|
|
|
|
Today PALGN has gone live with a reporting system. Every single post on PALGN now has a little exclamation mark next to it on the very right post. By pressing this button and typing in a "report reason" you can report a post which will be viewable to moderators, staff and administrators.
So, if you have a problem with a post rather than have to PM a moderator you can just report a post, it basically makes everyone on the forum a mini moderator, which is fantastic.
Please don't abuse the system, for the time being every user can report posts but if the system is abused we reserve the right to $poon fine the user.
EDIT: A HUGE thanks must go to Tom for his hard work in coding this, it works brilliantly, so thanks Tom!

Its a great idea.
Its good to help the mods out. Less work for them.
And more power for us. _________________

Mods and admins need to do work when posts are reported, so please don't test it.. it's there not to be abused.

I think it'd be a good idea to clarify what kind of posts you can report, otherwise I can see the system getting misused rather quickly. _________________

It sounds like an affective tool in concept, for example, if post #22986 has 5 complaints against it, it would be prioritised to the top of the list, as opposed to posts that have just 1 complaint.

Posts that break the rules should be reported, anything that the moderators should be alerted of. The full list of PALGN's rules can be found here.

I think that the general idea is that users can identify posts that they think are in need of moderation, so the reason could be largely subjective. You might think that someone is being overly hostile and attacking another member, someone else might think it was fine and peachy - just for example.
Like most good things though it should be used in moderation
(sorry, there are no excuses for that...)
Edit: Of course, the most use it'll get will be from cut/dry cases - like talk of piracy and the like. _________________

Awesome, now I can report people that advertise and give then a neg for it. (Instead of just giving the neg)
Thanks Tom.
EDIT: The look of the exclamation point reminds me of....

^ you don't need to neg them as well. the score doesn't remain when/if the post is deleted.
and they can't get less than zero $poons for a given post, so all in all it's pretty redundant.
but i guess if it makes you feel better, go for it! _________________

Hehe, it kinda does make me feel better since there wasn't anything I could really do without the need to PM a mod. _________________

I hope it doesn't get abused as this would mean a lot more work to the hard working staff on PALGN!!! _________________

Perhaps you should disable the ability to report your own posts, before Bitchacho spams your inboxes.

No, been around a lot longer than Bindeez, and they are more like beads, we have some lying around which tempts me to make one of these.
What would the other side (that I can't see) look like? _________________

I can see this being misused, not intentionally, but I can see you getting a buttload of reports over people who forum members have a grudge against and as a result villify(sp?) every post they create. I already see it all the time with the voting system so I can't see this being any different. I hope it works though, for your sake.

At the end of the day the ultimate power still lies with the mods. This is more a system of 'poking' the mods and letting them know about something.
All depends though on how much poking mods can take, though I hear a few of them live to be poked. _________________

Don't poke the mods! Didn't Poke the Bunny teach you anything?!
Besides, there are better ways of getting our attention... I hear beer words a treat, as does cash, conflict diamonds, your first born child, hotdogs, and kittens/puppies. _________________

Nothing wrong with being poked, especially if it's in the right spot...
*ahem*
Thanks Tom for the system
