Well I just got my ENTER: 78.75. Not great but it's high enough to get me into my course.
The only thing I'm really ticked off about is that I got B B C+ in Literature for a raw score of 26 and yet I got C+ B C+ in Chem and got 28 raw. WTF!? _________________

And apparently Biol Exam 1: A+
Biol Exam 2: A+
Study score = 38
so... f*** you VCAA! |
VCAA are a bunch of dogs. You getting a study score of 38 (is that raw or scaled?) might have to do with the school you go to. Do you go to a public school and one that I guess doesn’t produce a large amount of students who get 90+. If that’s the case they dodged you off based on the fact you came from an average school as opposed to going to a school that has a large no of students who get 90+ and all do good.
That’s why I think the VCAA’s system is flawed. We all do the same curriculum, do the same SAC’s, study the same books, we get graded the same or at least about the same at every school and yet they find it necessary to scale students based on the performance on the entire year level’s performance.
I was unfortunate enough to have attended a public school that got average results in VCE. My 2 major beefs with my ENTER were Spanish and Business Management.
Through out the year I had got A+ on all my work. When I got my results I was fuming when I saw that business management was scaled down so much. I had received a raw score of 42 and it was scaled down to 36.5. WTF!? I know business management gets scaled down but as if scale me down that much especially when I’m in the 40’s! To make things worst, when I got to uni I made friends with a mate from Balwyn High and Wesley College (Glen Waverly). Both of them got raw scores of 41 and 42 and one got scaled down 0.5 and 1 respectively. What reasoning does the VCAA have behind that!!!!?
Spanish was just as worst. I blitzed my oral and written exam. I got a raw score of 38.5. Spanish usually gets scaled up by 5-7. I got scaled to, wait for it, 39, an increase of 0.5…I spoke to 2 friends from different schools who had done Spanish, one got a 36 scaled to 42 and the other got 38 scaled to 43. How is that fair?
But in the end it was enough to get into my first preference. And when I look back at it, all that mattered was for me to get a good enough ENTER into my 1st choice. So the moral of the story is, don’t be disheartened if your marks for a subject weren’t as you hoped. Be happy with your ENTER if its good enough to get you into your 1st preference.
For those of you who fell short of the score you needed to get in to your first preference, remember that the score fluctuate from year to year and you can still get it in round one or through the fringe. If that fails, there are always options open for you guys to get in through TAFE after 2 terms or a year, so don’t panic, be positive and enjoy the 2 month break before you plunge into the dull yet laid back experience of tertiary or TAFE life! |
Yep, Public education for me. Sounds like your a local, I went to Camberwell High (mean= ENTER of 55... lol). Its was 38 raw and went up to 38.91 or something, regardless i cant help but feel robbed. It happens all the time at our school, not really a freak occurrence. The main problem is that teachers gear you up the whole of your VCE saying "if you get A+'s in your end of year exams your guaranteed of at minimum a 40 in that subject". Eg: Me and systems engineering (new course)
A+ A+ A+ = 43 (100% in folio) ???
Only subject i was happy with was Chem. On the midyear i got a C which could be put down to pure laziness. After i saw that result (that i sorta expected) it kicked me into gear and i studied before my end of year and ripped an A (SS of 35-scaled) so that was awesome.
Anyways i cant complain, I'm 12 ENTER points clear of my uni course's ENTER last year so i should be fine.

Congratulations to all who survived year 12. Just passing should be reward enough for that hell year.
I got great news today as I received my official honours acceptance letter. I pretty much knew I was getting in anyway, but this just makes it real. _________________

Got my uni results, failed both units, so I have to be there for another semester to do the same two (completely unrelated to my actual studies mind you) courses. I just want to be finished uni already, I'm getting sick of it.
Doesn't help that the day I got my results was the day you start getting fined for late re-enrolment, as if they're not receiving an assertively written letter in the mail about that one (I was expecting to pass and as a result, graduate, at the end of this semester, now that isn't the case).

Bump.
Just popping in to give the run down of what i actually got into. For the record I'm enrolling in the Bachelor of science at Monash University on tuesday. If you read back a few pages you'll see that I'm pretty close to exactly where i wanted and expected to be right now. To say I'm happy is somewhat of an understatement. Cant wait for next year, except for the travel and contact hours(24ish hours- gah!), it all looks great. So yeah, I cant thank the people around here that have helped me get where i am (especially Crest - if he is still around) enough, you guys have been a valuable resource of advise. So, now iv turned that page of my life, I guess its now my duty to give advice and guidance to the next PALGN Year 12.
Let me start by saying, suck a fat one, year 12 is gay and you'll hate it if you want to do well. Secondly and more importantly, good luck for next year.
Also i missed my pre-enrollment on account of being pretty hungover/ a weak bastard, i didn't miss too much did I?
Thanks again and HOW DID EVERYONE ELSE GO?

^ i was appealing to the rational demographic, not to some mindless 99.00 achieving freak. Good work on the score by the way, don't think i congratulated you on that one. freak. [/Major jealousy]
EDIT: Did you go to some sort of pre-enrollment, what did i miss?

Well, I've got to go get my Tax File No. on Monday (Unemployment ftw!), register my Deakin IT Student account sometime before Wednesday, go to Info Session on Wednesday, enroll before Thursday.
Why is it so damn complicated? _________________

Well I got pretty good *marks* but I lost a massive 23 points to scaling so I only ended up with an ENTER of 65.5 which is enough to get into my course.... which I did
information Technology-Computer Science/Software Development F/T at Deakin Burwood.
Should be pretty sweet! _________________

I hate Burwood. It's the only place that offers 3D Animation for an Elective in my Games Design Course at Waurn Ponds.
Oh, this'd be a good place to put it. A Nice happy HECS Question.
I'm going to probably do the Full Payment with HECS Discount, am I right in saying to get the discount you've got to pay 80% of the total to recieve the discount? _________________

Thats correct i think.
My $6,900 HECS fee turns into (0.8 X $6,900) $5520 when i pay upfront. Thats a discount of 20%. So yes, you only pay 80% of the HECS fee if thats what you mean.

I'm sure you'll get the position you're looking for, employers seem to have a tendency to call when you least expect it.
Congratulations to Palgn class of 07, we're a great bunch aren't we? I am enrolled to do Mining Engineering at Adelaide Uni...show me the money!
