Anyone know how I would go about capturing game footage from my PS3 into a video that I could then upload onto You Tube? I just have some funny saved replays on games and stuff that I wouldn't mind showing people.

I'm pretty sure only development consoles can do that, and they are extremely hard to find. The only people who have dev kits capable of recording footage are major review sites like Gamespot and 1UP, game developers, and Sony themselves. _________________

Brad...if you could get a cable to convert HDMI to something else...? or you could use the rca connectors to go straight into an analogue capture card/device you could do something that way....I dunno about the HDMI though...it's plausible but would probably be fairly exxy as there isn't a very big call for consumer level video capture based on DVI or VGA or HDMI...alllllthooough...that's right..there is a card you can get called Black Magic which will capture from HDMI direct....from what I recall your wallet won't love you for it I'll do some poking around and see what I can find...from what I recall of this it is a card-only option, no USB/Firewire version.... _________________ "A learning experience is one of those things that says 'you know that thing you just did? Yeah...looking at about $400AUD for the privilege of capturing direct from your PS3 via HDMI...so probably the RCA option is best :S _________________ "A learning experience is one of those things that says 'you know that thing you just did? Don't do that'"

Although a HDMI cable would be great and all it is pretty much useless unless you are uploading at least 720p video. I capture a lot of video for video content for my blog and RCAs are fine.
So, what you need is a capture card and software to capture video. Most electronics stores like Dick Smiths should sell capture cards. I'm not sure about price as my capture card came free with a laptop.
Although I don't use it myself (I use software that came with my card) I have heard great things about DScaler which you can use to capture the video with your capture card. _________________

^ Great minds think alike. Can't do it though, don't have a camera.
Can someone link me to some sites that sell "cheap" capture cards...? I'm not sure exactly which ones would be the correct ones to use and such.
Could it also be possible to buy a cheapish DVD recorder and just record the video onto DVD then rip it onto the computer or something?

yeah, that should be fine
just put the rca cable from the ps3 into the input of the dvd recorder and record from its AV channel. its just a lot of messing around with dvds etc. but its the cheapest way.

Hmmm...it would be more convient if you bought a PVR(personal video recorder) as it records to a hard drive instead of a disc. But that wouldn't be even more expensive. If you were going to buy a recorder (DVD or not) it would still cost you plenty of money(probably 3x the price for a capture card, at least). So you are better off with the capture card.
Try Dick Smiths or cruise around for an online store over at eBay. That'd be your best bet. Dick Smiths/Harvey Norman/any other electrical retailer would be the best place to go as if the doesn't work (ie your computer can't do it or something) then you can take it back. Just check the return policy before you buy.
As for the correct one to buy, you'll want one that is compatible with DScaler, there should be a list on their site. DScaler is meant to be the best software to use. _________________
