And if so where?

I've just started going again (bit old now - 26 but oh well I'm a guy and I look 20) and just went to Chasers last week for the Full Moon Party. It was an awesome night and the music was sensational.

I want to go to Eve Bar, there's an Asian (I'm Asian) night on Fridays.

And also CQ as well, I'm trying to organise for next Saturday.

Anyways I just thought I would start a thread for those who like to go out and have a good time and people can share their cool spots.

One thing that did annoy me though was that I was given the hand twice (speak to the hand sort of thing), I thought that was kinda rude, i know its a whole nightclub related issue where far too many guys think nightclubs are pickup joints, yet i didn't realise girls had resorted to this high and mighty behaviour. One time my friend and I went to sit down and I went and asked if anyone was sitting there. Obviously it looked a bit dodge like I was trying to chat her up but she just gave me the hand, so I just sat down and ignored her.

The other time, I went up to get some water but they would only serve me ice behind the bar, and someone who had one of those VIP tags got water so I asked her if she could get me some and she gave me the biggest 'you really are incompetent' look but got me the water anyways.

Besides that - it was good, some people will talk to you, but a couple didn't. There are some people who are constantly with their friends, so its tough to just go up and start talking to them. Obviously night clubs aren't the greatest place to meet people, but the other night it was just me and one other guy. I know the best thing is to go with a whole bunch of friends, but we went on pretty late notice and also we're kind of getting old and everyone is too lazy to go out and/or embarrassed to be going when they are 26.

Anyways just my thoughts.

Teach them to behave in the future hopefully, and not just assume things. Of course I'm 15 (never been clubbing) and maybe she had every right to do this, and it wasn't rude at all.

Asian night?

Like, is that cool?I'm not Asian but.......you know? That's a bit weird. That could easily be miscontrued as racism. Are Asians not let in other nights?Or conversely are only Asian people allowed in on Asian night?

Nup, thats shitty. If it was 'whites only' night or 'straight people' only night it would be a BIG deal.

Lets just get one thing clear dont you buttholes misconstrued that as me having something against Asians, my best friend since yr7 is Asian anyways, the point is where do they get off promoting anything based on something which no-one can control, their ethnicity

'KFC's Asian deal, if you are Asian you are entitled to one free upsize of your choice'

jibbs makes a very good point. but i guess an 'asian night' would probs just be a bunch of asian guys getting together and white guys and stuff who went would just be frowned upon,

but at the same time your right cuz if there was a whites only party and asian people were frowned upon going there would be an uproar. (a current affair?)

Most of my mates go to electro house type clubs such as Famous at QBH, CQ, TFU (Two Floors Up) etc but i don't usually go clubbing with them as I'm not keen on that type of music.

In the occasions i do go out clubbing it's usually Asian nights with other mates. We usually go to Lavish, BLVD, recently Se7ens and we've been trying to organise a night at Eve.

In the very rare occasions i go to Bubble and PHD as those places play the type of music i love. The problem is finding mates who want to go and i most instances i go with mates of mates who I've met at events such as Pharmacy or Hard Kandy.

RE Jibbs:
Its not strict rules and clubs don't advertise it like that. Its just that all skips, wogs, fobs and asians in Melbourne have an unspoken agreement of pretty much which groups of people go to which night at which club. Everyone's happy with it because everyone gets their space.

If you're after an Asian club arbok try Watermark in Docklands on a Friday night.

Quote:
And also CQ as well, I'm trying to organise for next Saturday.

Er, don't bother trying unless there is going to be a lot more girls than guys. CQ is notorious for being hard at the door and will bar you in a sec if a few guys walk up unescorted. Its a very blonde/aussie crowd on Saturday as well.

Well see that's different, if it's just some unspoken thing and a few groups of uni friends(who just happen to be of a certain ethnicity) start going to a club on a certain night and invite their friends along who happen to be the same ethnicity........then yeah, thats whatever. No prob.

The way Arbok came across was that it was like a 'ladies night' at a pub, where the chicks get half price drinks or whatever, fully advertised and targeted at a specific group.

Good old Arbok, as vague as a chiko rolls ingredients list.

Nope. I hate clubs. I severely dislike club music, and I really don’t like the atmosphere of “loud thumping music unable to talk to anyone”.

That’s just my taste though. I much prefer a nice pub, a few mates, chatting over pool and brews with the occasional live band and trivia night.

That's basically it... on the Thursday night that i went to Chasers, it was approx. 80% asian and 20% everything else, i think because the promoter was Asian and brought all his asian friends along. It never said asians only.

Well i'll go along to any night, i don't really care. But as someone of Asian race and someone who went to school with hardly any asians and similarly at uni where I thought the quality was really dry, its good to go to an Asian night if there's talent on the floor. I'm not trying to pick up, I'd rather be there to have a few drinks and just have a good time.

I'll have to drag a few female friends along to CQ then, thanks for the tip.

And as for Watermark, I've heard of that one and I'll have to check it out sometime.

Also Im kinda surprised most nights are like $25.

Yes that was me for the last six years!

Well I went clubbing last week and enjoyed it immensely. But a pub is also great. I think maybe I've become an alcoholic.... im going away on a four month trip in July so that will be the real test as I will theoretically be able to drink every single day........

In the heat of the moment, it really came as a shock, like a rabbit in the headlights type thing. Even now I'm not 100% sure what I could have said, especially if she's not listening. What about "Hey I'm talking to you (with an optional - bitch - at the end)." I'm kinda calculated in what I say - so I'm not sure how that line would have gone down anyway.

Not sure if it matters how it goes down... and sometimes all this analysis doesn't make a difference anyway. Its in the past!

Never actually been clubbing, but I've worked at a few. I know about Asian nights, and Greek nights, etc. I remember the biggest night at Twister was always Borlotto on Christmas Day, a greek night that really packed out, like in the thousands of patrons. It was insane, heaps of fun though, and you got some mad tips from the patrons there.

Reason why I don't go clubbing is I'm not big on dancing, I enjoy a fair bit of the music (mainly due to having to listen to it incessantly while working) but I don't see the fun in spending 15 bucks to get the opportunity to pay 7 bucks a pop for drinks. I'd rather spend nothing, and then pay 3 bucks a pop for drinks... maybe I'm just cheap though.

Can't say I really understand the whole clubbing thing. I'd much rather go and see a band or hang out in a nice bar. The Valley in Brisbane is a sleazy as hell sort of area (though pretty cool sometimes too) but judging on some of the 'clubbers' there it's a place I will remain keen to avoid.

^ Got to agree with Toastfarmer, I find it much more fun going to see bands or just hanging out a bar. Unfortunately most of my mates are into clubbing and if I want to see them each week I have to go with them - Sky Garden, Space (United), Arthouse are just a few of the places I've been to just this year. One club I would never go to is DCMs - that place seems to always be covered in police icon_lol.gif

My friends are planning to start their own event soon which is pretty exciting considering they already have their own connections and one of my best mate DJs also. So I might even be working at an event soon which should be good.

I go clubbing occasionally, but go more to bars and pubs on my weekends. When I'm extremely drunk I can get a kick out of clubs and love dancing (again only while drunk). I dislike the Valley though, so many metro's, it depresses the hell out of me. I also hate the crowds and as most of my mates are guys, it's very hard to get into a lot of places on some nights. It doesn't help that I am 19, but look around 17 unshaven.

I usully just go to local bars and then head to the local club afterwards if I feel up for it.

I went clubbing last Wednesday with my buddies. We go to the Edgy because it's local. The main thing that bothers me about clubs is the drink prices - $8 for a freakin shot of tequila??? Tbh I'd much rather have my friends over, sit outside on the deck, and work my way through a bottle of blue curacao.

Jibbs wrote:

icon_lol.gif That's so true. One of my friends works at KFC and is always recounting stories of old Asian dudes trying to use expired vouchers, or combine vouchers, etc etc.

The way to do it is to get mashed on the trip in. Down 8 Cruisers (or something equally fruity) within an hour of getting to the door and you'll be well primed.

I go anywhere and everywhere around Melbourne. Clubs, pubs, lounges, raves, festivals - wherever. Different groups of friends, different venues. It's not where you go, it's who you go with.

Unless you don’t like clubs.

Does the atmosphere really agitate you that much?

I agree with theory. Any venue can house a great night as long as you're there with mates. Sure, pubs are great but other places have their merits too.

Clubs? Yes. I don’t like club music. I don’t like dancing. I don’t like the atmosphere of clubs. I don’t enjoy myself at clubs because its not just about the people you go with, the venue plays a part. I’m not a clubber, even though I have friends that enjoy clubbing.

The company you’re with helps a lot, but the company you’re with is influenced by the venue. People don’t go to clubs to sit back casually, relax, and have a few pots. They go primarily to dance. This is why I go out to pubs and not clubs.
