Such a good game but so flawed.
I just played what I reckon will be my last game of CoD4 multi-player. I've had it on throughout the day and every time I have played I have had one or two yellow bars and everytime I play I see myself shoot the guys, and then I watch the kill cam and no bullets even come out of my weapon.
If I go to knife him I watch it, and the the kill cam has me not even taking out a knife.
That is a very serious problem.
I just played four games in a row and I managed around 2 kills per game with around 14 deaths. Now anyone who has played me at Halo will know that I'm not that bad a player.
It's actually unplayable for me and not enjoyable and I think I'll take the game back this week.
I've had no real problems at all with Halo3 except some guys cheating use a thing called by-standing.
On occasionan it's been laggy but nothing like CoD4.
I have a kill ratio on Halo 3 of around 1 death to 1.22 kills
On CoD4 I'm averaging 1 death to 0.2 kills.
That's a HUGE fucking difference.
The problem is that Halo 3's MP engine seems to take lag/latency into consideration and I've never realised just how good a job they did, until I started playing CoD4 online. CoD4 doesn't take any of it into consideration in the slightest. I'm shooting at people and they don't get hurt. I'm sniping and the system isn't picking up my rounds hitting them because they have moved. Most of my kills have been me judgeing where they WILL be rather than where they are.
It's a nightmare and it won't let me look for a good connection ie people in Aus. Instead it keeps just dropping me in with people from the US.
So be warned! _________________ Smoother than the cream in a twinkie...

Yeah, I've played games where I've unloaded a whole clip into them, while they just run at me and stab me, then in the kill cam it shows me shooting about 2m to their right.
But there are good Aussie games. You could invite friends in with you and start a game that way, then if Americans join you just boot them and wait till an Aussie gets thrown in. Or look in your recent player's list and find an Aussie and join his game. Then this will put more Aussie's in your recent player's list so you have more of a selection for next time.
Or you could just get a faster connection.

I have a 24mps connection.
And latency has nothing to do with connection really. It's the distance the packets have to travel from the host...and if the host is in the US then no matter what you will have problems.
I'm originally fro the UK so most of my online mates are there but if you want to add me my gamertag is:

Happy I've gone with the PC version as it offers a proper server browser where you can sort by ping etc.
During the X360 beta I would join games, check my ping, if it wasn't green I'd disconnect and try again till I got into an Aussie game, which was about 30% of the time. On the PC version there are some minor issues with timing out while joining a game, though most of this can be expected to be patched out. May as well cross your fingers and hope the same will be done to the console versions.
As for experience versus Halo, I find CoD4 much easier to play and a lot more rewarding in multiplayer. Have no real issues winning games in it at all. _________________

Well I have no idea why you ain't having problems.
I'm one or two yellow bars every game and stunned at my kill ration because I know I'm much better than that...plus you get so angry when you see yourself kill someone and you even see their death animation only for you to die and watch their killcam _________________ Smoother than the cream in a twinkie...

Yeah, this was frustrating me last night as well. I wish there was an option for "best connection" like in Halo. It pains me to see a problem like this show up to hurt what is otherwise a fantastic game.
Phelan, I might add you, as not only is my friends list pathetic, but I do like the idea of inviting Aussie friends for lag free gaming _________________

When I get a bad connection I know exactly what you mean but most of the time it seems like i'm playing on american servers and even then my connection is really good. I don't really know the reasons for this but i'm on telstra cable which is about 1.5mbps download.
Best thing is to make a game and invite some friends from the same regions. _________________

Hm I thought they would have fixed this after the beta...
Now I'm a little sceptical about getting it on the 360, as sometimes it'd take upwards of half an hour to find an Aussie hosted game... _________________

I also played it over at a mate's house and he was capped and it ran perfect. Also later went home played from my account with him playing from his and it still ran perfectly. _________________

The lag isn't a problem when playing Aussie to Aussie connection but it doesn't have good coding to allow you to play against people from the US or UK.
And when the matchmaking system is pretty poor then you end up in a lot of games with US/Uk people and they are mostly always hosting _________________ Smoother than the cream in a twinkie...

It also depends on who's hosting. If the American's are hosting, yet they have an awesome connection, you can still get 4/5 green bars. It's just if they have average connections that you'll start to lag out.

Kurupt, you sure that's correct? I thought that latency is due to the time it takes for packets to get from host A to host B... so both parties could have awesome speeds, but if there is a bottleneck in between (say, the pacific ocean), then there will almost always be lag. I could be wrong though :-/
I guess we all just go to Ugh's place for our CoD4 fix _________________

Ping is dependant on both geographical position, distance from exchanges, speed caps, and traffic.
Even if a Brit has a 100MBps connection, it still has to go all the way around the world to get to you, and even at the speed of light this takes time.
Generally for me, I find Australia and New Zealand to be <100ms, West Coast US to be around 170-200, East Coast US at about 200-250, and Europe to be 300-350ms. _________________

It can be real annoying in American games. It should have an option to search only Australian games..
But when you get in a Aussie game the game is so much fun. Best game out on 360. I will spend atleast 100 hours in the multiplayer on this just as i did on COD2. Infinity Ward know how to make games thats for sure.
Once all the bugs are ironed out it will be a flawless game.

I've played with Americans and still gotten 4/5 green bars, and I have 256/64. You just have to hope the host has an above average connection, which for them, is around the 70mb/s mark.

How do you know it was hosted by an American? It's pretty much impossible to get a good ping from overseas. _________________

Yea all the games I played over the weekend (which is like around 100) they ran almost flawlessly everytime and yes everytime we did the 'matchmaking' option. I was just saying at one point me and another mate went around matchmaking and we were still getting awesome connections and yes a majority of these were on American servers. Also on top of that we tried it at a different mates place (PC and Xbox 360 version) and those ran perfectly. So we tried the game on 3 different connections and we were doing the matchmaking option and every single time we were connecting within' seconds and almost always the connection was awesome.....and like I said one of those connections we played on was capped.
So I honestly don't think it's a problem of the games or else we would've noticed atleast a couple of times the scenarios that are being discussed here. One of my mates is Zarnoss the other is Retronerd but they can both confirm it if you don't believe me. _________________

Well every game I played I had one or two yellow bars and everyone else had green.
I have a 24,000/1000 connection
And the last broadband test I did netted me 22,876kps _________________ Smoother than the cream in a twinkie...

i don't mean to be pedantic, but perhaps Ugh's definition is "almost flawless" is similar to your (Phelan) definition of rubbish.
i mean, it's physically impossible to get better than 250-300ms ping to a US host given that the distance and speed of light (data transfer speed) is finite, so perhaps that's it? _________________

Possibly, but I'm also basing it on my games of Halo 3 where even when playing against those in the US and UK I have green bars and virtually no lag.
Maybe I'm holding CoD4 up to the standards of Halo 3 and it simply does not live up to the way their online system is set up.
I guess my poing is that in Halo 3 I have had hardly any problems when it comes to killing people, but that it is very noticable in this, and that it devalues my enjoyment of the game by causing me immense frustration.
I've been playing games for nearly 30 years now and this is the most frustrated I have ever been with a game, because I am enjoying it but it won't let me when it teams me up with Americans. _________________ Smoother than the cream in a twinkie...

You can really notice the lag when playing on a US hosted game when you see the replay of when/how you die.
You're screaming at the TV after unloading a clip on them only to see the replay which has you shooting where the person was a second ago rather than where they were. _________________
