So I know this game isn't out here yet, but that's what sites like DVD Crave (that's where I got mine) and Play Asia are for, lol.
Who is playing this? I am up to Chapter 4 and I am really liking it so far. The story is pretty good considering the more upbeat and shallow nature of the game but I do have some little issues with the battle system.
My main problem would be that its nigh on impossible to select units when they're inside a mass of other units... that is to say, you can't really direct everyone to attack a certain enemy or heal a certain ally if they are covered with your people. The second problem is that Level 3 Espers which are supremely powerful, are so big that they get stuck behind your allies and become utterly useless...
Well anyway, people playing this - thoughts? _________________

Hmmm... I'm also up to chapter 4, and really enjoying it (when I get to play).
I haven't had any issues with selecting units. I constantly use the X button to select all units to attack specific enemies, and Y to select individual groups. Sometimes it's hard to heal when you don't know where a certain ally is amongst the crowd, so I usually just select the leader from the top menu to find their position, then cure everyone around that area... lol.
The missions are great because even if you fail, you get some experience, and can just keep starting over. Hah

The graphics are okay but not really comparable to something like Phantom Hourglass. The levels are 3D and they are pretty cool looking but the sprites are 2D (or very low res 3D, im not sure) and when the camera zooms in on them they look a bit horrid. But when you can have so many units on screen at once it makes sense that it would be this way.
The sound is pretty good. Expectable magic/attack sounds, lol. It has that fuzz all DS games seem to have but the music is top notch, a lot of remixed FFXII songs in there.
The FMVs are purdy, although rare. And there is no voiced dialogue in this game which is a shame, but I'll survive >_>
Up to Chapter 6 of 10 now, been playing this all night. Apparently this is the hardest chapter. Eek. _________________

I only just started on the game, but it's pretty good so far. As far as RTS games go, it's better than Heroes of Mana, but doesn't have the cool 'drag the stylus around the units you want to select' feature.
Selecting units is still pretty easy though. I like how you can drag over multiple group tabs to select multiple groups, and the X button selecting everyone is handy too.
The levels are surprisingly detailed, and I think the sprites for characters work better than polygons (Rune Factory showed me how indecipherable 3D polygons can be to a character model on a low-res screen). Like Heroes of Mana, it plays a bit slow (compared the the relative speed of FFXII) and it's hard to order an attack on an enemy in the middle of a crowd of units, but these aren't the biggest of problems. The tunes from FFXII returning is a great addition too.
So far, best example of an RTS I've played on the DS, not that it has a hell of a lot of competition. _________________

I'm really liking this one, I'm up to chapter 7 and some of the battles are fairly hard now which is nice. The sprites are well animated but so incredibly low-resolution that it's hard to tell, I wish they had at least made the main characters more detailed.
I mostly use X to tell the whole group to attack an enemy, then tap the tabs to order certain groups to do different things, mostly using their non-gambited specials. Speaking of which, calling them gambits is a bit rich, it's just an auto-cast of one spell, not even the limited options available in FF12.
Overall it's better than I thought, and better than heroes of mana (I didn't like the circle-select in that one at all, tabs is better) _________________ Playing: 30sec Hero, Scribblenauts, Dungeon Crawl

Yeah this is an awesome game, I've done a couple of hours in the game now and I'm up to Chapter 3 at The Kinse Rise. I've heard alot of people complaining about the game because the battle system isn't Turn Based but to be honest I love it how it is now, its like a strategy version of Final Fantasy and it feels awesome to play and watch.
The presentation of this game is what really caught my eyes straight away though. The opening cinematic is very cool and all the menus are presented very well, along with some very cool in-game cinematics and camera work.
Most certainly would advise every Final Fantasy fan with a DS should get this game. _________________

People wonder why Square Enix consistently pump out spin-off after spin-off and, quite frankly, you guys are part of this problem.
What is more saddening is that this game was a proposed brand new strategy game for Matsuno before he got the shaft for not being capitalist enough within the ranks of S-E.

When the spinoffs/rehashes are of a good quality, such as this, then there is no problem. See also: Crisis Core, FFIV DS.
I'm less than 20hrs into FFXII -- would owning this ruin the story/benefit from finishing the original?

I am up to the middle of Chapter 6 and thus far I have seen no real spoilers for the first game. The opening scenes might ruin the drama of about two minutes of FFXII's ending, but chances are you already did that just by watching trailers.
The characters from XII are there, but they make only vague references such as "this reminds me of the war" etc.
EDIT: Well I beat the game. It gets very, very hard in Chapter 9 and 10. Also, there is a secret ending if you get 100%, and it's easy to get 100% but beware all the enemies in the final boss fight will jump from like level 60 to level 99 if you do... _________________
