Apologies if this is in the wrong section, mods feel free to put it elsewhere.
ok, so basically all the GTA IV hype has gone to my head, and now I'm thinking I may as well buy a nice new HD TV to play it on. I've wanted one for ages, but I figure I may as well splash out in time for GTA so I'm going to buy one tomorrow I'm a total noob when it comes to TV's. I've done heaps of research on all different models, but I am still pretty confused and indecisive with a few things and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction..
Basically I have decided I am after a 32" or 37" LCD, as it's for my bedroom. It will be used pretty much only for gaming (360 and ps3) and I would like to be able to hook it up to my PC as well. My budget is around $1300 max.
With screens this size is there a noticeable difference in image quality between resolutions? Most 32" screens I have come across are 1366x768 resolution, which is 720p right? I was after a TV with higher res, but do you really notice the difference in image quality with a screen this small?
Also what contrast ratio would be good for these size screens? I found a Toshiba 32" one I didn't mind, but the contrast ratio was only 900: 1, which I think is pretty bad yeah?
Is there anything else to look out for in particular?
At the moment I have been looking some Sharp Aquos ones, LG ones, and the Sony D series - http://www.cameraworld.com.au/Sony_KDL32D3100_32_D_Series_Bravia_LCD_TV_p/sonkdl32d3100.htm
http://www.binglee.com.au/Product.aspx?id=2059
http://www.hifitrader.com.au/prod605.htm - was also looking at that one, as I think thats the one on sale at Harvey Norman tomorrow for $800.. for the difference in prices, do you think there would be a huge difference in quality?
Cheers

Below 40" you're right that there's not much point in getting 1080p - 720p will look pretty much the same. Most games aren't full 1080p in any case.
For $1300 you can get a pretty good 32" or 37" inch. That Toshiba is really bad quality for that price. You can easily get something much better. While I can't speak on other brands, I'm really happy with my Samsung which I bought recently. There's a pretty good 32" from Samsung here.
In general I recommend reading a few review sites before you decide on what to get. Try http://cnet.com.au or http://goodgearguide.com.au . If you can, also try to take a look at a few models in a store to make sure you like the design.

I paid $1200 for a sony bravia s or v series or something 2 or 3 years ago. its a 23" but it does 720p and 1080i perfectly. i didnt want something about 23" anyway because its for my room. but its great . check out the second hand market, and make sure your truly set on a 32" because personaly i think its too big for a bedroom and 23" or 26" is perfect.

I would recommend the Samsung LA32R81BDX 81cm LCD TV (which costs a bit less than a $1000) because it looks awesome. I would have gotten this if i hadn't bought my Sony Bravia X series. _________________

That Samsung TV James listed is excellent. I own one myself and it is by far the best purchase we've made this year. You can probably get it for around $1099 or less now. It has plenty of inputs and the built in HD tuner is also fantastic. The picture quality on a whole is crystal clear.

i paid 750 for 32" lcd toshiba at clive peters. Which is supposed to be one of the better lcds geting around, i didn't stop looking though for about 5 weeks, just do your research and make sure it won't have foibles that will annoy you later. oh its 1080i also. _________________ kill, kill, kill.....the white man. Most Sony and Samsung lcd's look beautiful. I have a 32' Panasonic Viera lcd and it is absolutely stunning for a 720p/1080i.
Last i saw it was around 1100 from JB or in Melbourne Panasales have them cheap.
