Gamespot have a graphical comparison between Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy. Quite surprised that the games are very much alike in terms of the amount of detail on the characters/levels etc but the scope in Galaxy seems to be much bigger, although the one thing Sunshine does better is the water I think.
http://au.gamespot.com/features/6182581/index.html?tag=topslot;title;2&om_act=convert&om_clk=topslot
One thing they did mention which got me all excited (cuz i'd forgotten about it) was how polised the shines/stars are in each. Man even in Mario 64 collecting these were the highlights of the games imo....mainly because you worked so hard to get to where they were and also because once you got there....there it was....no silly treasure chest to open or anything just the shine/star sparkling in all it's glory! I remember it was so awesome I used to leave Mario standing there for a bit just basking in it's light! Can't wait to do that again.. _________________

Nice, and as if I didn't have enough gaming to do before the 29th before Galaxy stops it all, my cousin brang around Sunshine and left it here just before. MP3 will have to wait a few weeks for some lovin' .
Hopefully I'll get the time to finish Sunshine in these next 2 weeks of hectic schoolwork, then finish Galaxy a few times in a row, then get back to MP3 by the new year . _________________

Galaxy in a word: Awesome. I had a few goes at the game at eGames and it truly is the spiritual sequel to Mario 64, Mario Sunshine just looks a bit weird in comparison. it's platforming at it' finest, and on such a big scale, it's really a sight to see. The graphics are a small step up from Sunshine from what I've seen, with Mario looking a little more high-res. The stars have really been reworked though, unlike the sharp pointed ones of Mario 64, they're all smooth and beautiful.
Is it the 29th yet? _________________

YAYYYY!! Mario Galaxy has beaten Ocarina of Time on Gamerankings! I think Ocarina of Time is a good game but it doesn't come anywhere near the best for me. Personally i'd put either Mario 64 or Resident Evil 4 as the best....but that's because I haven't played Galaxy yet.
This is awesome news and further proof Galaxy will nab game of the year. _________________

I think it's pretty hard to get into the top 5 these days. Too many sites have dumb reviews ala that review pro-sony site that was floating around a while ago. The critera for posting a review score to gamerankings is X reviews. I think it should be based around a sample of quality. _________________ Shin J Leon.

The lowest review score I can find for Galaxy is a 9/10. That's the lowest. I think the real culprit here are reviewers that don't adopt a "/100 score disguised as a /10 score by way of decimal point". Hardly unfair. _________________

Yea I agree with that heaps actually. If scoring out of a 10 use the decimal points system but otherwise it should be scored out of 100. The worst is scoring out of 5 like the sh!tness of Gamespy and Gamepro. _________________

I like metacritic how it has a 'universal acclaim' rating. Ie if a game doesnt' recieve a rating less then 8 it gets a badge of honour. I think that's a great system.
Yeah the score out of 5 is rough but it's the way they do things. I'd like to see Mario Galaxy retake #1. _________________ Shin J Leon.

^ yeah same, i was quite surprised that OoT retook the first place...
How many more reviewers are there though that have yet to review the greatness of Mario Galaxy?
I'd say it deserves that spot, although OoT does also, its been there 9 years, time to step down buddy _________________

Apologies for the double post (after 3 days of no activity in this topic), but i saw my first Australian Super Mario Galaxy ad this morning, during weekend Sunrise, and the great game is coming on Thursday
Just wondering:
- has everyone pre-ordered? (from where & how much)
- gonna buy on the day? (ditto)
- already purchased from USA/UK? (price & from where, impressions maybe?)
- price match? (from where & how much)
etc.
Cause i've pre-ordered from JB, at $79 with the game guide, pretty good deal.
Just curious as to how everyone else is going around it...
Soo can't wait till Thursday, after an interview/small presentation on Monday, big presentation on Wednesday (and end of TAFE course), and holidays coming up, i will be sooo ready for this game! _________________

^yup pre-ordered from JB aswell, its a pretty sweet deal. Hyping this game for so long, and playing demo at eGames just made it better. After been slightly dissapointed by AC i know SMG wont.

I preordered today from EB. I've got 4 copies of Wii Play sitting at home but I couldn't be bothered dragging my parentals down to the shops so I could trade them in. I'll just price-match Big W when I go to pick it up instead and use the Wii Plays on something else. _________________

I think I've already said this, but meh.
I've pre-ordered at EB and will price match JB Hi-Fi unless another store has it cheaper. I don't trust my local JB because they seem to get their shipments late. I was in there a week after Super Paper Mario released and some guy wanted it. The clerk said they didn't recieve their shipment yet and he would have to wait until tommorrow. I never saw MP3 on their shelf until the Saturday after its release as well.
I'm looking forward to this game, I only know minimal stuff about the story and gameplay so there should be many surprises. Mind you, a certain games site posted up stuff without marking it spoiler so there are two major things that are spoiled for me, but I'll live. _________________

My brother is preordering a copy of Mario Galaxy tommorow from JB. The deal is too good to resist and we were pleased with the Metriod Prime 3 guide.
Mario Galaxy is one of my most anticipated games of the year. Looking at the scores on the review aggreator sites it seems to be doing exceptionally well.
Kotaku has made a fake cover of Mario Galaxy using a beautiful wallpaper from the Japanese Mario Galaxy website. In my opinion, it looks better then the current art. Have a look here. _________________

Don't think I'll preorder. Stores only push for preorders for the corporates to know that the sales will go through. Ever tried canceling a preorder at EB and asking yourself why it's such a tedious exercise?
Hoping to walk into local JB's on Thurs morning and them have it there, really don't want to step into EB and have to fork $30 extra with minimal effort. I just want to buy the game, not drag a fucking brochure around for a price-matching scheme.

Impressions after 8-10 hours with the game.
I have completed about 40 or so stars, and am having a LOT of fun. The gameplay is so close to perfect its rediculous, and so much FUN.
I cant beleive how good it looks in progressive scan, widescreen. This is easily the best looking mario game ever, so much color and life its just gorgeous. Plays like mario 64 in fully upside down topsy turvy 3D madness, gravity insanity.
The music also is amazing, especially in DPLII theres so many classic themes in there remixed and new ones, and some cool tricks done with the music and gameplay.
The camera is the best mario camera yet, simple and effective, a quick snap to button works well in 90% of situations, sometimes it can get confusing being upside down and sideways.... though all in all awesome.
Technically this has my vote for game of the year. Its the most perfect and fun experience I have had and I own all three consoles and all major releases. Mass Effect is the only game that comes close to GOTY other than this, and thats for totally different reasons such that they cant be compared. On a technical level though, this is it for me.
GOTY easily. Get excited Nintendo fans. _________________

So you've managed to buy a copy in an Australian store allready then redemption? Any one else hear of the street date being broken? I'm not in the greatest rush to play this game, as I've barely touched Prime3 and still re-playing AC, but would still snap it up early aslong as it's not $99.95 _________________
