Jeez - makes me wonder whether the Wii is just an expensive all in one emulator.
Aside from Mario, Zelda and Metroid, there have only been a select few games worth getting. _________________

Although the games they picked to launch are pretty good but would of been better with Alex Kidd in miracle world.
P.S. the master system had better graphics than the NES so for 500 points, it aint bad . _________________

Any idea what the sizes of the Master System games are (in blocks)? In particular Wonderboy, which will probably be my first non-N64 purchase on the VC.

Oh there will be so much potential for goodness here!
Does anyone remember Action Fighter? Luuurved it! I'll be all too happy to get my hands on the Sonic titles too. Sonic the Hedgehog for Master System was very loved back in the day. Psycho Fox, Rastan, Tennis Ace, In the Line of Fire, Blackbelt, Aztec Adventure... the list goes on and on. Despite how ownership issues pan out, Id love to see Asterix and The Lucky Dime Caper too.

While I would agree with you to a certain extent, half of the beauty of the VC games is playing average titles from when you were young.
Plus there are some beauties like Sin'n'Punishment which most western gamers never got to experience. _________________ Shin J Leon.

TBH i think we would all be in heaven if Nintendo started adding online feautures to some vc games. Can you imagine playing KOF 2002 online with your friends haha that would be great imo. _________________

Master System Wonderboy may be the cheapest version of it on VC, but is it the better/best version?
And I can't keep track of it (re-released under different names, from different companies etc.), but what are the other Wonderboy's out there on VC?
Cause i have yet to savor this bliss that doppelganger goes on about _________________

Good question. I would like to purchase a Wonderboy (simple arcade fun) but not sure what is the best verison.
Also is the Master System ports an abomination of a PAL port like the Megadrive/Neo Geo and various other titles? _________________ Shin J Leon.

For Virtual Console, you currently have two options: Wonderboy for the Sega Master System and Adventure Island for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
The difference? Apart from a few minor graphical changes, it is purely in name only. Both are ports of the Wonderboy arcade game, but seeing as Sega had ownership of the naming rights, Hudsonsoft simply altered the names used in their Adventure Island title. For example, the protagonist is known as Master Higgins in Adventure Island as opposed to Tom-Tom in Wonderboy.
As far as which version is better is concerned, I leave that to the resident expert..
*Drumroll ensues as we all await the entrance of Doppelganger*

^ thanx
But there is more than just the original Wonderboy on offer via VC...
Doppel tried to explain it to me once, but I'm still confused which is which etc etc
*waits patiently with S.Jaworski for Doppelganger to arrive* _________________

Almost all of the Wonderboy games have been pimped out like a slattenly dame on friday afternoon. Pallette swaps, reworked sprites and backgrounds have all disguised my hero for almost every game in the series. I love the original sprites, because I'm a SEGA whore, but ALSO because I think they possess a charm. ORIGINAL = BEST
Available on VC (unless otherwise noted)
SMS ORIGINAL: Wonderboy
NES REMAKE: Adventure Island
SMSWonderboy in Monsterland (unreleased on VC)
SMS ORIGINAL: Wonderboy III: Dragon's Trap (unreleased on VC)
TGX REMAKE: Dragon's Curse
SMD ORIGINAL: Wonderboy in Monsterworld
TGX REMAKE: Dynastic Hero
SMD ORIGINAL: Wonderboy in Monster Lair
TGX REMAKE: Monster Lair (US VC only)
SMD Monsterworld IV (Japan VC only)
My affection is for the Monsterworld series which feature an excellent jump and slash mechanic. The other games are platformers and shooters and not as gooD. underlined

The number of times the damn SEGA trucks knocked my poor motorcycle off course making me crash on the side of the road would be countless. But it just made it feel so satisfying when you make it and they grant the the awesome destructive power of rockets.
Then of course the take off, letting you drop bombs down onto the puny vehicles below.
It's 22 years old now but I don't think I've seen a game like it since. In fact I found having your shot automatically fire up made the controls tighter so I prefer the SMS version to the Arcade where your angle of fire was effected when turning.
A true classic.
\/ As my first console I have a lot of love for the SMS and by extension anyone interested enough to post in this thread. As it would be logistically difficult to buy you all a beer, I'm doing next best thing ie. giving out pluses and drinking in your honor. Cheers
