| ugh the boot wrote: | Man i'm getting sick of this, called Xbox support last friday to arrange for my console to get repaired (again), go through the whole process, get given a reference number and gave them my email address and waited for the email with the instructions to send it back...2 days later still no email and I noticed they have deducted from my credit card another month of xbox live subscription when I specifically checked "NO" for automatic renewals....so anyways call them to cancel this but thought I would check on the email thing first and it turns out I haven't arranged for my s*** box to get repaired! WTF?!!! I couldn't help but start laughing. It's like the customer service is just as crap as the hopeless hardware they're supporting. Unbelivable!
Turns out I need to go thru the whole process again and give them my serial number etc....which I don't have at work so I gotta do all this crap again in my spare time tonight. I ended up just hanging up on them cuz I was that angry....didn't even cancel the stupid xbox live subscription (which is another thing they've screwed me on).
I just can't be bothered dealing with this crap anymore cuz in all honesty I don't wanna be supporting anything this crap! Other than exclusives this piece of crap is dead for me. Gonna pick up Army of Two on Ps3 later this week....no more 360 version for me....EVER!! |
This might be what happened to me... I never got the email this time, so I used the reply paid stamp from last time and stuck a note detailing my problem to the Xbox itself... lol. Anyway, today I got an email quoting a reference number that wasnt the one the guy on the phone gave me, saying my Xbox 360 shipped O_o
They also gave me this address http://service.xbox.com/servicesignin.aspx which seems to let you register for repairs without even using the phone. Could be good for you! _________________

If you used dummy accounts to purchase games (NZ account, US account - whatever) and you have a second controller then sign in the dummy account onto said second controller while keeping your main profile on the first controller. Doing that will open the game to anyone signed in at the time, as the account that bought it is also signed in therefore allowing you to play TMNT or any other game that you can no longer access. _________________

So I havent got my xbox back yet, but those who have kept up with my woes know last time it broke it decapitated disc 4 of Lost Odyssey and after three calls to MS I got them to agree to swap it if I sent in just that disc....
Well I got disc 4 back today, yay. New one too. I also got Disc 1.... and 2.... and 3. And the manual..... and the....box O_o
So basically, I received a factory sealed copy of the game. Strangely though it is a PAL version and has Australian info on the box, the OFLC ratings are nowhere to be seen... the cover art just continues down. :O
Edit: I just got my old Xbox 360 back. As expected there's no way to tell just by looking it if they actually fixed it, but I'd say not. Only way to tell is to put in Disc 4 of Lost Odyssey, and like hell thats happening XD To the cupboard with you old Xbox 360. To the cupboard where you shall remain for all time! _________________

I have been through 4 Xbox 360s now. I don't know why I bother.
The one I have now has three extractor fans on it, in an air conditioned environment with plenty of room to breathe. It runs cool to the touch and I bet you it will still red ring of death. Every six months...why bother?

Yeah I had the same problem as you Ugh when I was waiting for my email. I had to chase them up it was rather fustrating. I *HATE* foriegn calls centers with a pashion. The lanuage barrier makes things harder then it needs to be and they just run off script. You feel alienated as they aren't even in the same country as you.
While the call center is a problem, other then that the service is rather good. You should get your 360 back within a week of sending it off. And it's all free. I can't believe you second Xbox broken down. It's almost like the Xbox god's hate you.
My second Xbox has been more reliable then my PS3 (never frozen once and is generally less noisy). _________________ Shin J Leon.

a mate of mine got his XBox back for the third time last Friday.
and got an RROD straight out of the box.
funny thing was, it was actually sent off because the Disc Drive wouldn't open any more. he could do everything else (even play COD4, because it was trapped in the drive) but couldn't open the drive.
so i guess that tracks to 3 RRODs and a buggered disc drive.
he knows it's a different unit also because his old console had a glossy finish to the HDD and those panels, whereas the "new" one has a matt/powdered finish.
he did also get a replacement COD4.
but the real amusement came when ringing their support line to get this registered. he forgot to take all the information with him to work, so they said he'll have to ring them back, he asked when they close, the guy said 7pm.
"Eastern time or Western time?"
"just 7pm"
"i get that, but i'm in WA, which is 2 hours behind the Eastern States. i don't get home from work until around 7pm EDST, so i want to know if it's worth rushing home to get in before you close, or if you'll still be open because you close at 7pm WDST instead."
"i don't understand your question."
he just hung up and says he'll ring tomorrow instead.
strangely though, this was an American operator, not Indian or Australian. _________________

Sometimes they sound American because the learn english from American people. It's like in Japan, if one class is taught by an English person they pick up a English accent and if one is taughty by American they pick up that accent. Happens in Europe a lot too. Pretty weird hey.

oh, i know that happens.
when i was learning German at high school, we were taught by a Scottish woman, and when it came time for exchange, we'd be asked why we were speaking with a Scottish accent.
it amused the Germans no end.
you could be right, though you can usually tell the difference between a native speaker, and an ESL person. i guess i've only heard the story second-hand too, so there is a possibility you're right. _________________

The times I've rung the MS support centre it's sounded as though they're based in the Phillipines, which is under a strong influence of American English so that could explain the above. _________________

Exactly what I was going to say. The last time I rang Microsoft I thought I was talking to Americans but they ended up being from the Phillipines. They were alot easier to understand than the Indian support center though so I wasn't complaining heh. _________________

All three times I called I got what sounded like chinese people impersonating americans. Very strange. Two different men and one woman, all with the same bizarre accent. _________________

I have always thought that is amazing, my in-laws are from leeds and that is a pretty amusing accent and my best mate is from sussex so thats a totally different accent again. In Aus there are different accents. In QLD we say it all a bit more pronounced but down south they speak the queens english a lot better. they say SAmple and we say saaaample. Not really sure if that makes sense in type but one did try ones best. Always found it more interesting in England though, you can drive down the road and the accent has changed haha.
Peace

I don't think that the difference between pronounciation in each state is big enough to call it a completely different accent. If I took 100 Australians and got them all to read the same sentence, I doubt you'd be able to pick their state of origin. _________________

My Xbox 360 heated up in the period of half an hour so bad that when I played a DVD, it turned black and white... after I let it cool off the colour returned.
Is that okay? _________________

That's just weird... That's all I have to say. Utterly bizarre. I don't know what to say to you XD
Either it was in fact the cable that was defective, the DVD was actually black and white, it was an NTSC DVD and your TV can't handle it or the 360 got so hot it warped its video plug.
I have no idea. _________________

So... damn... Angry....
Went to midnight launch, got GTA stuck it in my xbox started playing and freeze. used to happen all th time. restarted the xbox made a new game froze at a different point then RROD (3 red flashing lights?) wont turn on without these lights flashing no display AT ALL! This is fucking stupid its 7:30 in the morning and instead of missing Uni to play GTA, Im missing Uni trying to work out how i get Microsoft to fix this. (its my first time).
Gah! on release of such an epic game too! all i wanted was to play it all day!
EDIT:
Its now 'working' again except it freezes and looks like GTA is running at relatedly low resolution, i did some reading and found out that even though its 'working' its not working it will at some time RROD permanently.
anyway, what the hell do I do? _________________

It sounds to me like your problem is the disc drive, and its "working" but not fast enough - i.e. it can't load the data on the disc fast enough to render the higher resolution textures so you're being stuck with the quickloading ones that are supposed to get replaced after a split second.
One of the first things I noticed with mine was in Saints Row, it would occasionally stop loading, and I'd drive onto nigh textureless regions of the city, then it would crash later. Then my Xbox crashed on everything.
Call Microsoft, tell them its stuffed, and insist they repair it. If its not under warranty anymore, you'll have to wait for the RRoD _________________

that sounds pretty much right as it never has read disks well. Its sooo annoying trying to trouble shoot this crap, can i ask for anyone who has had to have a DVD-rom replacement in the xbox 360 how much it cost out of warranty? Thinking i might buy a core system so i dont ever have to bother with RROD or DVD errors again. (my xbox is old old)/ dont the new xbox's have some new processor that means they dont get the RROD? _________________

I sent my Xbox in twice for the problem I was having with the disc drive and both times it came back unfixed, they said they couldnt find a problem, so it was essentially a "We dont care about you" sort of thing.
I ended up buying an Arcade for $400 which had the new chips and DVD Drive and I havent had a single problem since. Not all new 360s have the new DVD Drive, but *most* do. _________________
