Hey guys. Just wanted to let you know that I just got the PAL version of RE. Its great. IT HAS 60HZ Options and seems fully optimised in 50hz as well ! WOOHOO> Oh my gawd no borders hehe!

Anyways I was in EB near my work on Wednesday and they said they had it but couldnt break the streetdate of Friday, But the place across from it another small games shop said they would let me have it on Thursday nite (shopping night). So after work today I went and picked it up. I was sooo excited the first must have game for the gamecube since well ever. I havent been this excited since Zelda TOOT. Cant wait for Mario Sunshine!! In less than 3 weeks.

So yeah havent played much thru it yet. But yeah the grafix are awesome and the FMV is sweet.

I LOVE YOU CAPCOM no Dodgy PAL Conversion this time ala Devil May CrY!!!

Anyways I will be heading deeper into it on the weekend.

YEAH FOR MY GAMECUBE. NOT THIS MUCH LOVING SINCE SMASH BROS>

The only thing I have noticed that tarnishes it is the same jerking motion on the cinematics that plagued the NTSC versions as well. So that kinda sucks but its not as Bad as some people say. Anyways the EYE CANDY sure makes up 4 it 8)

Anyways yeah its gr8 that there is no borders.

The cover is pretty shite though it does the job and no cheezy zombie strangling. I wish they had had the Japanese cover. OH SO STYLISH...

WET Jimmy I kinda agree the control feels a bit dated. But I think they kept it in to keep true to the original and Type C is pretty cool.

And yeah it is awkward and doesnt make for fluid control compared with Mario 64, but I think it is implemented to keep you on edge, to introduce a level of tension say to keep the atmosphere of a horror game.

I think i read somewhere that the developers wanted to simulate the real life reaction to terror/horror that if faced with the situation we would most likely freak out and not know what to do. Being that the controls dont make logical sense and aren't free flowing when we are scared we tend to stress out and even make the controls worser.
As well as that I am sure that the controls grow on you. Just got to get past the initial learning curve.

Or they just didnt want it to be too easy icon_smile.gif

Wet Jimmy, if you honestly think that, then you haven't played the Gamecube version of RE.

Control-C is manageable. It's not the best control scheme in the world, but it works.

The graphics so far aren't extremely eye-popping in my opinion, for the simple fact that cameras are stationary. That makes the game instantly 10 times scarier because you never know what's around the next corner, so it's a good tradeoff.

The sound is... too scary for it's own good. icon_shifty.gif Sometimes, the music becomes so intense that I turn it off completely. icon_neutral.gif

Now, most importantly is the scare factor. I give it 50 out of 10. icon_razz.gif

When I pulled the plug in the bathroom... well... lets just say I nearly threw up. I have a weak stomach ( icon_neutral.gif ), so Resident Evil is the first survival horror game I've played. Period. And I love it. icon_smile.gif

Go and get it people! Sure, it's $109.95, but it's worth it! icon_mrgreen.gif

Yuck. The game LOOKS good, but it is so SLOOOOOOW and the fact that it has exactly the same awkward control scheme as the POS version is inexcuseable. Graphics alon won't save this one. I'm sure it will sell in the millions just because of the hype, but the game itself? Rubbish.

RE is a definite dissapointment. Hopefully if rumours are true, the next one will have a revised control scheme, and maybe then it will be a game worth playing.

Well from what I've read ...RE:Zero pretty much has the same controls as RE. The old point 'n run. Resident Evil 4 is the only real chance of something different. Thats a while off though (RE ZERO NTSC comes out in a month me thinks???).

But I think you're being a bit harsh... And I'm not sure if someone who bought Batman, Crash Bandicoot** and Spiderman for Xbox AND claims to enjoy them - should really be telling kiddies not to get Resident Evil (a far superior piece of software in all respects).

**Yes I know Crash was for the wife....

1st off Wet Pants, I did buy RE after all ($79 at an EB so I can take it back if I dont rate it). Thats right. Despite my initial impressions I brought the baby home.

Now Ive never really played Resident Evil. I spent about an hour with it back in '97 and thats about it. Recently I had devil May Cry for the PS2. That I did not like at all, though for an unoptimised piece of shit it did look pretty good. But I digress....

For a 6 year old game RE holds up pretty well. I actually jumped with fright at one point which doesnt happen very often (last time I did that was when I noticed a decent texture in Luigi';s Mansion -that was a shock!!). Yes the controls are awkward (config C, as someone has already pointed out, is definately the way to go). But they have made a few tweaks. And yes the game is slow. But its meant to be.

The only thing that I see no reason for is the 'opening door sequences'. Sure it may be needed for loading time, though I doubt it -they could easily load on the fly me thinks (if the PS2 could do it for GTA3 then...). A homage to its PSX roots?? Where the damn door took 2 minutes to open!!! Gotta love it! Anyway...

Graphics? At first I wasnt blown away. Then I started to notice the details.... WOW. Very Nice results. Techinically not the most impressive console game (that would go to Halo), but for all its damn cheatin, non 3D prerendered ways, RE GameCube looks amazing. And the real time lighting and effects....friggin nice.

Will I keep it? Not sure. I'm tempted. RE is a classic. Its nice to have it in a collection, especially looking this amazing. Id be tempted to get Mario 64 and Zelda OOT if they ever remade those with spiffy graphics (though I wouldnt be paying RRP $109 for them). Even without a nostalgic sense of gaming history RE GameCube is a solid purchase. Its a better 'remake' than WR: Blue Storm anyway (ie WRBS just makes me want to play the original while RE GameCube makes me want to play RE GameCube) and its got better textures than Luigi's mansion (though no vaccuum).

yeah, I'll probably keep it. Might get rid of Rogue Squadron 2 instead....

Coming up to November Id say mario Sunshine is THE GameCube game to own, SSBM is right behind. Then Id name a few that would include Resdent Evil, SMB and maybe Pikmin.
Eternal darkness has been getting really mixed reviews (see gamerankings.com). Turok will suck.... Star Fox Adventures??? Who knows. Hope Metroid still ships this year, but with no PAL release date set... I wouldnt count on it.

Super Monkey Ball 2 WHERE ARE YOU!!!!!!!

Well Ive decided to keep RESIDENT EVIL.

Highly recommended

Cons: controls (really not as bad as some of you might think)
loading door screens
inventory system and the old 'magic chests'
pauses it cut scenes
(but who cares -I dont play games for cutscenes)

PROS: Incredible Graphics
Great Sound
Solid gameplay that still works after 6 years.

Basically the good things about the game easily outweigh the small problems with it. Happy to own it

(Note: DO NOT pay RRP $109. Most places have RE for $99. EB and Harvey Norman (Moor Park Sydney stores only) are selling it for $79 (due to a 20% off bitch fight between the two stores).

I have nothing to say on Resident Evil. Well, actually, after all these positives, I might even go and rent it. Still not my kind of thing though.

But, I would like to welcome craptest back to PALGN.

Yeah I have been waiting to play this game for so long! I only played a very small amount of the original (up to the crushing room part) so this is basically a completely new experience for me. Even if it was a rehash with better graphics I wouldn't mind either since I didn't play that much of the original.

The opening cutscene absolutely rocks. The first person parts they show makes me want to play a RE game in 1st person perspective (I think Code Veronica allowed you to after you finished it).

Anyway I'm loving the game so far. The people that complain about the controls kind of annoy me. They suit the game and if you use the Type C controls theres rarely a problem. If it had full analogue like Mario 64 or any other platformer it would make the game arguably more difficult. Usually you just want to walk when your exploring new areas and run when you want to go through the same area you've already explored. So the controls seem to work overall.

I've had a few scares. The lighting is really awesome in some parts. Really eerie. Those crimson head zombies are complete pricks..

A new EB just opened in the same complex as a big Harvey Norman. Harvey Norman has 20% off.... probably to irritate the new EB. It's been like that for about 2 weeks now.

Isn't there a code to unlock a panda suit in Onimusha on PS2? Maybe there's something similar on RE...

Friggin' sharks got me!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep. this game is great.

I must be a sick puppy also cause I find the controls well suited to this type of game. If/ when they change the controls, theyre going to need an AI overhaul. Otherwise dodging zombies will be way to easy.

Lovely visuals. The outside settings are ASStastic. Look at those bloody puddles. Look at 'em!!

Very nice water effects. When you find yourself in the shark tank be sure to fire off a few rounds. r you doing it now?? How cool is that. Best bullet thru H2O graphics eva.

I think I'll be buying all the Resident Evil games coming to the cube. Pity PAL wont be getting RE0 till 2003. Mmmmm.... Maybe Wet Jimmy has been wise enough to preorder RE0 at DVDboxoffice. September 29 big guy!!
