important as exercise, i know some people who exercise but dont eat well and some who eat well and don't exercise, and they both wonder why they won't lose weight.

Loss weight is a tough road and one which I have travelled down. The key to losing the weight and keeping it off is serious reflection of yourself and making a lifestyle change.

My university of 4 years resulted in a very poor unhealthy lifestyle of bad food choices and lack of exercise resulting weight gain. My upbringing cannot be used as an excuse as my parents where very healthy and bought me up to be the same. I became the only "fat" person in my family.

The real reason for my weight gain was laziness, greed and a poor lifestyle. Nothing else can be blamed in my case and I do believe it's true for most people. Excuses is a weapon for self-pity.

I lost close to 40-50 Kg (going from approx 130 to 80) and changed my life completely. It can be done and all it takes is self belief and willpower. It's certainly a very tough and hard road. The hardest being the initial stage of admitting you are REALLY overweight and committing 7 days a week to undoing that.

Keep it up guys. End of the day, it's worth your time putting in the effort and sticking to it. Once you've changed you'll never go back and be a much happier person.

Nice work Itachi, nice to see your getting to it. I am 16 this year I am still somewhat obese but I can't believe I've come this far, may not seem much to you but in the beginning of 2007 I was close to 120 Kg and just 15 I am reasonably tall about 185cm but still I wouldn't consider this a factor. Even though I had played soccer all my life I was still obese, though I'm starting to appreciate my training sessions and my participation alot more now.

I go to a school where its a middle-high class area, Id say only 10-20% maybe less of the school are obese. Back then I must of been the fattest kid in the grade, I would drink coke zero or something like that every day at school, and always buy lunch @ school. I'd probably have fast food maybe once everyweek, I'd say my biggest problem was I overate on the wrong stuff (I still eat heaps but not the bad stuff icon_razz.gif).

Worst thing was man-boobs.

Oh the self-esteem nightmares of having man-boobs (well the fatty types anyway). Anyway I'm glad to say thats all past me. Basically one day I decided "This is it." and like you guys said I made excuses for myself to not excercise, and seriously could not be bothered to excercise I guess.

So basically I just started going for walks, drinking water only, no softdrink, and trying to eat healthy (it can be really hard honestly). Then after walking I stepped it up to jogging every 30 seconds. And so on and on. It was really exciting I was getting fitter and fitter and now I am up to the stage where I can jog for up to 45 minutes straight, and boy am I doing well in soccer this year. I also started to weights about 3 months ago, and.. icon_smile.gif woot.

I now weigh just about 100kg, may not seem much but I look alot different, I am SO much more fitter and I generally just feel better.

Oh I forgot to mention something. Well basically I've been the obese fat kid all my life, and at the age of 10 my GP told me and my mum if I didn't do something about my weight I would die at the age of 30 probably due to heart attack. What a load to swallow for a 10 year old eh? Over the years I would occasionally get a few seconds or so of chest pain, I let it slide, but when I was reaching that critical 115-120kg stage damn did the regular occurances came. I was literally scared that I could drop dead soon. Thankfully to this day and about 3 months into regular excercise chest pain never came back. The closest sensation to that now is the day after a hard workout session on the benchpress. icon_wink.gif

So anyway for people trying to lose weight, I know its hard, I've been there trust me, even though you may feel really depressed and feel like things will never change, they can and will if you do something bout it. Just do simple things like, don't drink soft drink or anything else, stick to water. Start walking around the block or if your uncomfortable going outside a treadmill, take the doggie for a walk icon_razz.gif

Anyway just my lil' story.

P.S - About World Youth Day, I am definitely going to that. The pope is going to the race course to hold a mass, man a once in a lifetime experience imo, I will def be there.

EDIT: Whooa nice work LeonJ, damn alot of posts popped up in that time I typed this icon_razz.gif. I aspire to your achievments and hope to still reach a somewhat better weight.

I plussed you Leon - I think everything you say not only goes to losing weight, but whatever you want to do in life. I heard an interesting quote today - to get the things you never had in life, you must do things you've never tried in life. Its a lifestyle change.

And the thing is, you don't have to get a personal trainer, or be dieting with someone else - if you have the willpower to change it all around yourself it just makes it so much more rewarding and you'll know exactly how your body reacts to each situation.

I got into doing weights cause I wanted to get bigger, and I just took small steps. I've been doing it for five years - and all I have basically done is maintain what I had after the first year. If I don't do weights for say a month - I lose a lot of the strength that I gained and I have to use less weights for my exercises.

BTW - good on you Kikujiro - looks like you're doing well for yourself.

I think Scythian Reaper - the guy with the big guns would have a few things to say about a fitness regime.

The great thing about being fit and healthy is that you genuinely feel good. You feel happy.

Its so cliché, but its true, and its not just because you look at yourself and go “Wow! I look good!”.

Think about any time when you’re stick. It could be the flu, or just a common cold. Whenever you’re sick your emotions go down. You feel miserable, grumpy, and irritable.

Your mind operates the same way when your body is fat and unhealthy. Your body is forced to cope with an “unnatural” state. You’re supposed to be fit and healthy, and as a result your emotions suffer. You feel down, depressed, and lack confidence.

Once you get fit and healthy not only will you look good, but you will feel good. You’ll have more ups in your life, and little things will not irritate you as much. You won’t get tired and grumpy easily, and you’ll feel more focused on getting things done.

More power to you man, and anyone else trying to loose weight and get fit. You only live once, so live it the best you can.

Well Im obese, and like Itachi I am doing something about it. I have changed my eating habits and it's now on my 29th day without any drinks such as diet coke etc, only been drinking water in this time. I've also been exercising, such as walking as well. I've haven't felt this good in years. It was my decision to change my habits and I'm making sure I stick to this new routine and resist the temptations such as sweets etc and with my line of work that happens a lot with people bringing stuff in to share but I just politely say no whereas previously I would've had some.

Hi, I"m Mof, and I'm a foodoholic.

I have had constant problems with my weight, and I made a committed effort to tackling them back when I was about 15 - I went to the gym every second day and watched what I ate and I lost about 10 kg. Then I got too busy with VCE, and then when I went to Uni I joined the gym there which ended up being less convenient which resulted in me being more lazy.

So basically my solution has been to go back to my original gym and committ to going three times a week - and on the days I don't go, run for at least an hour. I haven't gotten off to the best start, and didn't get there at all last week as I was too busy filming (although I guess running with a steadicam for nine hours a day counts as exercise). This week I've picked up my game, and I've never felt better. Well, actually I have felt better since I also have a nasty cold which makes me dizzy when I lie down. But from a fitness perspective.

Nice work Itachi, keep it up!
Its great too see many of our fellow gamers taking it upon themselves to lose weight.
I blame convineince foods and all the preservatives and s*** they stuff in our food these days. If the stuff they put into the chicken food makes chickens fat, what does it do to us? I think eating organic food might help people lose weight, take the time to cook yourself a good meal, you'll be better for it.

Its threads like these that make me thank god for my fast metabalism, im underweight at 42kg for 14.

Great to see people really making an effort to improve themselves! The benefits are huge, so just keep at it guys, you'll end up as a better person, both mentally and physically. icon_smile.gif Personally I'm on the other end of the scale (I'm 19 and weight 45kg, people tell me I need to gain weight, what a laugh, eh?), but I can really understand you guys, you don't like the way you've become, and you're doing something about it. The best thing about being overweight is that in the majority of cases, it's completely reversible. icon_smile.gif Go for it!

Eating is addictive for sure. I love food! I used to be very fit just from playing sports when I was younger, I was about 75Kg. It was when I started my own business that I "didn't have time" to exercise and eating take away was just easier, and yummy!

Anyway, when I got up to about 115Kg, I decided to start exercising again, just running and a few weights here and there. I felt like crap for the first few weeks, but it turns out that exercise and working out is addictive too. After I got past the part where all my muscles ached every morning for the first few weeks, it only took about 3 months to lose 25Kg.

So yeah, my advice, start exercising slowly (I went for a jog at least 4 times a week but ended up walking most of it) and before you know it, it'll be something you look forward to.

I've still got a long way to go to reach my goal, but I'll get there.

I used to weight about 90-95kgs when I was about 15, I didn't like where I was headed so I just made little changes to my life.

I cut out on all the bread, I went for walks instead of some form of public transport and really cut down on all the junk food and stuff.
Because of that I now only weigh 77kgs or so. (18 now btw)

I know its harder for older people (esp those with full time jobs) to find time to exercise, and the will power to cut down, but you don't need to take giant steps. Just cutting out a little of that, and a bit of this and slowly working your way into a good routine is the way to go.

Regarding the topic, its quite disturbing how fat Australia are as a country are getting.

Disturbing indeed.

Good idea but be carefully that once you get your P's you don't get what me and my mates caller P-Plateides. We found that once you get your P's you just get lazier, you want to drive everywhere; just because you can, you start going to the drivethru to get takeaway; again because you can and cause it's quick, easy and cheap, you go out drinking and usually end up getting something to eat on the way home (McDonalds or hotdog sold by random guy outside club icon_lol.gif)

So while getting your P's opens up a new chance to exercise it'll also open up heaps more ways to be lazy.

And to everyone in this Thread tring to do something about there wight I applaud you. It'll be one of the hardest yet most satisfying things you'll do for yourself icon_clap.gif

Holy shit balls man you do need to gain some weight. My 12 year old cousin weighs about as much as you.

I can vouch for the fact that it can be hard to motivate yourself to exercise depending on your lifestyle. I'm not obese (last I weighed myself, around 60kg, and I'm about 5'10, which according to the BMI scale is supposedly underweight) but only because I have incredibly good metabolism. I don't eat a lot of shit food though... and I rarely drink soft drinks, I drink mostly water/tea/coffee/juice. I used to do yoga once a week with a friend until our instructor was no longer able to hold classes in the local church, and she hasn't found another place yet. And I was only motivated to go to yoga because my friend went. Basically my daily schedule Mon - Fri is getting up and going to work at 8, getting home by about 5:30, running around the house tidying etc until about 6:30-7, and by that stage I'm fucked and just want to relax and enjoy something.

It's a poor excuse (plus I hate sport), but I tell you what - if I could get a treadmill like Itachi I'd be on that thing a lot (good on you!) icon_razz.gif It feels damn good after a work out and I find within a few hours or so I'm pumped with energy. But yeah, I tend to not leave the house to exercise without a friend - it's dark when I finally have time to and not particularly safe to be walking around. Oh and I was on a gym contract once, not doing that ever again, put me in a lot of debt and I have too many other expenses. I seriously miss my dancing weekends, no-one goes out to dance anymore, they just stand around and drink which makes you put on more weight. Sigh.

I do need a kick in the ass to get more active on weekends. Half of you people who say you're obese are probably still more fit than me.

Dances, its hard for some people to gain weight due to their metabolism and I'm like that myself.

Its great to see the initiative by so many people to lose weight. I would assume that it is a very tough road to walk down as you completely change your lifestyle, a lifestyle that you have been accustomed to and have lived with for a good part of your life. But one things for sure, you won't be alone on this journey as family and friends will support you and help you get through it.

As many have said before, that in doing so you'll feel better about yourself and gain confidence at what ever life throws at you. Furthermore, you most likely decrease the chances of diseases such as diabetes, heart disease etc. and ensure that you live longer.

Like Itachi said, using your ipod or MP3 player while exercising makes it easier as it takes your mind off things, at times can motivate and pump you up and for me, makes walks, runs more enjoyable.

For those finding it hard to be motivated to exercise, try to find a physical activity that you enjoy such as a sport or go on small walks and gradually increase the length with each week. Finding a friend who is also on the same boat could also boost your motivation as you'll have someone to support you and to exercise with.

Yer guys awesome awesome job for trying to lose weight and keeping it off etc. I am in the same boat as some people here who was quite fat around like 4 years ago but worked to get it off and now am much happier for it. I weighed like 60 kilos at the end of primary school, and got payed out for it, not too much i guess but still a little, but now I am around 25 cm taller than iwas back then if not more and weigh around 50-55. I found what helped was alot of sports trainings, 3-4 a week, As well as going to weights twice a week in the morning, and on sundays treadmill running with a friend. I never gave up soft drinks, but i cut down on canteen food alot and instead brought like pasta to school and snuck into to the teachers common room and heated it up. Now i can eat fast food and stuff normally but i never have it more than once a week.

yer so awesome job to the guys here who are losing the weight and keeping it off. I would really reccomend buying a bike machine if you can because the cheap ones cost like $<100, they are fairly compact, you can use em while watching tv and stuff and they really get you working.

I salute all you guys making an effort to adjust your weight level, its always a bit of a touchy subject and its great that you guys are getting out in the open and bouncing ideas off each other for a healthier lifestyle.

I havent ever had a weight problem, although i was quite underweight. I seem to have a laziness problem that keeps me from over eating, I eat terribly which i need to stop but I only have 1 meal a day which is lunch and maybe an unhealthy snack in the morning and at night i consume whatever fluids are in the fridge.

So im probably reaching extreme unhealthy levels myself which i too need to do something about.

Keep up the good work guys and I'm interested to see how all your efforts work out.

Erm. I would love to lose my beer gut (which isn't actually there because of beer)
but for me it all comes down to being too lazy.

If only they'd make a video game which encouraged me to exercise with my family..

I remember when I was in year 6 I was pretty overweight myself (which is pretty funny considering how I look now) but my parents forced me into playing Basketball which involved practice three times a week and Saturday competition and after only a few years of playing I got myself down to the normal kids. The only problem is your metabolic rate slows as you get older and it can become harder to loose that weight.

Still I play sport fairly often and I try and live a somewhat healthy lifestyle especially with my eating these days (I can't stand Mc Donalds or the majority of the other food chains) but now I wish I could gain some more weight - I'm around 6 foot and I think I weigh about 68kg, I think I might get into weights again to help out - its just hard to see results because I still have a fast metabolic rate at the age of 20.

See Groovy I would of done that when i was young and little but Anxiety was stopping me icon_sad.gif. Every new thing i did when i was little i got a massive pain in the stomach and it forced me to stop doing it icon_sad.gif. Than i just got in the habit of watching tv and doing nothing. Now it's all changed ^^

EyeToy, WiiFit, hell, most Wii games get you up and moving. They're no replacement for the gym, but hey, one step at a time. icon_wink.gif

I'm 15 and weigh around 50kg, rating me as underweight. It's all to do with your BMI and motabilism. My dad got a shock when he was told he was overweight for his age, around 75kg.

BTW, congrats everybody for trying your best at getting to a healthy weight. It's really hard being motivated to not take the easy way out.

Yer i would never really encourage a video game as a form of exercise, but if its a small step to start why not i guess. Going to and then finishing a massive weight session is one of the best things you will ever feel, same as going on a 2-3 hour run then diving into the ocean after you get all hot. You get a real sense of releif as well as achievment for what you just did. I would also reccomend getting involved in things such as the city 2 surf eg: as those events although not helpful as a 1 off are more like milestones that you could look towards.
