Note that only the first deus ex is referred to being the greatest, the second was rather 'meh', hopefully they don't go further down the 'meh' road that many other games seem to travel these days.

Dude, rather 'meh' is an understatement. DX 2 was horrid.

I pray to the gaming Gods that this is a worthy sequal, but until I play it I will assume this will be at least a 'meh'.

i quite liked DX2, but that's possibly because at the time i hadn't played the original DX (i tracked it down after playing through DX2 and played through that too).

my only issue with the DX series were the endings.

they both had this awesome factional structure that meant if you did a job for one group, you'd lose reputation with 2-3 other groups, so the game had great replayability.
until the end that is.

i hated the way (and this is in both games, not just DX2) you could wipe out one faction's base, only to come across the head/ambassador of that faction at the end who would tell you how they want the final act to go down, and you could finish their way.

i can see that from the POV of a busy gamer, it's good to be able to only have to replay the last 10 minutes of a game to see all 4 endings, but it just didn't make any sense.

(and if you though DX2 was bad, i'd advise you to get Project: Snowblind, which is some spinoff or something of the DX Franchise. by god was that game bad.)

The first Deus Ex was one of the greatest gaming experiences I ever had. The sequel was a huge disappointment for me, it didn't invoke nearly the same feelings that the first game did.

But who knows, maybe Deus Ex 3 will return the series to it's roots..

I really liked the 2nd one. It wasn't as free form as the first, but the story was really good and it kept me playing till the finish, something most games fail to do nowadays.

It didn't help that when it was released most peoples PCs couldn't run it very well, but on a decent PC, it was great.

Quit a lot of people gave it good reviews too:

It wasn't fantastic, but I wouldn't call it bad.

However, having said that the first game is still my all-time favourite PC game. I'd love to see it re-done in the Unreal 3 engine with update cover & fire combat like Rainbow Six.

It looks like I'm the only person here who enjoyed playing through Deus Ex: Invisible War. But, then again, when it comes to developing sequels and having that pressure of "raising the bar," it can all become too much.

"Deus Ex is one of our best franchises"

Really, Mr Marketing Man? Then why did you close down Ion Storm and distance yourself as far away from it when creating Dues Ex Clan Wars?

Anyway, Deus Ex, up there with HALO and HL2 as one fo the best games of all time, DX2, more of the same, still OK. I'll be keepng my eye on this.
