I signed my own death wish the other day, I'm doing Adv English, Adv Math + Extension 1, Physics, Chemistry, Economics and 1 unit Religion for the next two years. And being the lazy lump that I am, I can just see myself in two years posting in this thread that I've started studying for my HSC exams the weekend before icon_sad.gif

It's not so bad, I did Adv Eng, Adv Math + Ext 1, Physics, Chemistry, Software Design and Development, Design and Technology for Year 11, then decided (stupidly of me to do so though), to drop to standard English and drop D&T completely, and the workload throughout the year wasn't too bad, but then I'm probably starting to compare it to Uni work...

Anyway to uni work, nearly finished icon_biggrin.gif

20/26cp for the semester is done, Japanese = fail sadly (didn't have time to put enough study into it, so I just failed by a couple of marks icon_sad.gif), whilst for my major time hog, the 12cp subject, with 9 group members, we got an average mark of 86.8 icon_biggrin.gif

Yep, it happens to the best of us.

Ironically, I finish exams on Friday and alas I'm on PALGN killing precious time. I've already had Methods Exam 1 and have Exam 2 on Monday. Chem Is on Thursday and Systems Engineering is on Friday. I Diddnt study or do any practice papers for Methods as its gay as aids, and iv abandoned it so its one of my 10% contributers to my ENTER.

Not looking forward to chem, its going to be hard but iv put quite a bit of study in it as i didn't do quite as well in the midyear as i would have liked. I'm not too worried about systems becasue iv already secured a 100% in both my folio that contributes 50%, and my SAC's that contributes 20% of the subjects study score.

The wait is made even harder by the fact that the day I finish; Foxtel IQ is installed at home, we pick up the new LCD, I'm buying Assassins Creed and COD4 and we will go shopping (looking - no purchase) around for possibly my new Macbook!

Did i mention i also finish exams on that day?

Well I've decided to bump this topic now that it's only 2 days until us kids in Victoria get our results.

All I can say is EEP!!!!!!!

I feel fairly confident about most of my exams and I only need to get 28 raw in my subjects to make an 80 ENTER, which is all I need so it's all I'm aiming for, but I just feel like there is this huge thing sitting on my shoulders and pushing on my stomach making me feel all sick and nervous.

Is anyone else feeling the same way?

Oooo, good luck then icon_smile.gif I know I'm from NSW so I don't know the VIC system. If its helps, don't think about it too much, you can't change the past and you can't predict the future. Just take it easy for now and don't stress out about it. Keep thinking you did all you can icon_smile.gif

I didn't know my results was out (finished 2 years ago) until I got an sms that showed me my result, and I was like
*wakes up from bed*
*looks at the sms*
"ooooo...."
*shrugs*
*play video games*
but I guess everyone will be different. I avoid getting nervous. I didn't think I had enough to get into what I wanted to get into at that time (B Comp Sci, which I did get in, but barely) but then I really didn't let it worry too much as what's done was done.

COMPUTER SCIENCE!

I'm trying to get into the same thing, although mine comes under the title, Bachelor of Science with a double major in Computer Science and Photonics.

I'm not too worried because all I need is 90. To get this all I need is ~30 in each subject, taking into account my results from last year. Even so, I keep having nightmares about doing really badly in English.

I feel really bad for one of my besties. She's incredibly gifted (we all think she's going to get 99.95) however she still doesn't know which course to do because she doesn't have a passion for anything. At the moment she's tossing up between law and medicine - two incredibly different disciplines. Imagine still not knowing what you wanted to do at this late stage.

Wow, i feel really sorry for her. icon_rolleyes.gif

And it may seem unnatural to you that people dont know what they want to do at "this late stage" but in reality we are very young. Id go as far to say that the majority of people out there dont know what they want to do yet they may have even invested their life in a full time career. Remember; it is estimated that people of our generation will change their career up to 7 times during their lifetime, its our thirst for knowledge and instant gratification that separates us from out parents generation.

Freswood/ vervain have you ever come across the ENTER score calculator? Its basically a program where you place the subject and your estimated RAW and it deduces the scaling (based off last years mark ups/downs) and calculates your ENTER. Its a loose estimation as it involves the markups/downs of last years courses but its still informative none the less.

You can get it here:
http://bryn.humberstone.id.au/computer/index.php
ENTER score calculator (version 1.2)

So results on Monday, good luck guys hope you get what you want/need remember its not the end of the world if your results dont meet your expectations.

Unless things have changed, I would have thought that you would need more than 30 in each subject to get an ENTER (TER? whatever the Hell it's called these days) of 90. Unless you're doing a lot of subjects that get a decent boost. I know Methods at 30 gives close to 40 (possibly over, it's been a while, or that could be Specialist). Oh, and another point, again unless things have changed in the past few years, year 11 means absolutely **** all towards your final score. In victoria at least, HECS is different (poor New South Walesians (didn't wanted to say Welshmen because that's sexist, woo!)) but from what I remember VCE was all about Year 12, effectively making the years before it mean nothing.

Anyhoo, there's my little rant, feel free to disregard everything I've said if they've gone and changed things on us again.

Methods usually scales up 3-4, you're thinking of Specialist Maths, add 10-11 onto your raw for that one.

I did two 3/4s last year, and did pretty well in each of them. So going by what I got in those two, I don't need to go nearly as well this year.

@Klawrence: that ENTER calculator is great - wish I knew about it earlier!

Actually last year methods went up by 6 and they bumped up the difficulty alot this year ( I know from doing yr 12 methods last year and this year ).

Yeah I've been on that site to check out what I'd need which why I said I'd need about 28 raw in my subjects to get an 80 ENTER.

Plus, last year's study score of IPM got scaled down by 4 Goddamn points. >_<!

Here is my complaint:

QUT is an awful university, they have gotten rid of their humanities faculty completely. I study Sociology and they have been telling me that I will still be able to finish my degree. However i just received an email saying that three of my subjects chosen for next year have been canceled. I am not going to put up with this crap anymore and now I have to go through the hassle of changing to UQ. This is not good for me as I will probably be increasing my time at uni by 6 months to a year at worst.

I hate QUT now, they don't seem to want to be a uni anymore, more like a glorified TAFE.

Thats my rant.

Well done to everyone on their VCE ENTER scores! Hopefully its enough for all of you to get into your first preferences. My cousin got his results today (98.5 freak) and he's wrapped about it. Prob reward him by buying him mario galaxy.

Klawrence wrote:

so... f*** you VCAA!

VCAA are a bunch of dogs. You getting a study score of 38 (is that raw or scaled?) might have to do with the school you go to. Do you go to a public school and one that I guess doesn’t produce a large amount of students who get 90+. If that’s the case they dodged you off based on the fact you came from an average school as opposed to going to a school that has a large no of students who get 90+ and all do good.

That’s why I think the VCAA’s system is flawed. We all do the same curriculum, do the same SAC’s, study the same books, we get graded the same or at least about the same at every school and yet they find it necessary to scale students based on the performance on the entire year level’s performance.

I was unfortunate enough to have attended a public school that got average results in VCE. My 2 major beefs with my ENTER were Spanish and Business Management.

Through out the year I had got A+ on all my work. When I got my results I was fuming when I saw that business management was scaled down so much. I had received a raw score of 42 and it was scaled down to 36.5. WTF!? I know business management gets scaled down but as if scale me down that much especially when I’m in the 40’s! To make things worst, when I got to uni I made friends with a mate from Balwyn High and Wesley College (Glen Waverly). Both of them got raw scores of 41 and 42 and one got scaled down 0.5 and 1 respectively. What reasoning does the VCAA have behind that!!!!?

Spanish was just as worst. I blitzed my oral and written exam. I got a raw score of 38.5. Spanish usually gets scaled up by 5-7. I got scaled to, wait for it, 39, an increase of 0.5…I spoke to 2 friends from different schools who had done Spanish, one got a 36 scaled to 42 and the other got 38 scaled to 43. How is that fair?

But in the end it was enough to get into my first preference. And when I look back at it, all that mattered was for me to get a good enough ENTER into my 1st choice. So the moral of the story is, don’t be disheartened if your marks for a subject weren’t as you hoped. Be happy with your ENTER if its good enough to get you into your 1st preference.

For those of you who fell short of the score you needed to get in to your first preference, remember that the score fluctuate from year to year and you can still get it in round one or through the fringe. If that fails, there are always options open for you guys to get in through TAFE after 2 terms or a year, so don’t panic, be positive and enjoy the 2 month break before you plunge into the dull yet laid back experience of tertiary or TAFE life!

Well I was just going off the marks mine got scaled by (been 3 years since my alumni year). Iirc, Methods in my year was easy as poo - I'm not surprised they made it harder.

Bad luck on the English Exam, Eyce - it's a killer. That exam alone screwed over a few of my friends when it came to their TER.

To anyone who didn't do as well as they had hoped:

It's not the end of the world. Seriously, it's not.

A mate of mine bombed his VCE but made it all up in his University years. Now he's doing fine and we're laughing about how pointless it all was all these years later.

All it takes is one decent year at Uni/TAFE and you can easily transfer to whatever course you wanted in the first place, with exemptions to boot.

VCE only matters in the year you take it. As soon as you enter uni, it means f**kall. So chill out and don't get worried. The future can be much brighter than you may think icon_wink.gif

Can't reinforce this point enough - if your university entrance score doesn't get you into the course you want, go and get the subject list for that course and just enroll in either an arts degree or something that allows you to take the same subjects, and you can transfer over at the end of the year if your results are good enough without having to start again. Even fairly specialized degrees like physio, med, vet, etc will take general science and maths subjects in your first year so you will be well on your way. Most degree programs (at least when I went though) have a required list of subjects, a flexible list of subjects (ie. you need 28 credit points of maths, but you can choose which ones), and electives. If you can take the required subjects with your alternate degree, at least make sure you can take electives from your preferred choice, so the credit points will count towards your degree. As usual, check with your uni/faculty office and find out what you'll need to do to transfer.

Had a couple of friends who wanted to get into IT with me when I went through, but their OP scores were too low, so they enrolled in business management and the picked the right subjects so they basically were able to transfer straight into second year IT without penalty - and did a bunch of extra economics and accounting subjects instead of the psychology and philosophy stuff the base IT degree had.
