I was waiting to see if anyone else would join. How long does everybody need? Is the 16th Februrary an OK date for round 1?? _________________

hey just to actually explain what i was talkinh bout earlier i was refering moves that are specifically used to cause a stat effect eg (as in if they hit they cause an effect)
sleep powder
poison powder
thunder wave
hypnosis
(there are others i cant be bothered looking them all up)
does this clarify?
so using moves like ice beam and thunderbolt which have a slight chance of causing an effect would be legitimate
:0 does that seem fair?
so only u cant use thunder wave to para more than once but u can thunder wave switch out and sleep powder another poke?
i see that as fair...

Look, lets go with official rules.
Sleep clause and freeze clause ONLY(paralyse doesn't count, it can POTENTIALLY cripple a pokemon but the keyword is POTENTIALLY.I've had a paralysed pokemon get through it's moves at least half a dozen times in a row before missing a turn).
Now, taking that into account, NO sleep or ice inducing moves are barred. This includes hypnosis, sleep powder and even immediates like spore(100% guaranteed sleep).I don't think there is a move that causes freezing without attacking as well.
The catch is that as soon as ONE of the opposing pokemon has been inflicted with sleep OR freeze, you can no longer sleep OR freeze another of the opposing pokemon until said pokemon has been fainted.
Now, accidentals can never be ruled out.Say if i spore your pikachu, you switch the now sleeping pika out for a fresh charmander with no status effect and then i use ice beam and then charmander is frozen.....well.......shit happens.I got lucky, you got very, very unlucky.
What i'm trying to say is that ATTACKING moves that have a secondary chance of inflicting either sleep or freeze as a status effect(like ice beam sometimes freezing and.......errr........is their a move that has sleep as a secondary chance effect???) are still allowed even AFTER an oppsoing poke has fallen to either sleep or freeze.
I think that is fairly clear. This is a big deal, if not, everyone would have a spiritomb or breloom on their team wiping out the other team of 6 in one fell sweep.(spiritomb almost never goes down in one hit, can sometimes survive two, as it is not weak to any move, and then can let off a hypnosis for an almost guaranteed sleep. While breloom can spore, then focus punch to its hearts content).
So thats it.
Only FREEZE and SLEEP clause are in effect, para, confusion, poison, all that other crap is ok to spam. You can thunderwave the entire opposing team of 6 if you so wish, but it will be done to your detriment, as i said before, paralysing is a gamble and NOT a guaranteed checkmate like sleep or freeze. _________________

Agreed with the talk about only Sleep and Freeze being disallowed, Jibbs (though one could argue back against Paralysis: "but it does have a guaranteed cripple - the drop in speed" but to that I say we're only limiting the absolute worst scenario, widespread total immobilization. For the rest, use strategy.)...
but
1. the combination of Sleep+Freeze is allowed by both our rules ("You can sleep one pokemon and freeze another") and the official rules in Stadium 2 (OK, so I haven't seen any other official rules since then ).
2. if it's OK to inflict Freeze as a side effect, the Freeze part of the clause is meaningless, because AFAIK there's no move that freezes 100% of the time - Freeze is always inflicted as a side effect.
Edit: My solution is to completely bar multiple Sleep or Freezes (but not the use of Freeze-causing moves like Ice Beam when Pokémon are frozen), and if they do occur, the opponent is entitled to a rematch at the moment of it happening. If they continue battling they void their right to a rematch.
Edit2: And if it happens a second match in a row the opponent is additionally entitled to force a forfeit on the other player, so this doesn't go on forever _________________

Yep, I agree on the Sleep, Freeze and Parra discussion. I'm going with Jibbs and banning the use of moves that only inflict either Freeze or Sleep on more than one pokemon. (Unless the frozen/asleep) pokemon either wakes up or faints).
Paralysis is OK, as is posion, confusion, attraction and burning, you can use that to your hearts content. (But it is a bit cheap). _________________

I'm not sure what we are going to do with the current numbers for the tournament. Ideally, we could get six more people and have in perfect like last time, but otherwise, someone gets a by or we could have a points based tourney this time.
Because of this, I am pushing the starting date back to the 23rd Februrary. _________________

Okay only if we get 6 more peeps will this go forward...
One question though, with the species clause, does that limit 'types' (like fire, water etc.)? Like is it ok if you have 2 pokemon with the same type in your group of 6? _________________

That's great! The only querry I have is how far are you into the game? As everyone else in the tournament has already finished, we obviously have a far greater selection of pokemon for our teams and fully evolve them.
If you have any questions about the rules, PM me and I'll explain it more thourougly. _________________

Im not all that far. Im up to the city were you use honey on the trees or something like that. I have a few pokemon about 10. My strongest one is this monkey guy.
But he is only up to about level 22. And the others are only from lvl 3 up to 8. So i guess i would be coming into it with a poor chance of winning a match. But im cool with that.

Nar thats cool mate. I really appreciate that though. Im happy to put the work into getting my pokemon to higher levels like you guys did, instead of taking somebody elses. Once again thanks mate. If i make it into the tournament i will just use it as a practice, and hopefully if there is another one in the future i will be more ready.

Yep. One of my friends got a second hand game and the person that had it last had obviously cheated with action replay. he gave me a couple around then i was only at lvl 15-18 pokemon. we had a battle and they listened fine.
Is the 23rd a friday? or saturday? cause they're the only days i have free. _________________ "If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you."
