I don't like this game.

I LOVE IT!!!

The graphics are the best I've seen from Wii, the music is magical and the boss fights are just amazing. I love the first galaxy's music the best as well as the second boss fight. It's really cool.

I'm keeping my comments to a minimum due to possible spoilers.

@ LeonJ: I got them to price match Big W for $76.84. No questions asked, despite the catelouge not being in effect until tommorow. icon_smile.gif

That's good mate. I'm glad old stinky EB price matched. I think they have been told from head office to just do it without question nowadays cause in the past it used to be a pain in the butt.

Yes I agree. The game is amazing and I've only played it for 3 hours. I cannot believe how much charm and love has gone into this game. I have LOL a few times just in the way some things happen. Controlling Mario is awesome and I found myself running in circles again just like Mario 64. It's oozes with class and just pure quality.

They don't make games like this anymore. Well, er, now they do.

/me drools for a similar score for the next Zelda title.

Got my copy from lame as shit Burn at their retail store earlier today around lunch time. Been playing for several hours, 41 stars in, and can safely say it's the best game that's been shat out of the industry in the last 10 years - if not more.

Going off topic a little here but; I never actually have any trouble with my local EB Games. They always price match without question (even at the Wii midnight launch!) and they are usually friendly when I walk in. They've had a few staff changes this year though, some of people I haven't been entirely fond of. They currently have two women and one guy working there. They seem nice, and one of the women even came up to me to help me locate Lumines Plus - it was behind a advertisment poster thing, I didn't see it at first. I'm happy with the service they've given me in the past, and I have to say I can't think of a single bad experiance.

I can understand, and feel, for other people's bad experiances though.

The beautiful hard cover guide I received along with the spot varnished poster has a production value that makes me wonder how JB are pulling off such a deal. I usually hit gamefaqs if I'm well and truly stumped, but this is lush!

*Smells book.

mmmmmmm.

Do I really have to wait all day before I can play?

If the guide is that nice I might just have to go out of my way and head to JB instead of doing an EB price match. Now I'm kind of glad that my mate didn't end up getting to EBs last night to buy copies icon_wink.gif

Back from Kmart who didn't have their copies in yet and EB* who wouldn't price match. icon_sad.gif

Unless I can get my brother to get one on his way home from work, I'm going to be sitting here gameless untill tomorrow afternoon.

*The staff are friendly and helpfull, but are tight arses about pricematching. I don't buy from their very often and I'd very much like the staff to be rude grumpy people and lax on price matching.

Got it this morning from Big W (though sounds like maybe I should have gone the extra $3 and got the guide with it at JB), played up to the 4th star.

And really, its just..... wow. No game has made this giddy in a long long time. I love it. I love it I love it I love it.

Yeah that's the kind of treatment I'm used to. I think you must have a good EB Joseph. Because normally EB try and make me feel like an arsehole for price matching, jump up and down, slap down the 'has to be near us and in stock' and call them up making you 15 minutes.

However these days I just say, look it may not be in stock at the other store but I'll just bloody bring in back in a day or two when it is in stock and use the 7 day return policy and then go buy it from them. They normally fold and price match then.

My local EB (Ingle Farm) is new, and I get a balance of good treatment and wanky "oh you can't price match because its not in stock blah blah blah" treatment depending on who serves me. The two young guys are fine, will talk to me, price match easily, even comment on how much I'm ripping them off by using Wii Play in the trade in deals, but the older guy, from what I've seen, is the typical EB bullshit dude.

Out of curiousity, which EB are you talking about, Joseph?

Anyhoo, back to Galaxy.

Dammit, that guide sounds pretty nice. I went into JB yesterday to put down a preorder so I could grab the book but they were already selling the game. I missed out icon_sad.gif

They were handing out the fancy game guide for preorders only right? Is it worth shelling out extra bucks for?

Anyway, spent some time with the game last night. Was that an epic intro or what? icon_lol.gif

At first the graphical downgrade was jarring, but I guess coming off of playing Assassin's Creed would do that to anything. But as I kept playing, the game started to look better and better, to the point were I'm now extremely impressed with how the game looks, even on a big screen.

And plays beautifully. It took some time, but the mindbending gameplay just clicks after a while. I soon found myself jumping and shooting and spinning like I'd been doing it all my life.

And the soundtrack. Oh man, it is fantastic. I've only heard about 4 themes so far and I'm surprisingly as eager to hear more of the score as I am to explore more galaxies. It's that good.

Oh and I can't believe I'm actually playing my Wii again. Who'd have thunk with all this next gen goodness out that I'd fall back onto the little console that could.

@ Capoeira: Yeah, the beginning looks a bit off for some reason (mainly in the cutscenes) but afterwards it looks drop dead sexy.

@ dancesinunderwear: I go to the EB at West Lakes, it's fairly new, opened up when they did the renovations to the mall a couple of years ago. And now that a JB Hi Fi has opened up, it's really easy for me to get a good deal on games without traveling to the city. icon_smile.gif

While Mario's character model is a bit rough (jaggies around the edge when it's close up) the game runs at an awesome framerate and is JUST full of colour and awesome design. It's very very smooth. It's that's amazing considering how much is going on.

The comparison of Sunshine to Galaxy is insane. Galaxy makes Sunshine look dirty and slow. The water effects alone (and Sunshine as all about water) outshine (teehee) Suneshine.

I'm a visual whore and I have zero problems with this game.

Just got my preorder from JB Hifi... OMG at the quality of the guide. I've never seen a guide of this quality before. I was impressed with the Metroid one, but this one... wow. On the back of the collectors guide it has a RRP of $29.99 US. If you still have the opportunity to get the guide (and don't own the game) - then get it.

Now to wait until work is over... icon_sad.gif

I just got the game a few hours ago from EB - price matched from Big W; although the kid behind the counter gave me an Evil Eye sharp enough to cut cheese, and his voice was dripping in annoyance and spite. But screw him, cos I'm the one with game and $20 in hand!

I've never played Mario 64, so I never got to experience the childish giddiness that others describe from their first encounter with the game.
I've only played for an hour, but if the rest of the game is anything near those initial moments, I very much look forward to spending many more with Mario et al. I had a big goofy smile plastered across my face the entire time. My head was tilting left, right and upside-down as I moved Mario across the training planet. I literally squeed when I saw Mario in the Bee costume.
I have a feeling that this is the feeling that many had when they picked up Mario 64. This is probably the most fun I've had with a video game in a long time, and it looks to be more than a one night stand (if we must carry on with this 'relationship' analogy). I look forward to settling down with SMG and I expect the two of us to have many magical nights ahead...*

*turns lights down*

...after my contractual commitments with my employer, that is (lousy capitalism - damn you Karl Marx!)

*before SMG finds me cheating with another game, resulting in a messy and expensive divorce where I lose all custodial rights to the children, but I get to keep the dog, car, cutlery and china (but not Tibet).

Got my copy earlier today and am 3 stars in. Such a good game, we've been waiting so long for the next big Mario game, and Nintendo have really hit a home run with this one. This is the reason to get a Wii.

Scrav: I know what you mean about the guide, it's the best one I've ever seen! Totally worth the extra money at JB. icon_smile.gif

döppelganger: Nice pics, helps illustrate just how good this guide is.

Only got my hands on a copy of Mario Galaxy a few hours ago and have played it for around an hour and a half. It's extremely good so far. Everything blends together so well, the music, art direction, gameplay and pacing. I haven't had a chance to look inside the guide yet but it looks mighty impressive.

My only real gripe with the game so is the lack of voice acting. I know some people prefer to have the squeaks and muffles from the characters but I really would have liked to have seen some voice acting.
