If I had to waste extra money to conform to some stupid countries rules (especially when these rules have dictated this in the past) then I probably wouldn't bother either. It's not Rockstar's fault at all....whoever is incharge of the shithouse rating system in Australia...it's their's!
It's cool I found some NZ special edition's for 360, might buy that now. Bit pricey for $149.95 but that's what I was gonna pay for the gimped aussie version anyways (before I knew it wass gimped of course).

Why import the PS3 version? Just import the uncut 360 version from the UK or NZ. Calm down folks, I know this is terrible but maybe it will motivate the gaming community to push even harder for an R rating.
Don't worry.....Just import the Euro version and sleep well at night knowing you're not supporting this bullshit nanny state OR wussy developers. Maybe at some point in the near future this country will move into the year 2008 and remember it's no longer 1975.

luckily i didn't pre-order, so i'll order the US version in or something from play asia.
I can see them removing the prostitution side of things again (which gives u a choice of 3 things you want the prostitute to do), probably toned down the blood and some other stuff.

Toning down the blood/gore factor would be pissy , as i have seen alot more games that have no worries unleashing bucketloads of claret on humans get passed worries me that the OFLC board is full of fucking imbeciles.
The OFLC need to cover ratings all with the same magic wand of bannage/editing/gimping, not just because a game is more popular than another.

unfortunately it seems to be the trend lately, either banning games with violence (such as dark sector or whatever it's called) , or in the case of the wii game, no more heroes; changing blood into coins
oh well i haven't brought a game locally in a long time thanks to STEAM and play-asia, and im certainly glad

Though this is it, you read the BBC article about what they see as adult material and it sounds like a stock-standard Grand Theft Auto storyline, shoot-outs, drugs and prostitutes. These are all things that have been in previous games. |
Some of which was edited out for the Australian release of previous GTA games. You'll probably find that only drugs and prostitutes were edited out of the Australian Edition.

I have calmed down a bit, and I will say that as long as they have not altered the blood engine, I will probably be fine. I never bothered with hookers in previous games.
But reading that BBFC thing about blood projecting onto walls and even the camera makes me concerned it will be removed. Wasn't blood removed from GTA3, or toned down dramatically?

as far as i remember GTA3 did have blood, but not sure if it was toned down or not (my copy of it has blood, i got it in the vice city & gta 3 pack)

-GTA3 only had the ability to pick up hookers removed.
-VC also had the ability removed but there was also part of a cut scene which was removed as well as the ability to take weapons into the strip club.
-SA was originally released totally uncut with the ability to pickup hookers and EVERYTHING else. When hot coffee was discovered the game was taken off shelves, the hot coffee was removed and the game was on shelves again without anything else removed.
Liberty city stories was released uncut and is still available uncut to this day, as is Vice city stories.
Picking up hookers in the AU PC version of GTA3 can still be done by changing the regional settings on your PC. You can also pickup hookers in VC by parking next to a hooker and entering the "Make anyone get in your car" code. The car even rocks and everything, exactly like the uncut version. Censorship just doesn't work.

I'm cancelling my Aussie pre-order and have just pre-ordered with gpstore.co.nz. After shipping, it will cost about $2 more for the uncensored version (limited edition) than the Australian version.
I'm 32, and I'm not going to be treated like a child by my own government.

Imagine seeing the statue of David, but they cut off his wang. I mean, they just cut off the wang, right? The vast majority of the statue is still in place, it 'plays the same' but is missing a wang. So it's still the same, right? WRONG.
What you're saying here is "I accept minor edits to a work of art so it's palatable for ALL people who are allowed to view it". Rockstar's intention was that you see the WHOLE game. They have edited this version, and GTA3 and Vice City, to cater for all viewers in Australia aged 15 and over.
If there was an 18+ rating in Australia, then you would have access to the FULL GAME. This version is not the FULL GAME of GTA IV and as such, no-one, over the age of 15, should buy it. At worst, there should be a 15+ version and an 18+ version, and only 18+ people can buy the full game. If you're 15+, it's the cut version.
The lack of an 18+ rating is an absolute embarassment to this country. I support an 18+ rating and I strongly support ENFORCEMENT of that 18+ rating by the use of fines and/or gaol time for those who break the rules/break the rules repeatedly (that is, companies who sell to minors over and over).

Hey I just bought it off Gameplanet in NZ and paid $178.08 NZ dollars.....any idea what that would be in AUS?
Anyways happy it's over and done with. The aussie censored piece of crap can suck it, I don't care what's cut cuz even if it's a single letter off a particular sentence then i'm not getting the superior version of the product and I pretty much always gotta have superior version, plus I like my sex, gore, nudity, foul language.....basically anything adult oriented!
