Damn, they put the price back up to a completely unreasonable $49.95, so I had to pay nearly $41 dollars.
I'm joking of course, but it saves me from buying a Toshiba player from Amazon for $80 + $40+ shipping + $50+ for a stepdown converter. (Although it also saves me from the seven free DVDs through doing it that way.)
Now all I need is a 360 or BootCamp on my Mac.

Um, you don't own a 360? That at least another $400. Given what you mentioned about the Toshiba player + extras, that sounded like the better deal Am I missing something here? _________________

^ to my knowledge, you can get the HD DVD add on to play on PC's. If he has a PC with Vista it will work and i think you can get it to play on XP via instructions on the web _________________

Okay need some clarification here - a 360 by-itself with no HD-DVD drive upscales DVDs over component right? (or is it just HDMI/VGA?)
If not.. does it upscale DVDs with a HD-DVD drive over component? If so I'm all over that $40 HD-DVD drive. _________________

Passa - from what i have heard the 360 only outputs dvd's at 480p both with or without the HD DVD add on when using component cables but both can upscale if you use HDMI or VGA _________________

EzyDVD's got some even cheaper titles (and a lot of more expensive ones) for pre-order, including BSG and Heroes S01s for $30.

$10 HD DVDs |
To add to that i emailed them to see whether they will be getting movies in stock or not.
Original email from me:
"I'm interested in purchasing several HD DVD movies that you have on sale for $9.95 which all say Pre-order release. However with the recent demise of the HD DVD format i was wondering whether you will receive stock of these movies, if yes does that include all movies or have they already been sold out and you will not be buying new stock?"
Reply from dvdownunder.com.au:
"We did a final check with our supplier just before closing and were told that they are pretty sure that all stock we ordered today to be fulfilled.
We have also over-ordered in anticipation of more orders tonight and tomorrow. In saying that we highly recommend orders be placed asap, as we know that stock is limited and seeing as stock that we've ordered in is on a first come first serve basis for retailers we're following the same process with our own customer orders (regardless of their payment method)."
So for those of you who have missed out on some titles from other websites, try giving these guys a go. _________________

For people that missed out on getting the HD-DVD addon for sub $50 at dvdcrave and dstore, I've read on a few websites that JB Hi-Fi have now reduced the price of the HD-DVD addon in their bricks and mortar stores to sub $50, prices are $47 or $48 depending on the actual JB Hi-Fi store. _________________ RIP Buddha 19/10/1952 - 03/01/2004

Seems like dstores cheap HD-DVDs might not all be sent as the HD-DVDs I ordered on saturday were all in stock at the time of my order but have not shipped as of yet although the HD-DVD addon I ordered on Monday has shipped already. Just called them up and they said the movies have gone on back order to which I replied "would've been nice to be informed of the change in status" and got a rude reply from the monkey on the phone so asked him to cancel the order which he promptly did. Now wonder how long it will be until I get my money back. Im not going to settle for dstore credit, if no refund by early next week I'll have to contact paypal. _________________ RIP Buddha 19/10/1952 - 03/01/2004

I find that JB are by far the cheapest for CD's. I don't know where you live, but Rockinghorse Records in Brisbane always has a really wide range of fantastic CD's for $9.95. I really need to hit them up more often.

Your best bet are the little cd shops scattered around the cities, while it's a bit hit and miss on what you'll find, it's pretty easy to walk out of one with a bagful of cds that cost you next to nothing (like, 5-10 dollars a cd) the Dirt Cheap stores are great for this. I know they're in Melbourne, dunno about the other states.

Yeah there's a Dirt Cheap CDs store in Perth - it's next to the new EB in the city (i think it's City Arcade - i can never remember which one is which, but the one next to Carillon Arcade - same level as the food court.)
they're pretty good, but oddly we don't have a great deal of CD stores that are both good, and cheap. 2 excellent stores are 78 Records and Dada's Records. both have really good selections, but both aren't really on the cheap side of things.
if there are others in Perth i should know about, i'd love to hear about them, but my record shopping is mostly JB Hifi, DCCDs, 78s and Dada's. _________________

Yup, been there, good little store. Got a sealed copy of the first Tenacious D album for $10. I was actually looking for the second one in there, I was never intending to get their first album. As of now, I'm so freaking glad I got the album for $10. _________________

It's a pity Amazon's international shipping has gone up so much.
Bullitt, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and a few more I haven't ordered are $8 at EzyDVD now, until midnight, or more realistically until ~8am tomorrow.
