Sure, your parents may have been fortunate enough to buy your first console along with a Mario or Sonic or Metal Gear title, but there came a time where you just had to have the latest game, but you had to buy it on your own accord.
This question came to mind after playing Gauntlet on the XBLA a couple of nights ago and thought it would make for an interesting topic.
Forked out $99.95 for this bad boy back at the end of 1991 for the NES at Dick Smiths, after almost a year of saving pocket money from small chores when I was 7. Followed by Doom II for the PC whenever that was released.
So, what was that first game that you just had to buy?

It would have been Metal Gear Solid 2 and Grand Theft Auto 3 when, after saving for about a year, I bought a PS2 and two games. I sold my N64 and Sega Megadrive to pay for it as I just had to have GTA3 after playing it at a relatives house.
I was 13-14 at the time. _________________

I remember almost every first game I have bought on any console.
PSOne - MotoRacer
PS2 - GTAIII + Vice City Bundle
PS3 - MotorStorm
GameBoy - *Some Donkey Kong game*
GameBoy Color - Pokemon Gold Version
GameBoy Advance - Pokemon Ruby Version
Nintendo DS - LEGO Star Wars II
Wii - Wii Sports and Wario Smooth Moves
But other then them the first game I have ever, truly ever bought was probably MotoRacer...

I remember the first game that was bought for me as a 9th birthday present. It's a bit of a forgotten classic, which hopefully the cover should indicate:
The first game I bought myself probably would have been for the Lynx. _________________

With my own money? The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
As a gift, it would have been the original Mario Bros. along with my NES. Ah, memories. _________________

Super Mario Land was my first game I ever bought and probably one of the first games I ever really played because I got a Gameboy before I had a PC and none of my friends really had that much. The game came with a Gameboy Pocket which I bought mainly because of Pokemon Red. Very awesome time to be a kid. _________________

Action! Spiels of Action!
Pretty nifty side scrolling action/platformer. I absolutely loved the movie (and still do) and it was the demo that eventually sold me on the game. Looking back on it now, it's still looks pretty amazing. 2D art really is timeless.
Here's a completely stupid review of it. "(It) makes the Playstation look like a wonder machine!" _________________

The first game bought for me was given to me along with my first computer (A 486); A pack containing Sim City 2000, SimTower and SimIsle.
The first game I bought with my own money was Cosmo, I think, it's a long time ago.
The first console I bought with my own money was when I saved up and bought a Sega Saturn second hand off a friend. _________________

My first purchase was Where in Time is Carmen Santiago on PC. It was an awesome game, I would spent hours and hours just playing it. Definitely one of my most favourite childhood educational games. _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"
