The look of the drive tray itself on the inside.
There's also a Benq drive (what I've got, and a very quiet one) that looks the same as the Philips there but it's grey. _________________

I'm pretty sure the BenQ and Philips drive are the exact same thing, but yes, that one is the one to look for. The other two tend to have crashing problems and are louder - especially Samsung.
If you go to http://www.360drives.com/ you can put in the lot number from the side of the box to find out what other people with the same or close model numbers have, but it isn't very updated for Australia. Definitely want a lot number of 802 or higher if possible. _________________

I definitely have the Toshiba- Smasung drive, what significance that is, is beyond me. I could have a guess and say that one is the pile of shit old one? i dunno. anyway, on a brighter note the thing sorta works now...
as in it doesn't freeze while playing GTA. I just finish playing about 6 hours in a row and am not feeling to optimistic on the thing lasting the time it takes to finish this game. I guess i better start hunting around for a core system with a Ben Q / Phillips drive. (hopefully with a HDMI output)
Thanks both of you for your help! _________________

If you get lot 0800 batch Arcade or higher you are 100% guaranteed a falcon chipset and HDMI port - the drive is just a likely thing.
The Samsung is the second of the three drives Microsoft used, its not the oldest but it is the most likely to crash even when not defective and is also the loudest by far. _________________

I think every lot over 0741 has the HDMI port, but pretty much all of em over lot 0746(?) should be a falcon, as that's what my pro pack was (right down to the 175W power supply and benq drive) and I bought that at the start of the year. _________________

Just for the record this could be the issue that I'm having;

You know I can almost guarantee that problem is crappy xboxs rather than defective game code as with Bully. Its just a plain fact the Samsung doenst read as well as the BenQ so if they only used BenQs to test it like they did for Bully, they won't find this problem. _________________

I've got the Phillips, it's a touch noisy, but nowhere near the levels of my PC mere feet away so it's ok.

My 360 got the red rings on Monday night, just hours before I was going to the midnight launch of GTA.
Kept freezing when I was playing any game, and then finally three red rings, sent it off on Tuesday so hopefully get it back real soon, as im sick of reading the GTA manual over and over. _________________

My 360 has the folling issues. Disc read error, Freezing and RROD. Biggest problem is that after it RR it will turn back on after leaving it for 10 minutes and may not repeat the RR for days. The extend warranty is only for RR and MS told me if they can't get it to reproduce RR than they will send it back to me with a bill.

The Philips-BenQ *is* noisy compared to the PS3, Wii, PS2, Cube, etc. etc. but if you ever owned a Samsung 360, its a large reduction in noise _________________

Marka i would send the xbox in, they have a stress test dvd they use which pretty much throws the worst things the xbox hardware can handle.

Damn I love being a Nintendo fan.
3 of my friends 360's all RROD'd within a week of each other. One of my buddies just has a huge fan which he keeps right next to the console, all the time. It's hella noisy. Accidentally left my Wii on all day, when I realised, it was only slightly warm to the touch.
For what it's worth, Microsoft does seem to be doing a fairly good job with replacing them. I wonder how much richer they'd be if they'd made the 360s half decent in the first place.
Remind me never to buy anything from Microsoft. _________________

Just a warning to anyone planning on buying a new, falcon 360 - today I noticed that all the new stock my EB got in where 2006 units. Deftly, the console was in the box upside down so you couldnt check the manufacture date without opening it, but they had the seal on every box, and every 360 was the same. All had a batch number of 812.
Be wary of batch 812!! _________________

Whenever I play on my 360, it seems to suddenly be unable to read the disc, and on more then one occasion my disc has come out scratched like hell. What could be the cause of this?
I know that it was bought in may 2007 (for my birthday) not sure what model that is.

Yep, I have seen the same in some other store and you'll find that they don't have a hdmi slot. They're late 2006 models.
One guy told me they're leftover stock from Microsoft with the internal cooling fixed up.
It's not that big a deal to everyone though. Most buyers will still not have a hdtv with hdmi ports. They'll run it with composite or component to their TVs or vga to their monitor.

The fact that the 360 is an unreliable hunk of s**t as the topic suggests could be the cause.
Anyway, I've had no issues with my 360 since having it returned to me upon its first breakdown (which I actually temporarily fixed by literally roundhouse kicking it off the table then turning it on). But then again is it just me, or are other people really put off from the machine after it breaks? I've never had a console break on me before and it's seriously cut down my hours on the thing _________________

They lied about when they posted it.
I was looking up the article number on the Aus post tracking website and it was never found, I did it just then and I finally get a result.
It was sent yesterday and is currently in a town around 20 mins away so hopefully I get it today. _________________

My word, aren't you just so witty.
I believe he wants to know what causes the 360 to be so unreliable, genius.
